Always thought Austin Aries is better than CM Punk. This guy is a fantastic wrestler and should've been a big draw for WWE.

The problem is, just like CM Punk, the ego of Aries always got in the way.

Agreed. The problem was that The Old Man saw him only as a cruiserweight, and wouldn't even put the CW title on him for some reason. His matches with Neville for it were great, though. He left WWE because he was being constantly disrepected and he had called them out on it. He knew his worth and he wouldn't allow anyone to disrespect him. Guys like that, it's said that "they have a bad attitude" or that "they're difficult to work with". That's such bullshit. Aries was a ROH and TNA/Impact world champion and WWE wouldn't even put their CW title on him, much less a midcard title like the IC or US ones. Hell, he never even got to compete on the regular main roster, he was stuck on the 205 Live one. And that was an absolute travesty. I'm glad he left WWE, they didn't know what they had with him, FFS!

Aries is without a doubt one of the best wrestlers of the last 20 years. Always loved his work, still seek out matches of his I haven't seen before on a regular basis.

in the most heterosexual way possible (and sometimes not throwing caution to the wind and saying F-IT) i fell in love w/ Aries during his 2004 ROH work run from Generation Next to Final Battle (and beyond w/the Personal Jesus motif)
it still saddens and frustrates me a bit that he never went further in WWE and didnt get his Wrestlemania Main Event time in the spotlight that Punk and Danielson have each had
and while the prestige of WWE has been wavering for a time (and im not dismissing his impressive "belt collector" days everywhere else in the world), i still feel like he was robbed of that achievement
like it was a no brainer he was gonna have that time in his career
and people can shit all over his attitude and professionalism and difficulty to work with (as well as any number of controversial moments, AHEM) the way Cornette does any and every chance he gets, im still a proud A Double mark through and through
    tl;dr ❤👍

I hope to one day see Aries on Joe Rogan, Zuby, Russell Brand, Jimmy Dore, or any one of those podcasts. He has so much in common with Russell Brand, even the whole veganism thing, I think they'd become good friends if they ever met.
I'm 33 and have been a wrestling fan for the past 28 years. I hate to say it, but wrestling fans aren't exactly the most free-thinking or open-minded group I've ever come across. Most are insanely tribal, which is actually a good thing for the wrestling product itself because it makes it easier to get them to love or hate a certain wrestler, and it makes it easier for the booker to read audiences and know which direction to take the company. However, that same tribalism does not lend itself well when dealing with people who think outside the box.

Now I can understand why his career never popped, he's a bad person and still is.

Aries: Hopefully we can be kind, have understanding, and be less judgmental.
A Freed Dolphin: Wow, what a terrible person!
What a strange reaction to have to this interview.
