      Sad to think that you need an old man to laugh to bring joy into your own life. He is just but a fellow human being no different from you .

      I feel genuine happiness too when I hear his laugh. I had the privilege to see His Holiness in Toronto a few years back, the atmosphere was "odd" . I can't describe the feeling in that arena- not clever like Russell Brand. I imagine many of the audience weren't Buddhist, I am not Tibetan but try to follow Tibetan Buddhism! Shop too much- the man next to me asked me, politely if I felt sort of unusual- and I nodded and we both just sat there as if waiting for SOME THING, we started to laugh, softly, embarrassed- His Holiness emphasized his "human-ness" , no faith healing, no magic conjuring etc! But there was a peculiar goosebumps, nice goosebumps vibe mixed in with the incense- never experienced anything like it! Wasn't the eager, adrenalin rush I got before a band I loved came on stage- not even my "idol" Leonard Cohen (RIP) and I saw him late in his career and nearly fainted...! Have you seen The Dalai Lama, are you a Buddhist, an old soul? An old soul, that is perhaps the best description for a Westerner- a fence sitter, regards, ghosts, GOD, reincarnation- one who is seeking the sound of one hand clapping- Namaste, Isabella, 7 yrs ago! I hope you are well, didn't get covid- I just received my 1st vaccination. Z.

    Einstein on Buddhism. "The religion of the future will be a cosmic religion. It should transcend personal God and avoid dogma and theology. Covering both the natural and the spiritual, it should be based on a religious sense arising from the experience of all things natural and spiritual as a meaningful unity. Buddhism answers this description. If there is any religion that could cope with modern scientific needs it would be Buddhism."

      Tsnafu No, he is not. He was a CIA stooge back in the 50s and 60s when he cooperated with it to arm Tibetan militias to depose Mao Zedong, killing 1 million people in the process. Even today, he is still an agent of US imperialism in China, not promoting Tibetan nationalism, but Tibetan expansionism, wanting to take 1/4th of all Chinese territory to integrate into Tibet. That's not even getting into his Zionist anti-Palestinian racism.

    • @cjlwhite1
      @cjlwhite1 7 лет назад +35

      Quq Balam. You're talking about something that happened over 60 years ago. Furthermore Dalai Lama promotes democracy now, and freedom, and wishes autonomy for Tibet. The Chinese Government has been oppressing Tibet from the start. Even now, they limited the amount of Tibetan scripture that can be read in their language. They limit the religions of their people, and oppress Buddhists, Christians, Muslims, and anyone who is not an athiest.
      Zionist? He isn't a Jew. Doesn't believe in anything even remotely Jewish. Wanting your own land for you and your people is not Zionism. Call it what you want but I call that preserving a culture.

Never has he ever claimed to be anything more then a simple monk and the only reason he fled his home was to protect his people. If all leaders thought of things in this manner (i know this example is not referring to something particularly large, but it's the point of view that counts) we'd have a significantly better world to leave to our children.

      I havnt meditated in years , so unfortunately I find it extremely difficult to understand what hes trying to say (in very bad english) .

    People disappoint me, he is not a god one earth, Buddhism has no god, the Dali lama is just the spiritual leader and teacher of Buddhism and is the ten carnation of Buddha, he is not a communist a-hole but a man that is full of love and peace and encourages people to be who they are. And those saying he is wrong and Buddhism needs a new leader, the Dali lama is conflicted wether or not the world needs him anymore and may not be reincarnated. Please before saying such negative thing about a man who I have had the chance to meet is a wonderful and kind man do some research before hand, before saying such negative things

      Long Live This Holiness the Dalai Lama! It is up to us to pray for this man and to protect him from people who want to bring him down. They are terribly misguided. But I believe that truth will win and he will come back as 15th Dalai Lama. China is trying to say that the next Dalai Lama will be born in China only. They are mean and want to hurt Tibetan Buddhists and HH. Please do not worry.

      technically he is the "incarnation" of a deity or principle called Avalokitesvara (bodhisattva of compassion), and the dalai lama ("ocean teacher") lineage which traces back to Tsong Kha Pa (13thcentury), not the historical Buddha (Siddhartha Gautama, ~5th-6thth century BCE)
      It should be emphasized that the position is a means to unite diverse schools (hence the term "ocean" signifying its universality), and trying to limit or trace reincarnational models in a simple 1-to-1 sort of way is almost certainly the wrong way to look at it. Think digital reproduction - Avalokisevara as software, reproducible ad infinitum. Shit, we are, after all, as George Lakoff and Mark Johnson have written, "metaphorical beings"

    • @meghan42
      @meghan42 10 лет назад +23

      Yes. Life is actually very simple. We only need to eat and sleep. Between these two points, we work. But "work" has been so complicated as we've made it so. All the complexity of our very complex 'economic systems', Whether capitalist or communist ...... neither system is natural. We are simply animals living on a very beautiful planet. It really is that simple.

    • @A-Milkdromeda-Laniakea-Hominid
      @A-Milkdromeda-Laniakea-Hominid 10 лет назад +5

      meghan42 It is and it isn't; that simple. Yes we are animals, but we will perish if we try to live as an animal. We have lost our body hair, we cannot tolerate raw meat (even uncooked veggies will give you an upset stomach if you grazed) and we have no claws to burrow shelters with.
      So the whole complex economic systems are in place to provide food shelter and clothing to large numbers of our population. It's the only way we could manage, until recently: the smart computer, married to hydraulic machines, could let us return to simple work. And the work would be whatever makes us happy; work for the sake of work, not work for survival. That's a truly beautiful concept!
      Now if we could just keep the population under control...

      Paulie Walnuts with all due respect, nobody is "just" a sex addict or a junkie... Everyone on the planet has something special to bring to the world, including the unfortunate souls who get lost on paths of addiction. It bothers me when I hear grossly over-simplified assumptions and generalizations about people who have made bad choices in their lives by other people who have also made bad choices.
      Think about the last bad choice you made... Did you have to pay for it everyday of your life from that point on!? Shaming those who have fallen into this trap is only adding to their suffering, not to mention, inhibiting the potential gifts the person being shamed may have to offer from ever manifesting out from under the immense shame and scrutiny of others. Society is essentially robbing itself of the potential gifts found in others through it's own hypocracy.
      Most of us learn at a young age that choosing to do drugs will lead us to undesirable places in our lives... But the problem doesn't stop there... There are reasons people make the choices they make, and I guarantee that most addicts didn't become addicted to drugs because they wanted to be junkies. As a society, we need to practice a bit of humility in realizing that a person's mistakes in life doesn't necessarily represent who that person is fundamentally... And perhaps if we approached them with compassion and a willingness to understand and help, we could help those who are lost find their true selves and thereby contribute their unique talents to the world instead of slowly withering away in the dark being shamed for mistakes they pay for daily and tragically never realizing their potential in what they could have offered this world. This concept goes back to the old saying "one who lives in a glass house should never throw stones."

    Dalai lama is loved for his relentless advocacy for peace and non violence, his equal love for all sentient beings, his warmth, his detachment from any human vices and not for being the most eloquent person, or being multi lingual. I can't understand how anyone dislikes it. Now he may across as self righteous or anything else to you, that could be a cultural gap or anything else, you need not get personal and vilify anyone for what you don't understand and is not customized to your liking. Half the people responding negatively are just getting carried away with such perception triggered by people who are really out there to vilify him for nothing and people who doesn't want religious harmony and has no tolerance to others

    tekobari You guys had a really interesting discussion there. I just think you should know that "Buddha" did not create or speak for Buddhism. Buddhism was created after him by his closest followers. He had nothing to do with it.

    • @tekobari
      @tekobari 10 лет назад

      I know; I was using shorthand there, and reading it again, see that I fucked up. Of course I was referring to his acts and words, not his actual development of the belief system. In fact, I believe that's true of most major religions. Certainly Jesus didn't found Christianity, nor Muhammad found Islam.
      Thanks so much for clarifying my statement and cleaning up my act. :)
      My Greek is so rusty, that if it were the floorboard on the driver's side, my foot would go right through it when I braked. But do I see "logos" or something close in Λόγια Σx? Or something near it? I'd love to know how it translates.

    • @go7070
      @go7070 10 лет назад

      tekobari Yeah I think it's the case with the major religions. I'm not quite sure if we're on the same page but what I'm basically saying is that Buddha was uncompromising about ideology. He would say experience but don't believe anything or cling to ideas and systems. He would emphasize formlessness. So, for instance, he may not kill animals and/or eat their meat but will not say "I am vegetarian/vegan" or look down on you for eating meat or living differently from him. The Buddha has no interest whatsoever in changing anyone ... he is entirely fulfilled in his own being and realizes that everyone can have that, and would love to share it but will not go out of his way to do so.
      It's nothing really, just making up for missing the discussion I guess lol (of which I have to say I learned plenty about the Dalai Lama)
      Can't say I know Greek myself but I'm deeply interested in it mostly coz I have studied philosophy extensively and took it as a minor. I love Classical Greece and Plato, Socrates, Parmenides, and Heraclitus to name a few. I also love language and linguistics in general, especially etymology. So, you know how some English words have a Greco-Latin origin, I have a fascination with that that I can't really explain lol. The name is Logia Ex (as in Logia Ex Machina).

    • @tekobari

      I was hoping it was Logia Ex, but was wary of posting it in case I was way off. Gorgeous name to take.
      Yes, I completely agree with what you said about Buddha's beliefs, particularly appropriate regarding what the disagreement before you arrived was about. A guy wrote that the Dalia Lama shouldn't be called Holiness, in part because he ate meat. That no Buddhist clergy is allowed to eat meat.
      The guy didn't grant that it was a basic form of address, such as the Honorable Justice or Senator; the Reverend Whomever, etc. That went nowhere fast so I skeddadled, then you arrived. Pleasure to meet you. I'll follow you if you don't mind.

    • @go7070
      @go7070 10 лет назад +1

      Thanks. The name is deeply inspired by Heraclitus' logos.
      lol the whole thing about the "holiness" was funny. IIRC a friend once talked about the Dalai Lama needing to eat meat for health reasons ... no idea whether this is legit or not: samvidbeauty.com/2013/02/a-lesson-from-the-dalai-lama-on-meat-eating/
      I don't mind, but I'd suggest adding me on FB instead. I may be mistaken but most of my RUclips comment are for lols. Hard to find a good discussion. Good to meet you too.
      What exactly is your interest in Buddhism? I'm really curious, coz I get the impression that you know more about it than the typical/religious Buddhist.

He is very precious to his people and from other world too.So,obviously he should be in a good and safe place like every other leader does.. People who don't know and just say it without knowing . Listen, He is vegetarian and he established various schools and homes for thousands n thousands of his children who escaped from Tibet and wants real education. They were given everything that parents should give..BUT NOT MEAT if anybody don't know.. And same for his monasteries..whoever think he is getting donations and having luxurious life . I know him how his life style is..I am proud of him. I wish him long long live.. Judge that however you want I just thought it was a little typical of world leaders to be so petty and misaligned. I also applaud Obama for doing what he wants regardless of international relations. Especially because there is so much anti-media against him.

      China does the intimidation technique to every country where Dalai Lama goes. Thankfully I'm yet to know of any who comply to the ridiculous threats. Though sometimes instead of "official" meetings they become "unofficial". Its a sad old broken record, China calling this sweet and funny wise old man the "wolf in sheeps clothing."

      Good lord darling. Go read and think some more before you open your mouth please. Nothing insightful, intelligent or enlightening just came from your keyboard. No clear sign of any sort of abstract thinking. Repeating bullshit.

      Hille T South Africa denied DL a visa to attend the Nobel Laureates convention this year. As a result, all the Nobel Laureates refused to attend and the meeting was cancelled.

    Why is everyone getting so pissy? No wonder there's so much misery in the world. So many carry it with them wherever they go. And SO much ignorance. Many enjoy the Dalai Lama for his wisdom, even those not of the faith or Buddhists. According to tradition, he is the re-incarnated Gautama Buddha of Siddhartha Gautama, a guru or the head teacher of all things wise. He may have been picked politically, by the Chinese govt, but he himself is not political. He is the enlightened one or the Bodhisattva, one whose sole focus is the other. Hinduism, Buddhism and Taoism is full of great insights into that which is primary or of greatest merit to the human condition. And it certainly is NOT contention, selfishness, foolishness, or indulgence in the material. Rather one is to look above the horizon to the eternities to that which is of greatest eternal import. Calling him, his holiness is only a title of honor, for God or gods do not play a major role in the Dalai Lama's ordinances and principles. You can look at them as more philosophies for life. I don't practice any of these religions but have found their philosophies over the years quite peaceful and insightful, running quite contrarily to the vile, malicious attitudes displayed on this post.
