Honestly Akutami made a mistake with Gojo that honestly....if you look at his overall story the way he died was so dull circle. He's even wearing the same exact outfit Toji was wearing when Gojo killed him. And it was the same exact hubris and mindset Toji had that lead to his death. But Gojo is so universally loved, and so over powered for most of the series that Akutami genuinely had no way around him. He had to literally seal Gojo off for most of the series only to bring him back and give us a definitive answer. If it was truly Yuji's series he had to kill Gojo somehow. And if he wanted to subvert expectations then he could have legit had Gojo win and make Yuji a protag that ended up being used and cast aside

Being honest, Mahoraga did ALOT of the carrying, if it wasn't for a longer story, Sukuna would have lost, but then the story would have been a bit short/being and new characters wouldn't get introduced so I still think Gojo's stronger. Just bc a character says another was holding back doesn't mean it's how it is, we've seen it many times during other animes. So good continuation of the story but in general, Gojo is stronger.

If gojo was fighting heiyan era sukuna then gojo would have died during domain battle. Go/jo won the domain battle against megumi sukuna because he damaged sukuna when gojo shrunk his domain and sukuna had to heal and that caused that 0.1 sec delay. If it was heiyan era sukuna then he can heal, attack and chant to increase his curse technique output all at the same time.
We saw after 5 domain expansions gojo collapsed but sukuna was ready for another domain.
Heiyan era sukuna is the perfect form for any sorcerer. It's very clearly mentioned.
