  • With my finish at Santee this was NOT how I wanted to roll out of Alabama. This first half of the season has been pressing. I plan to completely regear going into Sabine and start putting some fish in the boat.
I appreciate the support more than you guys know and the kind words are great to hear.

Your honesty, openness, transparency, and hard work will show up and pay off. You know what they say about paybacks, they're a mofo. What doesn't kill me, makes me stronger! Great things are coming!

On the upside, it’s a really compelling and humbling lesson for these young guys who are in their 20s, who wanna throw away a good trade or career or college education to chase the “dream” from a guy that’s won 2 major FLW tournaments. Anyone can go broke real fast in his business so I think it was a good lesson for a lot of people. Honestly, I think that all you guys that fish professionally are more equal in skills than different and except for four or five phenoms you’re better off going to Las Vegas casinos
    To bet your entry fee

I've fished the 3 lakes of the Lower Coosa River for over 40 years now. She can be a bear, post spawn. That's just one reason why so many hammers come from 'round these parts. Y'all were here during what is probably the absolute worst month for cranking. I said it three weeks ago, when they started hyping it up, and I'll say it again; y'all put entirely too much stock in the shad spawn here. This river is slam full of threadfin shad. They see 'em all the time, day in and day out. Fat girls like STEAK! Spots here are different, but heads here prefer meat to fish. By that, I mean frogs and crawfish; ducks and mice. Heads here would rather stay buried up in a grass mat and wait for some protein to drop in their face as opposed to chasing down those tiny snacks. Do you know how many white swimjigs they see in a month's time??? A hematoma beaver flipped on a 1oz tungsten will ALWAYS get 5 bites here. A small black or brown frog can be good in the clouds or rain, too. The rewards of hitting that tiny window of the shad spawn can be great, but the chances are slim. I recall several 50 fish days (largemouths) circa 1990, when all you needed was a pearl Swamp Frog and straight shank, 1/0 worm hook. Then, when we first started doing the "Coosa Shake", (with a ¼oz blk/blu jig & pearl- or brown jig & motoroil/orange feet Swamp Frog for a trailer) im '92, the swimjig was in it's infancy...and it was AWESOME. But, as my podna once said, "You know how we grew up on TX rigged worms? Well, these kids grew up on swimjigs; it's OVER." So true. Just a few things to keep in mind, in case y'all have to come back anytime soon. Oh yeah, you mentioned "some still hanging around docks". Believe it or not, May can be a killer month to just run docks with a ⅛oz grey minnow Roostertail, to mop up on postspawn, fry eaters. Those were 100 fish days...

Is it tougher to do well the second run through in the Elite Series? Is it kind of due to a devil may care attitude when you are young? Its hard to be nervous when you don’t really know where in the hell your at. Their is such a joy being naive! No expectations for the most part.
