Hansel and Gretel are the children of a poor woodcutter. Their stepmother convinces their father to abandon them in the forest. Hansel uses pebbles to create a trail and returns home with Gretel. However, when they are left in the forest again, Hansel tries to use breadcrumbs, but birds eat them. Lost in the forest, they find a house made of candy, owned by a witch who captures Hansel to fatten him up for eating. Gretel tricks the witch and pushes her into the oven, killing her. They take the witch's treasures and return home, where their father joyfully welcomes them, and they live happily ever after.
