The 7 basic emotions - Do you recognise all facial expressions?

- Surprise, Happiness, Anger, Disgust, Contempt, Sadness and Fear - these are the 7 human basic emotions, shown the complete same way all over the world.
Tis video is a fun approach to the topic of basic emotions, based on the concept of Dirk Eilert. As you will notice, the shown emotions are not 100% scientifically correct but do give you a hint about what the topic is all about.
We use this video as a first approch to emotionally intelligent leadership, basic emotion workshops or similar training topics.

Mark Zuckerberg watching this video like "ooooooh I see"
Then we all are Mark Zuckerberg

Happiness didn't feel happy, more embarrassed. Disgust didn''t wrinkle the nose, which is an involuntary respons for real disgust. So, these emotions are basically the emotions of bad acting..?
The problem with these actors seems to be that they don't actually get into the state of the feelings that they are supposed to express.
For example, if you are supposed to express disgust then you should vividly imagine yourself doing something really darn disgusting, so that it becomes a natural reaction and goes from acting to a real reaction.
You should TRULY FEEL that emotion, not just consciously express it.
Exactly
Ya, pretty much
True I actually read contempt again but knew the context. In a real life scenario this would be contempt. Also disgust here would be seen as a playful nose pull or some kind of tick.
Brother you may be feeling offended because you were not able to detect expression but idea here is that these are micro expression, people won't do it for 5 seconds specially to you.
Your surprise looked more like fear due to the tightness of the lips and the arching of the eyebrows.
Music is way too intense to pay attention to this video.
Dear peopwzerver15, thank you for your valuable feedback! It will be considered in further videos we produce and uplaod.
MDI Management Development International what kindve bot reply is that shit😂

Looks like a fairly typical professional polite reply to me.
In one of Indian ancient texts named Natyasastra by Bharatha Muni, he has defined nine basic emotions (navarasas) to be expressed as part of Indian classical dance forms. The nine emotions are Shringara (love/beauty), Hasya(laughter), Karuna (sorrow), Raudra (anger), Veera ( heroism/courage), Bhayanaka (terror/fear), Bibhatsya (disgust), Adbutha (surprise/wonder), and Shantha (peace or tranquility).
Matching faces to emotions was the section of my ASD test I scored the worst on. I was diagnosed with Aspergers. Watching this video now I unsurprisingly missed almost all of them.
I consider myself Asperger too but what the remedy , i am stuck i am surrounded by Narcissist mother and sister they want me to die that's it!
I am on the spectrum too and all of these expressions looked nothing like themselves to me. For me "disgust" was a sneeze, I didn't even see the emotion. Also, most of the time I think I may have taken it literally because I kept saying while watching this "these emotions are fake!" 🤣
Aye I'm on the spectrum too but I got full marks here. I'd say these were too easy. It's all about practice man.
How bad was the score I got 2/7 .😅 haven’t been diagnosed yet , although my mom is trying to get me tested for autism.
@@imagismusi thought disgust was anger 💀
I guessed anger 3 times. I'm just glad I got it right once.
Almost in every expression, the actresses seem like they are bout to smile at any time so it makes it harder to understand the emotion they are trying to portray.
I missed almost all of them.
That means you are a sychopath
Very cool didn’t ask
Um 😐 mayeb u need to get that checked out
How dumb are you
Prob had crappy neglecting parents
They actually look like they didn’t approve on doing this video they really dident like it 😂
I got all of them without pausing the video, but the 6 almost confused me with a suspicious expression, but I got the right answer in time :)
Hey i am an editor from Argentina, i want to use a few seconds from your video for one of my clips. Can i use it? Cheers
I have ASD with paranoid/avoidant traits, I got all of the correct, with different wording, but I mistook Fear as shocked. It's interesting.
I'm autistic and this video is 'easy' and got them all right too. Real life is much more difficult. Changes in facial expressions are much easier to read than a static face.
Shock came to mind for me too
I also mistook fear as shock..
anger is shown in a very unrecognisable way. I thought it is doubt. She didn't frown, she just squeezed her eyes, as if she didn't understand something
I had thought that it was pain
Omg i recognized all of them .. watching lie to me helped lol
I only did this to have a better understanding if I have autism, I always had issue’s understanding facial expression and i think this barely helped out, the faces didn’t make sense to me, they just look weird and goofy. I even mistaked disgust with anger
I got 4 right but only happiness, sadness, surprise, and fear. I’m in the process of an ASD diagnosis.
Amazing! Greetings from Peru
A very informative video for psychopaths. Especially emotion #7 must have gone right over their heads

6/7 got anger wrong
Ammmazing We really need those 1 min viedeo we dont have much time 😫❤
7/7 ... thanks Lightman :D
Something seems off about these...... I can recognize all emotions normally but I missed like EVERY ONE in this video.... can someone explain???
The expressions in this video are acted out pretty much on command, and it is quite tricky to perfectly mimic real-life expressions.
In my opinion, the best way to consciously mimic a certain expression is by vividly building up that actual emotion within you, so that it becomes a _real_ emotion, and this is actually what professional actors usually do when they act in movies.
Jack Nicholson did a lot of these things during the recording of "The Shining";
he would be a bit weird even during breaks (like laugh and giggle for himself), and he would mutter crazy words for himself and almost scare the production team when he prepared for some of his crazier scenes.
Got all them right !😁💪🏼
How do you do fellow humans?
I feel like I'm missing something?? Contempt, fear , anger and disgust really confused me
Lmao I said "confused??" For almost every one of them, only getting happy and sad right XD
My PE teacher showed me this this is such a amazing video!
Yay got all right. I'm getting better
7/7. Ok lightman, count me in. XD
Fantestic expression!!
Well based on these facial expressions I got three right.
I got 5. Contempt and disgust threw me way off lol
same
I mistook Contempt for Skepticism.
As someone with body dysmorphic disorder I got 2 out of 7. Very interesting. I called disgust and anger pooping lol
I got all right! 😁
Thanks for this now I will practice in the mirror so I look less awkward
I swear disgust looked off. It had a hint of some positive emotion like playfulness or joy
My autistic ass guessed angry on that one :(
1: didn't see any emotion. Only saw a weird and random facial change.
2: weird face scrunch. Once again, saw no emotion, just a random face change.
3, lip twitch, still saw no emotion.
4, I'm assuming a smile is happiness. But the woman doesn't express the emotion long enough for me to see anything. Plus her eyes are dead. I can't see any change.
5, this one was very easy. Sad.
6: strange eye movement. Too brief to distinguish anything.
7: didn't see any change
I'd recommend expressing the emotion longer. You do it so fast.
Should've hired actors for this. Some emotions definitely lack the eye and forehead movement.
Sad and happy are what I got lol. I mean smiling and frowning are always in kids books so that's easy.
Why did i get 2 of them wrong,
I was taught in psych 101 that disgust is a learned reaction. However, that was so long ago that I may have misunderstood. Maybe it's the stimuli that we learn to feel disgusted by.
Why facial expressions of primary emotions are easily identified?
huh, i thought alot of them where disagreement with something that was being said. and I thought anger was squinting because you cant see something.
i got 7/7
It very hard to tell be simply these guys are good at showing emotions except fear and happiness which everyone knows how to do it .....no offense
I am here because I am healing my trauma of shame
okay call me lightman :)
Weird I thought I am good at reading people but these short moments of reading her face was not easy for me. Happiness and the next one I guessed. But all emotions have been to fast and weird looking?!
Guessed 3 out of 7 correctly.
#GOTCHA !
5/7 contempt and fear throw me off
I got 3
I got only the fear one
Think they mixed up anger and disgust
Miss the sigma one
Startled, disgusted,puzzled,happy,quizzical,angry,scared,

makes me give a complicated answer
Almost no one do this faces in real life, except children. Like, imagine you talking with your friend and they tell you they are sad. They will not look like they are in cartoon and their lips looks like reversed smile.
Im autistic, btw, and in my childhood i studied microexpressions using anime. And, surprisingly, thats a way more reliable source of how people could look like while beeing emotional. Way more reliable than this vid and others like it.
I only got "happy" pol
Good
I got 5 emotion correct out of 7 emotion
Disgust looked like feigned disgust appearing cute
I have to say that The faces for Disgust and Anger could of been a little better lol
i only got happy and sad lmao
What's the lady in White doing especially in 6th emotion, more of a Constipated look
For Anger the Eyebrows need to come closer n form a bit of wrinkle between the eye area besides being slightly tight...squinting eyes alone doesn't work
i got all 7 right
6 Out of 7
Fear looked like she was stressed.
these expressions were too quick for me
Slow it down if you watch it
Some of these emotions were not performed very authentically!
🤔 what was that? Was fun anyway 🤓🤓🤓
For contempt I said “ehh” as an emotion lol but other than that yeah I’m good
I thought the surprise was anger. Oh well.
4...
It's hard to fabricate these emotions on command, eh?
Disgust, anger, and fear were poorly done.
I got 3 😀
The Seven Basic Emotions that were ACTUALLY shown in this video
Emotion 1:
" I am reading a cue card right now and it says I am supposed to be showing an expression of surprise. Oh."
Emotion 2:
"I am reading a cue card right now but the handwriting is terrible and I can barely make it out."
Emotion 3:
"I am reading a cue card right now and this is really boring and I'm kinda hungry. I think I could go for a steak."
Emotion 4:
"I work in customer service and I am THIS close to losing my mind but I need the money which is why I have taught myself to smile on command."
Emotion 5:
"I work in the service industry and I am THIS close to losing my mind but I need the money which is why I'm pretending to care about your very tedious and boring story while I actually got like twelve other tables to serve because we are understaffed because our corporate overlords find lining their own pockets more important than paying people what they are owed"
Emotion 6:
"I still can't read this damn cue card. I am getting paid for this right? Because I really need the money and my actual job pay is shit"
Emotion 7:
"I once took a drama class in high school. I am getting paid for this right?"
I got all, thanks to udemy
Dude I'm REALLY bad at this lol. Am I mental?
No it's probably because it's too fast and has no context. I got some of them wrong too lol
You may be on the spectrum.
Nah, got 1 / 7 lol
I guessed all
1/7 identified fear😂
What about Faith, anxiety, confidence, and etc?
Music was quite annoying, and maybe don't speed up the people doing the emotions. I thought anger was suspicion.
I thought it was confusion
This was... weird (kinda) they showed the emotion for only like a split second
It's called a micro-expression for a reason lol
I got 1..
7/7.
I did very well orphanage
6/7
Only 5 emotions not 7 emotions
Am I bad at this or she is?
Did they go out of their way to find two people with incredibly unexpressive faces or something? Seriously
this one emotions are not even true misleading
2/7 ):
Faked emotions are much more difficult than real emotions.
The only way to show a truly genuine emotion is to _actually feel_ that emotion _for real._ This is actually what professional actors do - they get into a state where they genuinely feel the desired emotions.
٣/٧
