CIII was launched in 1974 as CKGN-TV; the original plan for the station was to create a superstation in Southern Ontario and eventually build out the station to the rest of the country. As a result, their news coverage featured content from across the province and also featured a second studio in Ottawa. However, over the years, CIII's focus shifted increasingly towards on Toronto. By 2009, the station had rebranded as "Global Toronto" and relocated their city of license from Paris to Toronto.

Wow, it's crazy how much better Global's news offerings used to be back in the day - actual sets, investment in more reporters/anchors (i.e. Sports) and way better graphics (for their time). Today its virtual, low quality sets, low quality journalists and bare bones graphics.

Global just has virtual/green screen sets these days at least ctv and cp24 and citytv has actual sets
