======= Rorke's Drift LYRICS =======
News that came that morning told that the main force had been slain
Chance for peace and justice gone and all talks had been in vain
A prince had been offended and he has gone the path of war
Now that 1500 men are dead and the zulu’s at the door
Zulus attack,
Fight back to back
Show them no mercy and
Fire at will
Kill or be killed
Facing, awaiting
A hostile spear, a new frontier, the end is near
There´s no surrender
The lines must hold, their story told, Rorke’s Drift controlled
Later on that fateful day as they head towards the drift
Stacking boxes, fortify, preparations must be swift
Spears and shields of oxen hide facing uniforms and guns
As the rifles fire, echoes higher, (beating) like the sound of drums
1879, when a few held the line
Back to back, attack, the dead are stacked
Where a last stand was made, and the empire saved
Back to back, attack, the dead are stacked

That day the British learned to not underestimate the bravery and the capability of the Zulus. While simultaneously the Zulus learned to not underestimate the discipline of the British.
Honestly one of history’s most successful military stands. A true example when discipline was greater than numbers. And to think that earlier on that same morning miles away, the British Empire was dealt it’s most humiliating defeat at the hands of an indigenous enemy. Despite being outnumbered 15 to 1, the British at Rorkes Drift lost only 17 men when compared to hundreds of Zulu casualties. That day in the year of 1879, both sides were humbled and learned to not underestimate one another.
The Zulu salute was invented for the film, but nonetheless it was an example of chivalry and the heart of a true warrior from both armies.
Islandhlwana was actually the worlds greatest defeat by an indigenous force, not just in British history.

One Victoria Cross was awarded to a Corporal Friedrich Schiess, who claimed he was from South Africa. I am a big fan of history. I was a member of my school's History club, asked to join by the history teacher as she'd seen how much I devoured our textbook and actually checked the bibliography of it and went to find those books. I was the sponsor of it as a senior, and introduced the club to the entire school trying to get members. I wish Sabaton had been around, and the internet, so I could have played this to hook them and possibly overfill the club room. I could see our teacher using this music to get us thinking to get us digging into stuff. She showed movies in the club and we talked about what they did not get right, and what they did. We found out the small stories that are hidden in the bigger ones, and dug into the vast piles of data. We learned how to research history, and we loved it. So I know quite well that she'd have bought the albums and played them for us. And ignored the complaints about the other clubs who met on that hall because... history!! Oh Sabaton, what a gift you are to those of us who love history, for you bring so many more to share our love for the tapestry of stories. Thank you for your music.

The "offended" king went to war because the British High Commissioner, contrary to his instructions from London, had demanded that the king turn over people who he didn't have, disband his army, and pay a massive fine for things he hadn't done. To be sure, the king had been, at the very least, not taking enough action to prevent some of his subjects from entering British territory and murdering people, but there had only been a few of those incidents and he was willing to hand over those people to face justice.
