I'm Greek. I think high-trust society is a feature of northern European cultures. We southern Europeans are great at backstabbing. We don't trust each other and we also tend to engage in civil conflicts more than the northerners, as is evident by history. Southern Europeans also have strong matriarchical tendencies.

South Europeans also tend to be more multicultural, as opposed to the relatively homogenous north Europeans.

@@TheTdw2000 True. I also think southerners, particularily Italians and Greeks, evolved culturally so much, they did a full circle and finally regressed. This explains why, for example, southern Italy is so less developed than northern Italy . Southern Europeans are now legacy people, their value lies only in what they offered in the past. The Greeks passed into obscurity with the fall of Constantinople and the Italians declined with the end of the Renaissance. The same could be said about the Spaniards once their colonial empire collapsed in the 19th century.
