it's amazing how they need to be cleaned up out of the box, but at least you got it sounding great. Hobby Radio Nerd did an out of the box on a Ranger TRE-797 and the same thing it was terrible from the factory.
Nice radio! Factory quality control still lacking. No surprise there. Gotta love the sound of a properly tuned Connex. I had a speaker that size in a 1960's transistor radio. Yeah, it did not have an amp, nor was it pushing 200 watts, but you cannot get the Yankees games on a Connex. 😂 Smilin', I'm off the key. 😑🦗

Most of the time, after you convert it to 40 channels, they all need cleaned no matter the brand
