These women were absolutely beautiful back in them days💛💛💅🏾
😮😢
*those days (and yes, they were) 😊
I don't believe "the casting couch" is metaphorical. That really happened and still does. My daughter tried to get into Hollywood and told me all about it.
just because something is used as a metaphor doesn’t mean it can’t be true. I wouldn’t look at this video for anything that resembles the correct use of grammar, pronunciation, or the adept use of language devices. in fact, things are so strangely pronounced. I think it must be some sort of computer..
Marion Davies was far from a tragic heroine. Read her book "The Times We Had," written long after Hearst's death, in which she describes amazing hi-jinks on their art history tours in Europe, fabulous parties at her beach house in Santa Monica, and playing a part in the tangled politics of the time. She drank too much but she sure enjoyed it. Unlike the babe in Citizen Kane, she had huge talent. She said the movie didn't bother her, as it had nothing to do with them. She was no victim, and she was never dependent on Hearst. She always made her own money.
Elizabeth Short is the saddest
The big tragedy imo, is through time and yes the' Citizen Kane' film, Marion Davies is only remembered as Wiliam Hearsts mistress instead of the talented smart women she was in real life
Marion Davies was enormously talented and no portrayal of her has ever been able to do her justice. She was a very savvy and smart businesswoman, she was a very talented actress, a consummate comedienne and her memory has been tainted by the harmful association with the talentless character in Citizen Kane for 80 years and counting. Orson Welles himself said on several outlets the character was a fiction and was in no way a portrait of the real life Marion, who he knew very well himself. In her own words, she was basically living a fairy tale during her years with Hearst and, in her way, loved him. She did unfortunately had an alcohol abuse problem, exacerbated by the constant partying and proved to be her undoing after Hearst's death and was basically left out in the cold by his vengeful family
Agreed 💯
I read they left her shares to the company, but she gave them back.
She sold a good portion of her jewelry to raise money to help his failing newspaper syndicate during the Great Depression.
I enjoy hearing about early hollywood.
I love learning about the older actresses.
Some of these I never heard of.
SHE WAS A YOUTHFUL 21,.HE
WAS A.MATURE 55".(HE LOOKED.75 WHEN THEY MET)
EW.
Your video was so interesting. Thank you!
Peg's story is so heartbreaking 🥀
Peg Entwhistle's looks reminds me of Anne Heche, also a talented actress who met a tragic end.
Can we bring back pencil eyebrows. Lol. Todays eyebrows are just getting crazy !! 😂😂. The women are all so beautiful. Such sad ends.
I really enjoy your channel but what’s up with showing the Iran hostage situation newspaper headlines from 1979 while talking about a murder in the 1930s?
Rita's life was so awful that in some ways, I feel like Alzheimer's was almost a blessing.
I have never thought of her life that way, but you know you might be right.
I agree. Very tragic life. Rita said men went to bed with Gilda and woke with Rita.
My Aunt worked at Palm Springs Spa when she would come in with her caregiver. Everyone thought she 😢 was a drunk. They did not consider Alzheimers
What a horrible thing to say!!!a familymember of ours died of Alzheimer after SUFFERING forover several years. At the beginning she knew she had it,she was a very intelligent woman, it was so sad to hear her talking about it; she wanted to die, but nature decided to let her live and suffer for a very long time😢
For Rita, I see this as another horrible ‘fact’ that came to her. I hope she rests in peace. I really do😢
I truly hope she was free of her nightmares. She didn't deserve that was handed.
I truly hope she was free of her nightmares. She didn't deserve that was handed.
I've always believed Fatty Arbuckle was innocent . I have read a lot about it. ruined his career
We all have a role to play in life. Professional actors for some reason prefer to play somebody else instead. When playing characters don't fullfil their existential needs they tend to masquerade some other ways and as expected doesn't end well. This happen to often to be considered just a coincidence. Just saying.
Barbra Payton and Frances Farmer were both born and raised in Minnesota. Frances moved back to Minnesota after her retirement.
Peggy Entwistle was the stepmother of Brian Keith who committed suicide suicide after his daughter possibly committed committed suicide or was pushed out of her apartment window.
It wasn't just his daughter's suicide that pushed Brian Keith to commit suicide. He also suffered from depression and was faced with financial difficulties.
Wow, really? I did not know this! I always liked Brian Keith and enjoyed his movies and TV shows.
@@sumajewski8368 As well as his cancer diagnosis
Thats not Bob Hope at 2.34 isnt that Franchot Tone?
This channel does poor research. Not the first time this has happened.
Good eye.
Yes
I read once that one actress was offered several parts if she would sleep with I believe her agent or director she would not, but still got parts in movies w/ o losing her morals to the big guys
With all due respect Elizabeth Short wasn't exactly an actress . Although she did move to California to become an actress but never made it. 💔
Poor Elizabeth Short! 😢
Yes😢
Poor Frances Farmer !!! 😢
😢
Poor Marion! 😢
😢
Marion was done fkn dirty by Citizen Kane
I appreciate how you used such exacting and fresh descriptors to highlight the tragic lives of these Hollywood actors. With each vignette presented within your video here, you were able to clearly, albeit briefly, illustrate some apparent ambiguities between fame, fortune and tragedy. (And it would be remiss of me if I didn't acknowledge my perception that you are moving away from the repetitive use of the terms "icon"and "iconic"-- at least in this presentation, as their respective usages appeared limited; and for that, I am so thankful!!)
I actually started to hate the word "iconic". It's used for everything now. How can anything be iconic when EVERYTHING is iconic??
Informative video. But I was totally expecting Marie Prevost to make the list. It would have been a good opportunity to dispel the rumor that her dog began eating her corpse before authorities discovered her. This falsehood has been mentioned in songs and other media for years.
I have that same photo of Elizabeth post mortem
Arbuckle was never guilty. She was notoriously known to be wild and rumored to be treated for syphilis.
Agree
Proof? 😂
Yes let’s blame the victim
@@cherishdials3650 Do some research
Who gave her the syphilis
Where did u come up with that lol
PS. There are NUMEROUS INCORRECT ITEMS stated about The Black Dahlia ” Elizabeth Smart).
8:22 so Baby Peggy was the daughter of Gary Cooper???
half the photos have nothing to do with what we are hearing.
half the people here have nothing to do with Hollywood.
No, her father was an extra in Westerns, and she and her mother and sister were extras in movies in the 30s and 40s as well.
Marion Davies was very pretty 🤩
Your favourite?
Narrator sounds like the Cookie Monster. Not to mention many misuses of the English language.
A I voice
None of the photos shown were of Ann McKnight they are of ANNA DE CAVALIER.
To many unnecessary or wrong pictures.
The one in the white suit sat on a chair it could have been David Bowie ❤he must have copied Elvis ❤
Bowie did admire Elivis and accredited him as an early influence. Fun fact, they also shared a birthday.
You were nice with Barbra Peyton…she ended up a her0ine and alcohol dependent and a pr0stitute and was found dying of organ failure near a dumpster. It was THAT bad 😢
Learn to spell.
More research is needed on these videos. Much of the information is questionable. Some is accurate but as they say buyer beware. I dont believe Elizabeth short ever acted in anything. Horrible end for a girl drawn to the bight lights.
HOWEVER......
In my personal opinion, if two actors date or get married, if the lady is a little more successful, communication non existence, women stayed back, ruined by their SOs, family...downhill from there. I hope theyre all resting in peace❤
No morals.
Elizabeth Short was never in any movies. Not even as an extra.
Rappe very sad 😢
🥲
The black dhalia
Elizabeth Short did not want to be actress. She didn't go to California for that reason.
If your source is Gilmore's book on The Black Dahlia, you need to take what's written with a grain of salt. One source said he was a "pathological liar" and another said, "Critics have questioned the accuracy of Gilmore's book, describing it as "25% mistakes, and 50% fiction". --- I would give more creedance to "Black Dahlia Avenger: The True Story" by Steve Hodel.
@@sumajewski8368 I hope Steve Hodel mentioned in his book that his father, who was a doctor, that performed illegal abortions, was the main suspect for Elizabeth Short's murder. I thought I read that Steve Hodel, who was a police detective, proved it....Did Steve Hodel mention any of this in his book?
When did prostitution become "sex worker"?.
Sync the pictures with the words BOB HOPE.Bette Davis picture instead of Entwhistle.
How factual is this video? Did the producers take the time to fact check the things they include as fact in this? I hope that content creators begin to have more intergrity snd not just produce content full of assumptions and half truths.
👍🙋♀️👍
Dad.
They never said that they went to bed with Marilyn Monroe and woke up with Norma Jean please get it right
By the time this video was made, The Black Dahlia murder had been solved.
Naw
@@JackieBlue65 truly
@@TeresaGrammater-hp3mk Didn't know that,who did...that Dr.???
@@JackieBlue65 no, a cop, named Steve Hotel, worked the case like 15 years and discovered his own father did the murder among others. Saw this on an A&E detective show years ago.
@@TeresaGrammater-hp3mk Thank you💜
If you keep on making your vids look old by adding those disturbing ‘spots’ moving around, I will not look anymore😮
OH WOOOOOWWWW!!! I didn’t even notice those until I read this comment and now I can’t unsee it. Good eyes!!
Interesting video, HOWEVER, HOWEVER, HOWEVER, HOWEVER, HOWEVER, resulting in scandalous rumors and innuendo, HOWEVER, all was forgiven and forgotten…HOWEVER…
You should give us a warning if you’re going to show gruesome pictures of the dead. Shame on you!
Indeed, and also if you are showing trailers of new movies about ‘devil possession’!!! Scares me to dead!!!!!😮
Seriously! Lupe in her casket was discreet, but those autopsy photos of Virginia Rappe and Elizabeth Short merit some kind of warning to viewers. Whoever's obtaining the great photos (many of which I've never seen before) needs to do a bit more fact-checking / research: 5:50 Newspaper headlines from the 1970s? Decades after what you’re describing took place. 8:21 That’s Gary Cooper, not Baby Peggy’s dad. 17:57 That’s Bette Davis, not Peg.
Oh please, there's more violence on TV and in the movies than what was shown here. If you're speaking of the pics of Elizabeth Short (The Black Dahlia), the ones posted were not gruesome, and the description offered by the narrator doesn't touch the surface of what happened to her.
@@sumajewski8368 FACTS!!!! 💯 People like this is the reason everything has warnings labels. Reminds me of that woman that sued McDonald’s because she got burned by coffee and they had to put Caution HOT on the lids. I don’t know what exactly you were expecting a video with this title to be about. Kittens, unicorns, or rainbows? I guarantee you’ve seen more violence and inappropriate things in Game of Thrones, hell even Harry Potter had dead bodies in it for fuck’s sake.
Yeah Angelique what gives you the right to say that about of of the greatest stars to grace the screen oh your jealous of such talent
Lizzie was murdered. Give her a break
How do you Not have Marilyn on the list ?? Unsubscribed👎
🐑❄️☦️🇺🇲🫀😘🪖🌎
IT'S NOT EASY BEING A LADY❤
Have morals.
