    I don't believe "the casting couch" is metaphorical. That really happened and still does. My daughter tried to get into Hollywood and told me all about it.

      just because something is used as a metaphor doesn’t mean it can’t be true. I wouldn’t look at this video for anything that resembles the correct use of grammar, pronunciation, or the adept use of language devices. in fact, things are so strangely pronounced. I think it must be some sort of computer..

    Marion Davies was far from a tragic heroine. Read her book "The Times We Had," written long after Hearst's death, in which she describes amazing hi-jinks on their art history tours in Europe, fabulous parties at her beach house in Santa Monica, and playing a part in the tangled politics of the time. She drank too much but she sure enjoyed it. Unlike the babe in Citizen Kane, she had huge talent. She said the movie didn't bother her, as it had nothing to do with them. She was no victim, and she was never dependent on Hearst. She always made her own money.

    The big tragedy imo, is through time and yes the' Citizen Kane' film, Marion Davies is only remembered as Wiliam Hearsts mistress instead of the talented smart women she was in real life

  • @mariachaparro792
    @mariachaparro792 8 месяцев назад +21

    Marion Davies was enormously talented and no portrayal of her has ever been able to do her justice. She was a very savvy and smart businesswoman, she was a very talented actress, a consummate comedienne and her memory has been tainted by the harmful association with the talentless character in Citizen Kane for 80 years and counting. Orson Welles himself said on several outlets the character was a fiction and was in no way a portrait of the real life Marion, who he knew very well himself. In her own words, she was basically living a fairy tale during her years with Hearst and, in her way, loved him. She did unfortunately had an alcohol abuse problem, exacerbated by the constant partying and proved to be her undoing after Hearst's death and was basically left out in the cold by his vengeful family

    We all have a role to play in life. Professional actors for some reason prefer to play somebody else instead. When playing characters don't fullfil their existential needs they tend to masquerade some other ways and as expected doesn't end well. This happen to often to be considered just a coincidence. Just saying.

    I appreciate how you used such exacting and fresh descriptors to highlight the tragic lives of these Hollywood actors. With each vignette presented within your video here, you were able to clearly, albeit briefly, illustrate some apparent ambiguities between fame, fortune and tragedy. (And it would be remiss of me if I didn't acknowledge my perception that you are moving away from the repetitive use of the terms "icon"and "iconic"-- at least in this presentation, as their respective usages appeared limited; and for that, I am so thankful!!)
