    I'm going to be honest, I personally like some of MGK's music and I think he is over hated on. The situation with Slip Knot goes a little deeper than what you said in the video, I think Corey said MGK was wack or something along those lines in an interview and that's why MGK responded like that. I also think that if ANYTHING, MGK used HIP-HOP to get where he wanted to go... still fucked up no matter which way you look at it, but I think he's always been into this music. I also don't understand why people don't understand that people change? Like, yeah this man doesn't look like he did 5 years ago, that's how life goes. Maybe he found Pop Punk more fun to make. Either way, why CAN'T someone switch genres? Are we just keeping people in a box now? Idk, I feel like most of the hate towards MGK is from people who hated him before anyway.

    Huge fan of both. Peep's influence in the whole landscape of the music industry rn can't be empathized enough, and I think he definitely did inspire MGK in some way or form, but saying that MGK's music and aesthetic are blatantly copying peep is just outrageous imo. He puts on a pink outfit and now he's "copying Peep"? It's also funny to me how Peep used to be ridiculed by the public and apparently all of a sudden he's everyone's inspiration musically. Peep (one of the very few things you said here that I can agree with) absolutely was a visionary and brought a style of his own, but the point is that MGK is just not that same style at all. Also MGK has been playing the guitar for at the very least 7 years and he was friends with Chester Bennington (rip), and they did plenty of concerts together. I just think this has been a natural transition in genres for him, it just suits him.

    • @matthewbowley960
      @matthewbowley960 2 года назад +3

      Completely agree with this, I love both peep and mgk. Even if you go back to bloom it has some more guitar based stuff, that carries through to I think I’m OKAY and then obviously his last two records. He’s said himself he’s grown up with punk music and just never known how to do it properly so since travis is good mates it makes sense for him to switch it up with someone who can help!
      I do find the whole ‘look at him in 2013 to now, that’s unrecognisable’ like duh I didn’t dress the same back then to now, naturally you change 🤷🏻‍♂️

      I didn’t even know about MGK before the Eminem beef. In my opinion, he’s not a GREAT artist, but overall I think his music is pretty enjoyable to listen to, and he seems to work hard and does a really good job at networking. All that really matters is the music, and whether you enjoy it or not. It literally makes no difference what style MGK uses to represent himself. I’m not that invested.

  • @早
    @早 2 года назад +119

    While the argument is always going to be made that “emo style existed before lil peep”, i’d argue that emo/punk style was completely ostracized from the mainstream rap community until peep blew up. I feel like that’s around the time we saw the mainstream rap scene adopt more emo and punk traits and turn a minuscule sub genre into the new wave of music. So while Peep maybe isn’t the first of his kind, he’s definitely the first of his kind that caught the attention of the mainstream rap scene, and therefore I believe MGK’s new “persona” is completely based on Peep.

    This is what ppl miss with the style jacking/gatekeeping discussion:
    Its not simply “MGK is bastardizing the genre” Its a blatant siphoning and disrespect of a whole scene. He ran w/ the image/attitude of a scene he never contributed to, nvr hired any1 from the underground, never collaborated with artists from this scene, never repped or supported any underground brands, or gave back at all & we’re supposed to be okay with that? Young artists aren’t just struggling in this scene, they are dying. Whether you view that as tragedy or martyrdom… There are young ppl risking their lives to do something they truly love and believe in. The punk/underground scene has nvr been well known for being ripe with resources ($) I know so many EXTREMELY talented ppl still striving to make ends meet, struggling mentally. And I know way too many people who fucking died trying! Died believing in something bigger than themselves! I’d nvr blame their death on any1 else but when you see some1 steal a whole ass style, and run with it like its theirs, in a whole different scene, its like fuck man

    Ngl I do enjoy your channel. But for you to say that MGK didn't or hasn't paid homage is false. The song 'Glass House' by MGK he says "Wish Lil Peep and me had spoke but I can't get that back" and THEN in MGK's lockdown session video for 'Pretty Toxic Revolver' he says "head hurting all week cuz of bad coke, then the same week Peep overdosed, that's f*cked up" so how is he not paying homage or showing love to Peep? Or how is he not respecting Peep? I've been a huge fan of MGK since 2010 and i've always been a fan of Peeps music as well (just got a face tatt in memory of Peep) but how is MGK not paying any homage or any respect to Peep when he's mentioned him in multiple different songs. Also his last tik tok about the 'emo' thing... that was literally, and obviously just meant to be taken as a funny thing and showing that he really just does not give a f*ck it wasn't meant to be taken seriously lol also the song 'Emo Girl' was written because he's engaged to Megan Fox and (Megan has even said this publicly) Jennifers Body was her favorite role to play and that's what MGK's writing perspective came from.

    • @PhantxmWitch
      @PhantxmWitch 2 года назад

I remember trying to put people on and they’d say he was trash because his material was so new that it could be uncomfortable at times, especially when one is used to Drake or Kendrick in that era. MGK needs to find that. When Peep first hit, the ears didn’t know how it felt until you really listened in. First listen I wasn’t sure how I felt about his music, until multiple playbacks. You realized his individualism from the rest the further you paid attention. Blatantly copying with zero energy, that’s a way to shortly burn rather than fuel a fire.

Lil peep had a very noticeable genre of grunge while machine gun kelly has two genres of music. One being rap and the other being different styles of rock. Mainly punk rock. I agree that machine gun kelly has recently started to dress very similar to lil peep. But do not forget that lil peep past away in 2017. Machine gun kelly only started to incorporate his controversial style of dressing (similar to peep) ever since he released “tickets to my downfall” (released in 2020) when he really started to switch his genre to punk rock. Mgk was raised listening to hardcore rock and punk rock bands (according to Deezer music streaming perform ) which would make sense for him to switch to the genre which he has been brought up with. In ''Glass House'' he refers to Lil Peep saying: ''Wish Lil Peep and me had spoke but I can't get that back'' Thus he clearly wanted to meet him and quite frankly could have been a fan of his. It isn't weird to want to be like your idol and do things similarly. You're blatantly hating on him in this video and there is no reason for this at all. You're saying his public persona is deteriorating, yet you decide to make a video hating on him in front of 2 mil subscribers? That's hopping on the hate train for a little bit of clout. Look, I usually like your reactions, but this is not useful or entertaining.

      Imitation and copying are different. If you idolized Kevin gates or eminem and thus proceeded to copy their lyrics and try to pass it as your own song you'd get sued. Same thing if you tried to copy, idk Chanel or Gucci. If you instead wrote or created your own work that was simply inspired by artists you idolized, it'd be a very different outcome. Pointing out these things isn't jumping on a hate train for clout, it's simply pointing out that what someone in the creative industry is doing isn't original or creative and thus sus af

    It's like peep invented something... He was just a trap kid copying the grunge/emo scene that he loved and he made something good in the process. But he wasn't original. And now Kells, along with Modsun, KennyHoopla, Bear and the likes are developing that sounds where Peep sadly couldn't because he passed too early. I don't know the kind of music Peep would be making if he was still alive, but I'm sure he'd be good terms with MGK or even making stuff together

    The answer is no man lmfao MGK haters really do the most...it's so fucking weird. That man is human at the end of the day. Go do something more positive with that energy instead of making a nearly 10 min video of you reaching with an already altered perception of him. Dude been in the game for 10+ years and ya'll act like he just came into the scene 3 years ago lol. He's always been like this and has always crossed genres. What's different is that dude got a hair transplant and ended up gaining more revenue with success which added on to his style.

    There is a photo on the internet of Lil Peep at a fashion show in Europe. At the fashion show, Lil Peep is sitting on the right of Victor Cruz (ex football player) and to the left MGK is sitting. Though a photo doesn’t exist of all 3 of them sitting together, piecing different images together you can see Cruz was the only person sitting between the two. In no way did MGK talk to Peep or vice versa. Should’ve shown him love then and there. I believe MGK also mentioned this fashion show in an interview where he says he wishes he spoke to him. Really seems like he’s riding Peep’s wave or trying to atleast.

    I always felt like he was copying Peep's style since he's doing punk music and he wears pink clothes now, but he's always been a fan of rock music like he was a big fan of Linkin Park and went on tour with them before and he also made a cover of Numb after Chester Died and he died way before Peep plus he was born way before him and was a mainstream artist way before him too so MGK did have influence from Rock music but he didn't exactly start it until after his beef with Eminem since he wanted people to forget about the beef for a while and experiment with someone else which makes sense obviously!

    Cuf I know you come from a genuine point of view but it’d be nice of you did a bit more research on Mgk before making these videos because I can see where you lack knowledge on him, creating very debatable topics
