this week the boys are still in Japan and where is QT you might ask? she spent 3 hours trapped in a snowy ditch alone in the middle of nowhere USA planning her new life there after a semi-truck spun her off the road. her tow truck needed a tow truck and she peed in a cup.

Austin is unironically 100% correct with his ambulance take. My cousin had an appendix on the verge of busting , in tons of pain, He was so insistent that “I should go to the hospital but dont wanna call an ambulance, itll be too expensive” but it turns out if we HADNT CALLED, he probably wouldve died. Although it was expensive as it was in the US, it still literally saved his life.
Our housekeeper had to go home suddenly one day cuz her brother wasn’t feeling well. Turns out dude was in full on renal failure and didn’t even have the energy to get up from bed anymore cuz he didn’t wanna call an ambulance

Fun fact: You can call for the EMTs to come take a look at you free of charge (Obviously, don't abuse this). You will only get an ambulance charge if you are taken to the hospital. So, if you are unsure if you need an ambulance, give them a call, and they can assess whether you need the ride or if it's safe for you to drive in (at your own risk). Don't hesitate to call if you're having an emergency!
I got first hand experience of the Japanese healthcare system a few years ago as a tourist. During a family vacation in Japan my mom tripped and fell in the street near Akihabara. It was obvious she had a concussion and needed an ambulance, and a policeman quickly came over to help. He spoke no English so he and my dad were going through Google Translate until a group of nice tourists stopped to help translate with the limited knowledge they had ((which was more than our none). When the ambulance got there the doctor used his phone to translate and told us only one other person could accompany my mom in the ambulance, the others would have to follow in a cab. Me being 15 or 16 at the time and my little sister already visibly shaken from the experience it was decided I would be in the ambulance and my dad would be with sister in the cab. Once everyone was loaded in, the doctor turned to me with his phone translator that said "you will have to pay, is that okay?". I just nodded a yes because what else was I going to do and we started driving. Once we got there and my mom was stabilized my dad immediately started to call American Express to tell them not to deny any massive charges in Japan. He was expecting of thousands of dollars at least because we had no Japanese insurance and my mom had gotten x-rays and an MRI plus the ambulance. The final bill is handed to us and it was something like ¥25,000, which my dad thought was in USD at first. Once he realized the total was about $230 he went back to the front desk to confirm they had it right (they did). Every doctor and staff we spoke to during all of this was very kind, patient and accommodating when it came to translating things for us, especially when my mom was attempting to describe her symptoms and how/where she was feeling pain. It was also empty like y'all described, in all of the hospital I saw there were only staff walking around and the waiting rooms were vacant besides us. TLDR; If you get hurt, get hurt in Japan
