Thank you for the video. I was debating on whether to get this now. Being my favorite movie of all time and seeing how it’s set up in defiantly have to get this for my collection. I have it on laserdisc, vhs, dvd, and the 50th anniversary blu ray set. So I gotta get the 4k. lol.
I prefer the director’s cut because it gives so much more information on the world of black ops in Garrison’s meeting with Mr. X. This is a nice set from Shout. I like the sturdy case. I would like to see Shout! tackle Stone’s “Nixon” next because I feel that one really could use the 4k treatment. It’s also sort of a companion film to “JFK.” Viewers interested in this era of U.S. history and Stone’s work should see both films. Perhaps Shout! will tackle “Born on the Fourth of July” soon as well. I’m really impressed and thankful they are moving through Stone’s filmography and working on these excellent 4k releases.
Such a great film! Nice to see them release this set. I too have the previous release. Looks like I need to break it out for a watch this holiday season.
Picked up mine this morning at Best Buy, fortunately they’re still selling movies! This is the ONE I’ve waited for the most! Could be time to retire the old Laserdisc…
I am a huge fan of this film as well.. Release date here in the states it's not until Tuesday the 19th. I am looking forward to getting this and yes I prefer the director's cut with any of Oliver Stone work.
A top 5 fave film for me... I'm pretty sure the bluray I have only has the directors cut so I'll likely revisit the theatrical for the first time in forever when I pick this up
Never seen this but it's been on my watchlist for a long time, I've just ordered from WowHD. Looks like a great set but a bit surprised the theatrical cut is only Blu Ray. Great video as always Rich. 👍
The director’s cut is far better because of the historical background it gives. It’s preferred by most. Today on X, Stone said budgeting reasons and because the director’s cut gives viewers more content, they went with doing the director’s cut in 4k but not both. Stone prefers the director’s cut himself so that’s the most important reason. At least the theatrical version is preserved for film history reasons. I wish George Lucas would understand the historical value in that and release the original version of the Star Wars original trilogy.
i thought JFK revisted was supposed to be included?. But I got mine today and it didnt say it had it but could have sworn I read awhile back that it was suppost to?
I’m not a fan of pointlessly adding more boxes to a set. The blu rays could have just been in one box and made this more shelf friendly. Give us a book instead if anything and make the slip red white and blue. Can’t believe I’ve still never seen this. Is it like a conspiracy type thing or just telling the story of the day? Great unboxing as usual.
It is a conspiracy investigation. It is based on Jim Garrison’s investigation in New Orleans. He was the District Attorney of Orleans Parish at the time, and he is the only one to bring a case to trial for conspiracy to kill President Kennedy. It explores all the major theories of the day (Soviets, Cubans, CIA, Mafia) but Oliver Stone made a pretty compelling film. It’s pretty intense.
I wouldve been stoked with just the director's cut and theatrical on two separate 4k discs plus a booklet. I wouldn't call this packaging pointless tho - from Shout's standpoint it's much easier to manage probably. As for the movie itself, definitely in my top 5. Essentially an official investigation into who killed him, but the filmmaking is some masterclass work with the synergy between the editing, cinematography, and score.
@MrKallmyr123. Tried the disc and it said invalid region. On my Panasonic I was able to press stop. Then 1 and then popup menu and was able to view the special features. Unfortunately the trick didn’t work for the theatrical cut. Pressing stop wouldn’t exit the invalid region message.
One of my favourite films, I prefer the director’s cut. Slightly disappointed in the packaging from Shout here, feel they should’ve gone further to give this the premium treatment it deserves. That said I will be getting it, but also keeping the excellent DVD digipak release.
The entire set is not locked to Region A. Only the blu-rays are locked. The 4K is, as always, Region Free. Which is always annoying because if you don’t have a region free player you cant utilize the bonus features.
I double checked the 4k for region locking since they have locked one in the past, by mistake. It is region free. The blu of the movie is locked but the special features is soft locked. I could bypass it in my Panasonic player with the stop. 1. Pop up menu key presses.
Shout has been known to lock their 4K discs in the past, some times anyway. Is there anyone of knowing if this is the case with JFK? (I know Blu-ray discs are region A)
Yeah I’ve checked it. 4k Plays fine in the uk. Just inserted the disc and worked straight away. The special features blu I was able to play using the Panasonic hack.

I was planning on buying this but for that much money why not include Stone's JFK Revisted: Through the Looking Glass documentary as a bonus feature? Plus this movie did not age well on the facts vs conspiracies. He had the right intentions but he picked things that are already debunked.
best movie ever, though I don't have k anything, I've got the original Ultimate collector's dvd, and the oliver stone original dvd collectors set, and all his books, but I need a blu ray, so, I'm gonna try and score an Open 2013 50th box set like your there, who knows if I will succeed, it's a mystery, wrapped in riddle, inside Enigma, even the f*** shooters don't even know, dON'T YOU GET IT??!?

This is my second favorite film of all time. I am so happy it got a Criterion-esqe treatment. My pre-order should come shortly!
Great fan of JFK I like you prefer directors cut would liked both in 4k though.

A great movie 🎬 and a solid 4k bluray release fair dos nicely done 💿👍👍
Such a great film! Nice to see them release this set. I too have the previous release. Looks like I need to break it out for a watch this holiday season.
Yeah that previous blu-ray super boxset is a work of art. I have it too and will never part with it.
Picked up mine this morning at Best Buy, fortunately they’re still selling movies! This is the ONE I’ve waited for the most! Could be time to retire the old Laserdisc…
Since unfortunately the extended cut has an infamous continuity error, the theatrical cut is the one to go...
I am a huge fan of this film as well.. Release date here in the states it's not until Tuesday the 19th.

Which discs is the standard 4k release likely to have when it comes out?
Soooo...... How does the 4K look compared to the blu ray? Is it sharper? Is there a lot of film grain?
Director's cut definitely better still have dvd and laserdisc sets never purchased the blue ray but will be getting this no doubt
Hi. Where can you buy this in the UK at Shout Factory posts to US only. Thanks
Amazon USA. Wowhd. Ebay
A top 5 fave film for me... I'm pretty sure the bluray I have only has the directors cut so I'll likely revisit the theatrical for the first time in forever when I pick this up
Great unboxing! - does it include the documentary film "JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass"?

Love jfk I’m waiting for my set to arrive. I prefer the directors cut myself 👍

It lays out what likely happened and how it was done and gives the geopolitical context of the early 60s answering the WHY it happened above all else.
Is the special features disc region A locked?
It’s shout. It’s very very highly likely that it is. I’ll check it out in a bit and let you know.

@@4kCollectivE thanks! this works for the panasonic ub820?

Is there no 4k of the theatrical cut ? Thats long enough as it is and is more than adequate
No theatrical cut in 4K. Just the longer directors cut.
Why does length matter if you can watch at home and take breaks at your leisure? The director’s cut is preferred by most fans and Stone himself.
Shout has been known to lock their 4K discs in the past, some times anyway. Is there anyone of knowing if this is the case with JFK? (I know Blu-ray discs are region A)

@@4kCollectivE was that Pana 820 or 9000? is it the stop and pressing menu process?(or something like it)
Yes. Stop. 1. Popup menu.
How can you tell the size of the disc? Do they say on them
Count the rings around the disc hub on the flip side.
@@4kCollectivEyou count 50, 66, or 100 rings that fast man?! Lol 🙃
they should have included the new documentary he made about it
Hi, is the 4K disc region free?
Yes.

I thought it was supposed to include it? I know I read an article where it said it was supposed to include it. Maybe I misread it.

I'm relieved this packaging is lame.. three amaray cases for 4 discs is excessive. Hard pass for me.
It’s a nice sturdy box. What’s lame about 3 cases?
