- This video is the only time this thing loaded a CD. Right after the video the CD-ROM died a million deaths. It is now not working, sadly! Anyway, at least I got it to fire up just the once, and for that I am reasonably grateful!
Very nice TV mate!
What a great find though mate!! friggin awesome, im sure you will learn all the menu's etc given time!
Was an awesome find. Was buzzing to have it. It's just a tragedy that it died. There can't be many of them around compared to the mainstream consoles, so to lose one is a bad day. I would have loved to try out a game or two on it at the very least. Real shame.
Awesome pickup and really sad to hear that it's now broken, hope you will be able to fix it.
Cheers. Yeah, it's a tragedy. I'm not fussed about it being worth less. It's more that one of these beasts has died. It's like an endangered animal dying. Kinda...;)
Thanks for comment!
Lucky bloke. Been five years in Japan and haven't gotten one yet. Probably 3rd time watching this video. I'll get one before I move that's for sure.
I just got a Doc Brown ODE and HxC floppy emulator for mine. No need to uses discs anymore on prone to fail HW.
Cool fm towns
Holy shit mate!!! What a steal!! ;)
The price was good yeah. I got seriously lucky. It's a shame it's broken now. ;(
Cheers for comment.
Jesus, that's awesome! Don't see those every day. I hope we get to see you play a game on it before you move it on.
Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, the machine does not work anymore. It's a real tragedy that this beast has stopped working as the CD ROM drive is very hard to replace. Sad times indeed. ;(
I would have bought it too! Did you try sending Luke a PM? It might be something as simple as replacing the laser. Granted I don't know how "simple" that would actually be, it's complete and in excellent cosmetic condition, so it would be worth going to some effort to try to fix, I would say. Great find either way.
I have researched repairs, exhaustively. Lasers are very hard to come by. There are no readily available replacement parts. It may be a case of buying a working model and swapping it out which defeats the purpose entirely due to expense and the futility of swapping parts over from a working system. The only other viable avenue would be to find a Japanese console repairer but my Japanese is not to a sufficient level to organize something like that. I wish I could get it working, but I'd definitely still sell it on after repairing it. I really have no desire to keep it. Honestly, I paid ¥2500 for it, which is a pittance, so if it's junk then I have no problem with it. I would love for it to work though.
Oh my head the cardboard box is worth more than that!
A Japanese repairer, because they're more likely to have spare parts because this was a Japanese exclusive. Also, I've followed Yahoo auction listings since for junk Marty's and they sell for around ¥20000, which suggests to me somebody knows how to repair them here or have the means to, at least.
Don't throw it away. It can always be fixed!
what a tease to work for a brief moment, at least you didnt paid full retail price for it, im guessing its unlikely you will get it to work again then. i bet you the box is worth more than what you paid for it, let alone the rest of it
It was a bargain, but would have loved to have had it working at least to play a couple of games on it. Very tragic outcome indeed. Not many people will get to see one so I should be grateful I guess. I don't think it's easily repaired. Maybe someone in Japan can do it. I might look into it. Cheers!
So what game is that on the tv?
Whatever happened to the Towns?
how did you get that online for less than 3 figures??
If it worked when you got it then it died or was dying.... I'm thinking it's one of three things. 1 it may need it's capacitors replaced. Find someone who can solder and a diagram or this baby's internals. 2 It could be a cd drive motor. 3 It may need a replacement cd lens. Don't fret. Find someone who mods and repairs consoles. There's always a way!
Jacob Prayer I think the system used a belt in the drive, so maybe it's that...
So scary
