some people have "hands in hair" syndrome. they often touch or twirl the hair in one side more often then the other causing extra wear and tear. thanks for the video😊
Yep. I used to favor my left side while sleeping, and when I went natural I noticed that side was thinner and slower-growing than the right. Trained myself to switch it up at night.
Emma Burns Wow I have always had long hair as a child .My hair was to my elbows full even all the way never see through .Now as I got older not having my mother doing my hair , just wanting independence because I was grown .The health of my hair has declined .Now at the age of 35 my hair is 20 “ long but the right side grows longer by one 1inch in a half .So I cut my hair the day before yesterday .I feel super fed up because this is my fifth time doing so in a year .Plus I feel my progress never get better as far a length because I cut all the time .My hair should be way longer but is stuck at the length for two years .But my hair definitely looked thicker with the blunt cut .Therefor I realized that it’s not the way I’m maintaining my hair it’s just the way my hair functions .So if I got to keep cutting to maintain a healthy look so be it.
I might agree with lack of circulation for sleeping more on my right side being responsible for it being shorter and thinner than the hair that is longer and luxurious on the left side of my head!
I always wondered why the right side of my hair was always shorter than my left side. This video was informative, because I use to cut my hair a lot. I thought there was something wrong with it. I'm going to stop now (didn't like cutting my hair all the time) Thank you and God bless!
one side of my hair is easy to put on products and gets soft and easy to manage then my other side is more rough and poofy and it takes awhile for the products to kick in.
My right is the thinner weaker side. Love sleeping on this side, even when I try to sleep on my left, I wake up in the right. But, I'll keep on trying. Looking lovely lady.
The backside of my head has hair that is always silkier and smoother and very short, while the coursest part of my head (and the longest) is the middle. The front half of my head is longer, the back is short. When I big chopped, I did a pixie cut, then later on I shaved the pixie off. It all looked even, until it started growing out. Is this bc of the pixie, or is it really that the back of my head is 2 inches while the rest is at least five?
That happened to me as well. Big chopped thinking it was going to be even but as I was growing out, it happened again! 😂 but I have noticed a difference when I started wearing my hair in twists and using hair grease. Good luck!

Hello am having that problem with my hair, that’s The left side is growing faster than a right side and that is my hair I’m having this problem and I’m trying to figure out why?? Thank you so much for answering that question for me ,
I just cut my hair back in last August and it's now March. My the sides of my hair haven't hit 1" yet. The top and back are at 2" 😫 I'll try some of these methods Queen.
Great video. Very well educated about this also. I found out it was a circulation for me. I just want hair dressers, stylists and cosmotologists to stop cutting the hair and making it even with the other side. This is NOT necessary. Hair should be trimmed according to each section NOT making it all one length all the time. As said in your video, this is how the hair grows.
Hey! I noticed that my hair grows faster on the sides than the crown! Creepy huh! And the porosity and texture is different on themas well. It's the most prone to breakage and sheds more due to work stress (thanks to your black tea/coffee mix that is now managed) Whereas the crow has barely any tension, grows slower and doesn't have these symptoms.
I tried sleeping on my thick side and it started getting like my more looser curled side and im loving it! Soon the frontal parts are gonna grow out like that back
My left side is shorter than my right side. Omg!! I keep cutting my hair to even it and still does not help and I keep showing my husband and he gets so annoyed with me hehe. I'm glad I check and find this video and now i can stop cutting my hair 🙏
So glad this helped you. Please feel free to join our Facebook group DiscoveringNatural Group for more help . Here is the link bit.ly/DiscoveringNaturalGroup
I'm so happy I found your video. I was going crazy trying to figure out what I did wrong. I thought maybe I sunt some growth on my right side. Thanks for your video😊
they say anxiety causes it too, but I guess it depends on parts of your brain that isn't activated. Also some people are right handed maybe that has something to do with it. The right side of my hair is less hair than on the left
Well I can relate completely. My real hair is 20” long .But the right side grows longer than the left buy an inch and a half .I have been cutting for over two years due to this condition .But I’ve truly come to the realization that my hair is definitely going through weird changes .When I was a kid my hair was to my elbows full and blunt .Every strand was even and full no see through hair here .No as I’ve gotten older my hair has been thin by genetics at the top .My edges was ruined because of a bad braid installation which was two years ago and my edges haven’t recovered .I have no shedding and my hair now is 20 inches pretty full healthy with the thinning of my crown and edges .So I’m going to eliminate relaxes hair dyes etc to see my progress .If I don’t see any progress I know it’s not me but genetics and other key factors .Also I got my hair from my mother and grandma but my moms hair is super super thin .Shed a lot and is always dry .But she has diabetes,Highblood pressures ,and had a hysterectomy .So her hormones are all over the place .She takes lots of meds .But I really feel like our hair thrived as kids and as a early adult but something is wrong because we both have the same story as far as our hair .Healthy now declining and we don’t do much to our hair at .I wear wigs most of the time as a protective style and her hats .So I guess I half to keep cutting .But the one good thing since I cut it blunt my hair is super full .So I’m a happy camper
The thing about sleeping. I sleep on my right side and that’s the side that’s longer, my hair and sleeping go against that. I’m thinking my locks messed my scalp up from being retwisted. My hair hasn’t been right since I took them out and then cut my hair two months after combing them out.
Thanks so much for the info. It drives me nuts that my left side is a tad bit longer. Even when I get it cut to even it out, it grows back the same. I sleep on my right side most of the time all my life, so maybe that's why the left is always a little longer. :(
My edges on my left side is thin compared to the right side because I lay on my left side more. I need to start buying silk pillow cases cuz I hate wrapping my hair up lol
I have this issue with the front left side of my head. When you mentioned sleeping on a specific side all the time that made sense. Also for me i used to do call center/customer service work and wore a headset on my left side for years like 7 lol. Now I’m noticing it slowly catch up with the help of protein treatments and after styling i leave it be for about two weeks until it’s wash day again.
My hair grows faster and longer right down the back of my head right down the center my hair grows in a V shape. I have tried to cut it straight across even. Three weeks later I have a long strip down the center.
Omg, you read my mind lol. That is exactly, why my hair grows faster on one side than the other. I have observed that over time, when I sleep on the left side, the hair is longer and vice versa. So when I want to even out my growth I try to switch sides.
I noticed my left side of my hair is shorter and grew slower the first time I relaxed my hair. During the relaxing process the left side didn't take the chemical process as well as the right side and literally since then it's always been shorter and had a slower growth rate but this was almost 9 years ago.. I don't get how I'm still struggling with this now.
I think I have this problem... my hair was even until I dyed it and got highlights.. then I started to take care of the right side more unconsciously..and what is left on the other side.. then I noticed that my left side is relatively breaking due to highlight and heat.. now I am trying to fix them I keep cutting the broken ends and evening them out .. it is getting better but I still need time... i think patience is key..also focusing the oil on my left side and massaging it helps..
The top of my head and left to right growing faster than the back why is that I want to start growing dreads but the back of my head is very short why is that?
I noticed when I was a teenager that my left side is thinner than my right. I always thought that it was because I sleep on that side. It's hard to break that habit though. TFS
DiscoveringNatural uh I know this is kinda weird but I don't do Facebook anymore, but I'm on other social networks. My hair is basically 4c tho and I also have low density (like my hair is pretty scanty). BTW I would love for you to do a video on tips to help kinky hair lay down, for times when you don't feel like wearing a afro, unless of course not every hair type falls down. Thanks. ☺
I have that same problem, I've noticed over time, my hair is two different textures, on the left side of my hair is more looser curly 4a & on the right side of my hair is very tight coiled 4b on the right with less length. I try to take care of my hair evenly. What do you suggest I do to get more length on the tightly coily side..
+Iris Bell You can try stretching that area. The reason why that area appears that way is because tightly coiled hair shrinks more than loosely coiled hair. Here are some ideas bit.ly/2jDeULF
I'm going through the same problem, when i was younger i didn't notice but when i started to grow up i came to know that, my left sides hair are longer & thick but right sides hair are short & thin, also my facial hair of mouth have same issue, left side is thick but right side is thin, what can i do plz, give a solution 🙏🏻
I try to fall asleep on my side but I always end up laying on my back. Mind you the back of my hair is where the short pieces n more matted pieces of hair are. I have 3b hair mind you.
Looking lovely and radiant!! I loooove those earrings! :)) Yes this is something i noticed last year in my journey but maybe it came more to surface as my hair grew. My damn right side is taking longer to grow and did thin a bit but is recovering from the thinning. Like you i pray i'm on the next side when i wake up lmao. I will not be chopping the longer side down. It's a reminder of how hard i've worked to get it LOL
The hair in the very back of my hair is significantly longer than the rest of my hair😐 On top of that, my left side is longer-ish than my right, or is it the other way round 🤔 I've tried trimming😭 In the end, I just accepted that my hair has uneven growth and I'm willing to live with it🤷♀️ It shows most in mini twists, otherwise when I wear it out it just looks all the same. Oh well😋
Hi can someone help. Im 16. Im trying to grow my hair its almost to bra strap but my mom when she does my hair she pulls and yanks with a comb and she was just like "well that's your hair type" "it's supposed to be like that" so much breakage came out and it was all over the wall too. She doesn't think that it will damage my hair and cause breakage by combing rough. She also doesn't believe i need a trim when my ends are straight and i have fairy knots. She believes to take REGULAR scissors and cut the hair, LIKE WTF! i seem to have no control over my hair growth journey and my mom is making it hard.
Have you asked her to let you do your hair yourself? That can be your first step at showing her the right way to do things. You could also show her our videos.
ok i need help. so when i was smaller i had combed out one side of my hair and i didnt comb out the other side and since then , the side that i had combed is more thicker and shorter than the long and thin side. so what should i do to make it go back the same hair texture on both?
I know this video old but I cut my hair yesterday and I noticed that my left side was more thicker than my right side so I'm guessing I get that from my mom.
My front and sides grow super fast and has a looser coil, easy to mamage but my crown is very tightly coiled and never grows as fast as the rest. I trim to maintain it but I don't want to start chopping into a taper...help please!!!!!
when I blow dry and stretch my hair out they're the same length but when its curly my right side just looks longer and the left side just looks short I'm just gonna be in denial and say my right side curls hang time is just more laid back 😩😅 I have 4a/4b and the back at the bottom of my head its a loser 4a on both side i probably just need a protein treatment I think my curl bonds on the right are starting to break idk why though, I keep my hair in two very loose afro puffs Im a lazy natural lmao
Thank you for this video. I was wondering why my left is longer than my right. I'm always sleeping on my right side. Not any more, I'm going to switch it up.
I’ve been cutting my hair for years because of the same reason my length now is 12” cuz I’m trying to let it grow but my left side in the back the length is 4 “ idk what to do no more I have to cut it to make it look even but I want long hair :( I have to hide n I most of the time I have a bun or ponytail sometimes use hair extensions idk what to do
its so bad for me because it grows in the front but never in the back and i dont even sleep on my back i sleep on the sides. its so annoying and idk how to fix it
One side of my hair is shorter and a bit fluffier than the other. Like one side naturally frizzes more than the other, anyone else get that?
My younger daughter has softer hair in front and more dense and thicker hair at the back.
DiscoveringNatural same here
Justine Horton YES ITS SO ANNOYING WHEN THIS HAPPENS TO ME
my hair is the exact same..even if i cut it evenly one side still will grow back longer than the other
Yesss and I hate it Ughhh
This is so helpful. My left side has always been shorter than the right.
+Khalilah KJ Thank you for watching. Feel free to share with others.
mine too
I think it has to do with the part of the brain we use the most, im left handed and the left side of my hair is longer than the right

yolanda gomez
I think that’s my problem! Thanks for clearing my thoughts!
I play with my right side of my hair more then my left. I don't even touch my left side.
i think that's why i used to suck on my fingers & twirl my hair on the left side that's why my fingers are bigger on one side too.
yolanda gomez wowowoww so thats whats been happening thanks
Yep. I used to favor my left side while sleeping, and when I went natural I noticed that side was thinner and slower-growing than the right. Trained myself to switch it up at night.
+Edin PursuitOfNatural That is so awesome that you figured it out
It’s so bad I always sleep on the right and it’s way thinner
did that make a difference though??
I always sleep on the back of my head
Literally em right now my whole left side is so much shorter and thinner than my right side it’s full as ever I do sleep on my left side a lot
ugh my right side is shorter than my left it's so annoying

What about having different curl patterns? I have 3-4 curl patterns in different sections, and they behave differently.
I love how I can depend on my queens!! Thanks for the video!!!
Thanks
So I just sleep on my face?
Lol!! Well, you can sleep on the side that has more hair
DiscoveringNatural I'm kidding :) i don't have a specific side I sleep on.
looolll
🤣
LMAAOOOOO
I sleep on my left and my left side is longer than the right so I'm confused but i also sleep in every position
It could be the other reasons 😉
My left side is longer too and thicker! @Kailyn Mabon

That happened to me as well. Big chopped thinking it was going to be even but as I was growing out, it happened again! 😂 but I have noticed a difference when I started wearing my hair in twists and using hair grease. Good luck!
This is my story! Cute pixie style and it never grew even again 😩
I just let my hair grow the way it wants now. It's relatively even now.
Awesome!
I'm glad I found this video because I was confused today about my hair growing on one side than the other side.
I am glad that it helped you
I like to keep my natural hair in micro braids (no extensions) and it's really able to be seen when it's braided. My right side is definitely longer than my left in the back. I wanted to do some research before grabbing scissors and trying to even it out. I think I will leave it be and just try to stimulate the left side more, maybe even put a little tea tree oil to stimulate blood flow on that side as well.

One piece of my strand of hair at the back of my head is longer then the rest. Why is that?
Hair grows at different rates. Watch this ruclips.net/video/TjY1s9r9CVU/видео.html
My hair on the sides and back is growing faster then the top .. I thought I was going bold but the top eventually looks fuller when is grows ..
Thanks for sharing your experience
thank you so much!
You are welcome
This is happening with my armpit hairs is it the same thing on the top of my head right???
I don’t know about that one o
Looking so stunning 💕💕💕
+Selena Eunice Thank you
The outer parts of my hair are longer than the middle😤
So sorry
Mine too😭
Its my whole left side longer than my right 🤦🏽♀️😩
YASSSSSS
I have relaxed hair will it still do the same. And no I’m not in transition.
It is possible
Then why is mine shorter and fluffy and rough at the middle and long and smooth around????and I sleep on my right
There could be other reasons as mentioned in the video
All of your videos are so informative. Love it
Thanks for watching
The left n right side of our body is not totally even. So it's not surprising that 1 side of our hair is longer or grows quicker than the other side.
You are right
I'm going through the same problem, when i was younger i didn't notice but when i started to grow up i came to know that, my left sides hair are longer & thick but right sides hair are short & thin, also my facial hair of mouth have same issue, left side is thick but right side is thin, what can i do plz, give a solution 🙏🏻

I really do sleep a lot on my right side 🤦🏽♀️
I try to fall asleep on my side but I always end up laying on my back. Mind you the back of my hair is where the short pieces n more matted pieces of hair are. I have 3b hair mind you.
Thanks for watching
your the BEST!!
+Tabitha Elliott Aww.. YOU ARE THE BEST for watching our videos
+RCIYAH Thank you so much.😘 I am glad this video helps you
My front is short and as you go further to the back it gets reallyyyy long, I’m frustrated 😂
It can be frustrating. You can also consult a trichologist as shown here ruclips.net/video/dGAE90lpjqo/видео.html
DiscoveringNatural thank you
The hair in the very back of my hair is significantly longer than the rest of my hair😐 On top of that, my left side is longer-ish than my right, or is it the other way round 🤔 I've tried trimming😭 In the end, I just accepted that my hair has uneven growth and I'm willing to live with it🤷♀️ It shows most in mini twists, otherwise when I wear it out it just looks all the same. Oh well😋
Finding a way to accept our limitations is important
My hair is the same way Trae!! @Tracey Banda
@@traceylennon1204 Maybe it's a Tracey thing? 😭😭😭 Gonna change my name to Lisa🤣😂 lol
lol i feel like i need help my back hair is longer than my front side and i usually sleep w my back side
It could be other reasons mentioned In The video
@@DiscoveringNatural ok ty
It could simply be the genetics of your hair texture. You could also try these tips ruclips.net/video/jU2gBveA-_w/видео.html
My front hair shorter then my front side I need advice I even put on it it still the same

@@DiscoveringNatural ok thanks
My hair is soo long on one side and other side is shorter and I don't want short hair so I don't cut it
Hope this video gave you some insight
It did,thanks.
I know this video old but I cut my hair yesterday and I noticed that my left side was more thicker than my right side so I'm guessing I get that from my mom.
Thanks for watching and glad you found it helpful
My hair used to grow evenly until I cut it.
😞🌸🌸🌸🌸
Same
My hair grow more thicker than height do u have any tips on that
Take a look at this ruclips.net/video/qRGtpNuaXVE/видео.html
why is the front of my hair is soo short .
+Regina Simmons It could be genetics, as I mentioned, or tight styles can also attribute to it.
I sleep on my left side more often than my right side & believe me the left is shorter than the right , and i hate it 💔
So sorry
My front and sides grow super fast and has a looser coil, easy to mamage but my crown is very tightly coiled and never grows as fast as the rest. I trim to maintain it but I don't want to start chopping into a taper...help please!!!!!
+karmakaze79 heck this out for your crown bit.ly/DN_Stop_Hair_Breakage_In_Crown
DiscoveringNatural awesome. Thanks for the info. I'm gonna try em all!😀
when I blow dry and stretch my hair out they're the same length but when its curly my right side just looks longer and the left side just looks short I'm just gonna be in denial and say my right side curls hang time is just more laid back 😩😅 I have 4a/4b and the back at the bottom of my head its a loser 4a on both side i probably just need a protein treatment I think my curl bonds on the right are starting to break idk why though, I keep my hair in two very loose afro puffs Im a lazy natural lmao
Thanks for sharing

Long hair on one side short hair on the other
It's like the hairstyle of a female character in cyberpunk 2077
😊😂
Thank you for this video. I was wondering why my left is longer than my right. I'm always sleeping on my right side. Not any more, I'm going to switch it up.
You are welcome
I’m right handed but I twist my hair with my left hand on my left side but I suck on the right, it makes no sense
Yes the struggle for flat twisting too like in this video ruclips.net/video/pH8vFxMOFMM/видео.html
Nice video

Thank you so much
I’ve been cutting my hair for years because of the same reason my length now is 12” cuz I’m trying to let it grow but my left side in the back the length is 4 “ idk what to do no more I have to cut it to make it look even but I want long hair :( I have to hide n I most of the time I have a bun or ponytail sometimes use hair extensions idk what to do
Check out our Natural Hair growth playlist bit.ly/Natural_Hair_Growth
its so bad for me because it grows in the front but never in the back and i dont even sleep on my back i sleep on the sides. its so annoying and idk how to fix it
Could the hair be breaking at the back? If you wear ponytails that could be the issue
the back of my hair is shorter than the front....but its long enough tho
