  • In the video I'll take you through my step by step process for drawing realistic animal eyes on Drafting Film.
I'm drawing kangaroo eyes in the video but the process is the same for most animal eyes so can easily be transferred to your own pet portraits.
I'll explain how I shape the eyeball, blend seamless, smooth transitions between the colours of the iris, how I create the highlights and reflections in the eye and how I mix colours directly on the surface of the drafting film. I'll also demonstrate how I start to draw the soft, fluffy fur around the edge of the eye.

I've created a Free RESOURCE PACK to go with this video. It includes a line drawing of the complete kangaroo's head which you can use if you want to use the techniques that you have learnt in the video to finish the complete drawing.

I love the fact you are using drafting film , it's fantastic to draw on. I think you have done such a wonderful job, I see kangaroos every other day in real life.Only meters from my front door. You get a 10/10 for a perfect replica.

Do you use drafting film for your commission work?

No, I tend to use hot pressed paper or Pastelmat for commissions. 😊
