    "Leaving a hole is as important as filling it"
    Ringo.
    This should be taped and played 24/7 - even while sleeping - to the majority of drummers.
    That is precisely why Ringo is so different and so much better that most.

      That's why people who don't know music don't think he's a good drummer. Like all the Beatles, Ringo was the consummate musician. That doesn't mean being wildly technical or flashy. It means that the music always comes first. ALL the Beatles always played to the song and they were always driven to play together to the point that none of them stood out. The song stood out, not the individuals.

      Ringo is/was a song drummer and an inspiration to me and my playing, especially in recent years. Sometimes less is more. Knowing when NOT to fill is just as important. Playing appropriately for the song. This is the most important thing I've learned as a drummer.

    Ringo, like Levon Helm, understood that drummers play to the song, not for themselves or to show technical chops. He played drums like Stevie Wonder, not look at me drummers like Neal Pert or Ginger Bake or Buddy Rich. I love Bonham and Peace and Gadd, and Purdee, but Ringo created over 300 Beats that supported his band mates. It’s like comparing a shredder to B.B King. I’ll take BB

    I'll admit to my lack of sophistication, but I've never seen the benefit of more than one drummer (and a percussionist) at a time. I'm quite sure there is both an art and science to it, but it's redundant to me. I thought the same thing while watching the Allman Bros or Doobie Bros back in the '70's. Both Ringo and Jim are legendary for similar and yet very different reasons. Love'em both. Respect the playing of each.

      @bobbycampbell3097 5 лет назад +5

      At first I thought down-voting was appropriate. I was wrong. You want to know what Bonham would've done? Check out his playing with Rockestra... That's the most similar to this situation, and shows that (the excellent!) JHB would have played for the song, just as these guys did. Bonham was fluid and masterful in his way. He would not have come into this concert and played all his licks. The main difference between Bonham and these guys, is Bonham locked into Page much more than Plant. Not better, not worse, just a different approach. Bonham is probably my favorite drummer of all time. Keltner is a monster. And Ringo gets better with every year I get older.

    • @tjkutsin
      @tjkutsin 5 лет назад

      Nah, I think Bonham would've been floored

    • @EdSullivan101
      @EdSullivan101 5 лет назад +2

      Apples and oranges. Bonham was his own instrument, and very good at holding down his individual corner of a very powerful trio. Every instrument in Zeppelin was front and center (equal) with the vocal, unlike The Beatles music. Ringo played WITH the others (mainly with the bass) to make an extremely subtle, but total, blend of backing instruments which fit behind the vocals.
      Anyway, Bill Bruford makes them all look like beginners.

    • @justafanintexas7913
      @justafanintexas7913 5 лет назад

      Bonham, by his own description, was a Neanderthal Slammer. He didn't play this style.
