One of the greatest. He beat the mythical Charley Burley twice while barely even 20 years of age. One thing that is overlooked regarding him -and there are many such things- is his sheer physical strength. In his fights against Louis and Marciano, he routinely got the better of them in the clinch. An amazingly well rounded fighter.
Ezzard Charles has one of the best resumes of all the p4p goats. He beat the following International boxing hall of famers: Middle-weight: Charley Burley Teddy Yarosz Light-Heavyweight Lloyd Marshall Joey Maxim Jimmy Bivins Archie Moore Heavyweight JJ Walcott Joe Louis He then proceeded to give Rocky Marciano his two hardest fights while suffering from early ALS, which is the reason why he lost so many times. He was the smallest man to ever become undisputed heavyweight champion. Unlike the fighters of today, he ducked nobody and always gave rematches to deserving opponents. This man dominated three of the eight original weight divisions, and deserves to be placed among the top five p4p fighters of all time.
