- Dearest Friends and Buddies, it is with much excitement and pleasure that I can now share with you friends finally: the showcase of this best hifi mall in the world :-D !!! I haven't been aware that the best has always been right under my nose, in Singapore! *This is the Adelphi Mall!!! It houses more than 40 storefronts (currently 46) and 5 vinyl record stores!*. 80-90% of the audio stores in Singapore set up home here in the Adelphi. The other 10-20% are littered around Singapore.
I started my audio hobby back when i was 19 years of age, in 1994. There is military conscription in Singapore for all Singapore males, and I remember when I was 19 to 21 yrs old, booking out of camp every weekend and visiting this Adelphi mall to ogle at all the hifi gear!! Even if I couldn't afford most of them, there are Free Smells! (Famous Amos?) ...and I love the smell of hifi!!
Humbly really, I wasn't aware that this is indeed the best audio-hifi mall in the world. Only until last year did my well-traveled friends from other countries told me and my fellow Singaporean friends this fact. I had always thought that the U.S., the U.K and Japan, where many audio brands originate from, would house the best comprehensive audio malls, but no, they told me. It would instead be Singapore's Adelphi Mall. Japan's AudioUnion in Ochanomizu, and Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara come closest, but objectively they still fall short in the array of brands and equipment offered. Yes the Adelphi Mall in Singapore is extremely comprehensive :-D !!!
The Adelphi Mall has been serving the audiophile community in Singapore for the past 30+ years, and it is within a 5-25minute drive from any residential homes in Singapore. For me, it is a 15minute drive :-D.
On Saturdays, the audiophiles in Singapore will often make their "pilgrimage"-like trip to this Adelphi mall :-D!!! We gather in the stores, make friends, or we would sip coffee at basement one where there are a number of drink stores and mini bistros.

Yes, Ian I have nothing but tears of joy here. You have just shown brands that 99percent of the planet will never see unless they attend a HiFi show. You have all of this in one mall and you can see it all in one day. It looks like that is an eight to ten hour day if you spend time in all of the stores or did you do this over days. I know you condensed it down, but wow. In the states we have, no state and that includes California, New York, Texas or Chicago that has anything like this, it’s incredible. You are a humanitarian for doing this for the rest of us and you are doing a contest as well, just wow. You give hours and days of your time reviewing turntables and cartridges to point people in the right direction for the money.
You are a simple but humble man and we applaud your efforts and just what you mean to the Vinyl community and Audiophiles as a whole. There is no one else doing what you are doing on RUclips and you take a hobby that many don’t understand and make it understandable. The personal sacrifice that you and your wife are making to bring this to us and the financial sacrifice is extraordinary. Let your wife and your kids know that we appreciate you and them for doing this and you are truly a humanitarian to us in the Audiophile World!!!

Yes, i did this video over six visits in fact, over two weekdays and four weekends, some i had to do re-shoots, some because the shops are just too crowded and I didn't want to intrude... what I intended to do, my plans made before i reached Adelphi, usually went out of the window :-D when I reached there! So many variables and things that happen that forces me to go for a re-visit. For example, I waited time and time again for Victor's customers to clear from this ProAc store (having private closed-door listenings), but one after another came, and Victor kept saying sorry to me, and I had revisit again and again.. this happens for other stores too. The time I took revisiting and revisiting took a toll on me and my wife, and we had to end our shoots there very often despite spending 2-3hours in the mall. And we got to go, to get back to Moko our baby girl :-D and to bring the two boys out for dinner.

God yes, whatever happened to the good old Court road? lol. Now all we have is the odd independent shop scattered around the country. Used to have the HiFI Exchange in Peterborough 3 shops at one time, till KJ west 1 took charge and filed the second hand shop with their London priced gear from Krell, Macintosh, Martin Logan, ect.

Adelphi Mall would be my Disneyland! I'm going to keep clicking my heels as many times as necessary to have a mall like this here in the States with such a plethora of stores and choices. I'd travel to any major city here and spend days on end sampling, discussing and , yes buying equipment . You've made a countless number of us both envious and jealous (but in a good way)! Brother, if you are in Singapore, just let me know, ...but here sorry to go a bit deeper and more passionate about hwat we have in Adelphi... yes BRother, you are right... you would really be usually spending days, hours, just styaing in Adelphi catching up with retailers, friends, walking from shop to shop, even bringing equipment shop to shop to test out speakers and other kit!! Most retailers are really kind!! :-D for example, Victor of AuralDesigns at Level3, allowed me TWO TIMES, to bring his ProAc Tab10s and DB1s to the David's AudioNote store to match up with his AudioNote Oto and Leben CS300Xs amps for auditioning! And, David allows his Leben to be brought down to Level1 Audio88 to be tested with the DeVore OrangUtans 0/93 and 0/96 too :-D!!!! Auditioning is fun here!!! I had to take a break halfway through the video because it was too much for my brain to absorb. I think I would need a few days in there - I want to test it all!!! I can confirm that pne is in hifi nirvana once you inside the Adelphi Mall. There is no place like it on this earth. I have been there a number of times since the late 1990's. Your jaw will just drop when you see the multitude of equipment and accessories from all corners of the globe on display. My favourite haunt is Roxy Disc House where one can find the latest audiophile recordings. Richard, its proprietor, gives great recommendations too. Hifi loving Singaporeans are so blessed to have the Adelphi Mall. The rest of us are all so jealous.

Thank you for the tour. What an incredible opportunity to see and hear all of that equipment. I wonder what the competition is like between stores, with so many options in one place. I can believe that perhaps store presentation and service can become a large factor for shoppers.

My friend in Britain (with a Leben) was considering the ProAcs a few months ago, but because the nearest ProAc dealer for him was very far away, so i helped him. I went to Victor at level3. Victor of ProAc allowed me on TWO separate TIMES to bring his ProAc Tablette 10s and DB1s over to David's store to be linked up with David's Leben CS300XS and AudioNote Oto integrateds :-D!!
And David in turn, ever allowed me to bring HIS Leben down to Level1 Audio88 store to be paired with the DeVore OrangUtans O/93 and O/96 for auditioning as well!
The goodwill and rivalry is amazing in this mall! Most of the retailers are very kind and obliging. Steven at Level2 with his PMCs and Oyaides is another top guy.
Sammy at Level4 lent me home his Avid Pulsare2 phonostage 4 years ago when we were still pretty much strangers and the trust is high.
Most retailers are top notch in their service too and very obliging :-D

Wow, just your introduction alone makes me want to board a plane, meet up with you and journey over to the Hi-Fi Mall together. So good to see you again Ian. I am following you inside as I write. I really liked the clean look of Global Audio. That is a beautiful Kronos turntable at 31:05. The AVID Aducus at 41:24 was very nice too. Wow Ian, I am left speechless for once. {smile} Honestly I am blown away by those stores and the whole Adelphi Mall. If I had a Hi-Fi mall like that I would go early on a Saturday morning and stay the day looking at everything. I brand names alone that you just introduced to me is very much appreciated. This was fantastic. You are very fortunate to live close to this audio paradise.

Hi Ian! I have tried numerous numerous times to reply to you in the comments section of the 1200 vs. Rega decks vid but haven’t been able to for some strange reason. Odd... I just wanted to thank you SOOO very much for your extremely detailed response to my question about resonant frequency and cartridge compliance, and if you took it into consideration much or mostly trusted your ears in regards to the tonearm/cartridge matching. I could not agree more with your answer! It puts me so much more at ease knowing that someone such as yourself whom I respect a great deal and reviews so much great equipment and components feels the same way. There are so many factors to consider, but in the end, trust your own ears! So true, my friend!

Yes, it was indeed a MUST visit mall for any audiophiles and vinyl lovers. I have personally visited The Adelphi when I visited Singapore from 25th May to 27th May this year. You really ARE lucky! My closet audio store is 15 minutes drive away. The second one more than 30. And to get to 5, it’s an hour already. You can get your hand on basically anything you wish for! And it was good seeing another video again. And no video is complete without Moko of course 😀

Hello Ian. Wow. What a mall!! I have died and gone to Hi-Fi heaven! Amazing place. I wish I could be there to see that. However I am enjoying my SL1200 Mkii with the MP-200 cart. The cart has broken in and sounds great. It seems to work well with the Yamaha AX900U amplifier. Next up, I am getting a pair of Martin Logan Motion 60 XT speakers come January. Just an amazing place and, given what has happened to audio retailing all over the world, something of a miracle that this place can sustain anywhere. I would guess that people must specifically visit Adelphi from all over the world. Certainly it would rather justify the air fare just to be able to audition so many brands in such close proximity. Can I ask why you think there is such a unique concentration of stores here? Best wishes.

Been to a show in Krefeld Germany and Dr Feikert had a nice turntable (amongst others) as was the L'Art du Son at €80.000 slightly out of my budget I must admit. Heard it play and omg yes it sounded great.

Hi Ian, I bought an LFD LE Signature integrated amplifier to give the Harbeth's one last try. It improved my system overall and both match up very well together. This is the best integrated amp I've owned so far. I'll keep this combination a while longer. However, I have to say those AN-K's in this video here (6:35 mark) in gloss finish look very tempting. :)

@@HiViNywschannel - Still got a lot of work to do (Audio caps do cost :-)). But at present working on using hi end caps in the preamp stage. The amp stage is almost complete. Have to make board to be bolted onto the heatsink in order to house the V-Cap CuTF (www.v-cap.com/audiotechnique-v-cap-review.php) caps and Audio Note silver foil capacitors (www.audionote.co.uk/comp/cap_paper.shtml)..
You can imagine that Audio defined Polypropylene caps used as bypass capacitors are pretty big (The bypass caps used to remove noise). So will use a board to lay Replacement Electrolytic caps in parallel with the Polypropylene caps on, and then connected to the preamp board. The negative thing is now poorly recorded LP's DO SHOW UP FLAWS! And you find that the original components helped to hide such flaws. Well recorded LP's are amazing.At mo the NAD sound is beautiful!! noise floor has noticeably dropped.The bass is something else! Treble is sharp. My AIWA speakers are stressed. They can't fully handle the more weightier bass.
Mundorf Caps I've installed take time to open up. But when they opened up after some weeks, it was an O..M..G. moment! When I increase the volume, its unbelievable that amp is only 30 watts per channel..
I looked at the old NAD and cannot believe what its reproducing. The power stage will be rebuilt. I'm testing out some Duelund Hook-up Wire which has gr8 raves on its use as an interconnect / speaker wires (positive-feedback.com/audio-discourse/duelund-coherent-audio-dca-series-cables-part-1/). But I'm looking for one to be used as low level signals inside the amp.
Overall the sound is more defined.

The plus side is most of them 'could' be replaced with superior polypropalene caps, but their price/size limits especialy in solid state gear. The biggest ones I use so far are 0.15uF Mundorf Silver/Gold in the amp stage..

Technics SL-Q202 1981 model becuse it's upgradeable the tonearm the head-shell is universal unlike in my sl-bd22 which is P-mount only
but not complainning for 30 years and still keep going strong
And i'm about to be with 2 Technics tts ..lol

Yes, I got my ATC scm 10 nearly 2 decades ago from here, indeed it's one of my favorite place. Btw my ATC enhanced with Davis Kevlar cone tweeeter and Jensen capacitor, I am still enjoying...

They have a shop there called Simply Music, that is where I got some of my 12” second hand records way back 2012, but they’re in pristine condition. And yeah, the shops there are bleeding with super hifi audio equipment. Makes my heart palpitate whenever I go there 😍😍😍
Yes Buddy! Simply Music is showcased at 34:43... you can see Violet the lady staff inside.... and Denny the boss had opened up a used hifi store just 2 weeks ago..you can see Denny and this storefront at 34:01😄.
So cool! Found this mall when I first came over for the Grand Prix, as was between my hotel and the racetrack. A real find! Now when I come, I always make a point of coming here (and the MINT toy museum!). Not sure if I just missed it before, but on my last visit found a few second hand record shops downstairs too.

And yes! you are right: a few second hand record stores downstairs...the best of them is Memory Lane...they keep churning up with lots and lots of crates...jazz, rock, etc etc...just so many!!! and the prices are great!!

Thanks to your channel, became aware of Audio Union, so when I was in Tokyo, hassled my friends to take me there. They had to physically pull me out!!!
All i can say is wow .Wish i had a mall dedicated to stereo equipment here in Florida like the Adelphi Mall.....bet you can get a great deal on anything stereo related . great video.thanks
But Ian has stated that equipment prices are lower in Japan than Singapore. But, of course, if you buy equipment in Japan, it is 100 volts, and you'll need a voltage transformer

I walked past that mall a couple of times, during my last holiday in Singapore - I think I'd be divorced by now, had I been tempted to go into any of the wonderful shops you have shown us!
