The current method of just throwing money at the problem isn't working as evidenced by the insanely high suicide rate among veterans. We need to start teaching veterans how to still have productive lives in spite of any injuries they might have. Rewarding them for building a new life rather than keeping them terrified of loosing their medical coverage if they happen to find a way to make money once being stamped with the "disabled" label. In the long run, such a system would save a ton of money while simultaneously improving the quality of life of our veterans.

Think of the billions of dollars we allocate to foreign aid-Ukraine, Israel, and support for migrants at our southern border. Yet, some are considering cutting disability compensation for veterans-the very people who risked their lives to keep our country free and safe?
Consider the life of a disabled veteran: they enlisted or were commissioned out of a desire to defend our nation. Along the way, they suffered wounds or developed conditions that permanently altered their lives, limiting their ability to pursue happiness and opportunities. Now, some are entertaining the idea of stripping away the compensation they rightfully earned? What’s next-cutting benefits for the families of fallen veterans?
Even from a civilian perspective, the injustice is clear. Imagine you’re a computer programmer at a tech company. One day, while walking through a construction zone at work, a steel girder falls and severs your arm. Wouldn’t you expect compensation from your employer? You would likely receive a multi-million-dollar settlement-far more than what most veterans receive through disability benefits.
Veterans’ disability compensation isn’t charity. It’s a moral and contractual obligation we must honor. These benefits are a small price to pay for the sacrifices made by those who have defended our freedoms.

Tough one. Lack of opportunities elsewhere make it hard to prioritize vets. The benefits offered are substantial, in education, health and home buying programs. Regular folk can't afford it for themselves. Then gov't benefits, police and firefighters, public officials. Corrupt and otherwise. Asking people with nothing left to give to those, who are given exclusive advantages across areas of life the rest of us can't earn with all the hard work we do? ... I think we need to get rid of the distinctions. Everyone gets on board, when there's room for everyone.

If these people aren’t happy about veterans vote better.

Veterans should get what they have been promised and deserve. I totally support that. I do have a major problem with the veterans who are claiming disability and it has absolutely nothing to do with their service, or they really are not disabled. I met one guy who is “100% disabled” because of his back yet he runs his own farm lifting bails of hay, feed for the animals and all of the other heavy tasks that go along with farming. Another guy I know is 100% disabled because he ate himself into diabetes. He was in supply chain, no combat so ptsd didn’t cause him to eat like this, but somehow that’s military related? He served 4 years when he was young, he’s in his late fifty’s. Now tax payers are paying his mortgage. BS. 4 years of service without injury does not qualify you to have tax payers pay you for the rest of your life and pay for a free home. Then I see tunnels to towers buying injured vets homes that they truly need, why is it that people who are fine are getting mortgages paid for but the guys who are in need have to rely on tunnels to towers to provide for them? Makes no sense.
