    Late to the party, helpful video Thanks. I've just done this - you've already got a Left Hand matchmaker adapter fitted on your Right Hand lever, so the paddle sits OK. However those of us with 1 X drivetrain would normally have only a Right Hand matchmaker adapter which leaves the paddle a bit too far into the grips. For best fit you need a matchmaker L/H adapter as you have. I needed to buy one.

      I have now but my AXS on an Epic Evo with a mixed shimano drivetrain. I bought a Bike Yoke adapter for that side and it works well. Have to buy a left for the right side so it is not too far away from the grips.

      Yes this is true, I was skeptical at first but love the electronic drivetrain now. I have mechanical on my enduro bike, it works but it is not as slick.

      Thanks Alex I have tried it now and even though I flipped the controls to the same as my mechanical it is hard to get used to it. I like the shifter though and will keep it on and reverse the up and down.

    I realized that if I place the stock paddle more “under” the bar, my thumb is in a neutral position, which I prefer.
    I tried the rocker paddle but didn’t like it as much. I found there was some free play in the button pressing whereas the stock paddle has tighter tolerances.

    • @jaselikesbikes
      @jaselikesbikes  2 года назад

      Very interesting, I didn’t notice the tighter tolerances. I think it is good to have a different choice, I still don’t think it is perfect but it is better than my mechanical shifter that is for sure.

    The stock rocker paddle allows the thumb to shift up and down with less movement and to keep the fingers around the bar and brakes. With the upgraded rocker paddle, the thumb has to travel more and seems less comfortable.
    I guess many people don’t like change and prefer to go back to the old manual feel of shifting.

    • @jaselikesbikes
      @jaselikesbikes  3 года назад

      I think it is personal preference. For how cheap the “upgrade” is it is worth trying the alternative paddle.

    Great video. I'm a "thumb/finger" shifter, not thumb/thumb. IMO neither is "ideal" but I like the old style better and is way better for thumb/finger actuation. To me it is more like the old cable operation. I think Sram has missed the mark on both styles. I have half a mind to make my own ;-)

      Thanks. Yes it would be great to have a few options to work out your preference. With 3D printing I am sure someone must have come up with an alternative.

    Had you ever experienced shifting issues after your AXS install with your gears? Like a little skipping? Had the shop dial in my adjustments and wondering if perhaps I still need to micro adjust the lower three/four cogs (smallest). Lite skipping 3 down to 2 looks like. Will have to get that paddle so It is more natural to all the years of riding. Mine came reverse shifting from what I'm use to. So need to download the app, so I can reverse the mapping direction of shifting. Thanks for the video, I have heard of this new option but hadn't seen it yet and easy to install.

    • @jaselikesbikes
      @jaselikesbikes  3 года назад +2

      Hi Tom. I didn’t have any issues after installation but I have had to micro adjust a couple of times. Maybe as the new chain stretched you might need to do this. Strangely I have my shifter the reverse of my analogue eagle, I did try to change but after 6 months or so I got into the groove. It is a cheap easy option to give it a go. Good luck.

    Why do people call this an "upgrade"? It's clearly a downgrade, less ergonomic hand position is now required to shift....this makes no sense.

    • @jaselikesbikes
      @jaselikesbikes  2 года назад +1

      I think it is just user preference. It is pretty cheap so why not try it and the original paddle wasn’t ideal in many cyclists eyes.
