Know your own game, if you have a repeatable action and dont mess with it on the course you will reach your maximum potential with what you have. My 14 year old hits it's miles but gets killed every weekend by seniors who are 60 yards behind him, they strive to get the best out of what they have, he strives to get the best out of what he is not yet capable off.
Sam's takeaway/backswing are Restaurant Quality. I think that accounts for much of his consistency.
I"m a 10.1 with this exact ball flight. I'm heading out for a comp in 3 hours.
Perfect timing with this video.
Truly inspirational. This round was the epitome of Playa golf.
Very nice round Sam; and good on your Playa-in-chief for your fine mentorship!
Hands down, best Lithuanian golfer on RUclips! #1 playa
Yeps, ... remember this King gentlemen from the previous vid and the easy swing is just golden. Very cool to see. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
This is a perfect example of knowing your game and playing your way around the course.
Great video! Not making many mistakes is why he's a 10. Solid solid short game that day gave him the 5. Nicely done! BTW, when does the Old Course video post? I'm on pins and needles waiting...
Brilliant video. Long live the King. What a killer short game.
Best golf channel on YT, thanks playa.
This guy also has an absolutely beautiful swing. What a playa
Love vids with Sam, now subbed to his channel.
Thanks my man! Plenty to come…
I play with people who do this. They embrace their fade / slice and it repeats and is reliable. In fast, summer conditions a fade will settle much more quickly than a draw too. On a good ball-striking round they can go low.
Tempo is perfect - wish I could do that!
Played 15 holes today (4 degress and windy in Scotland!) in 2 over - tried to swing with Sam's tempo all the time and hit loads of pure shots, probably the single most important thing an amatuer can do... Cheers👊👊
This is definitely a man who knows his game, WADDAPLAYA
My style is similar. Choked down driver with fade. I only drive it about 200 yds max but it’s reliable. Not quite to this boss’s level yet ! Nice Playing!
Please tell him to never worry about trying to stop fading....his form and tempo is great, he's playing great... pleasure to watch or partner with I'm sure.
Not that anyone asked... but IMHO The last thing he ought to do is shred his swing and rebuild it like I did this year... It was painful beyond what I can write here!! Swing your swing
Baseball grip gang?? Smooth swing!
Sam is a Baus.
Great round and i bet he is a pleasure to have a round of golf with. Nice chilled dude!
I'm sitting at about 15.5, so know bad shots are part of my game for now. A few things really challenge my attitude on the golf course... slow play, losing a ball in the fairway after a well-struck tee shot, three-putts , and having to chip twice to get on a green. The first two can't be helped so I try to shake it off, but the second pair are unforced errors that just highlight the need for more practice; short game is key. Where in teh US can I get some of those Wadda Playa drugs you mentioned? LOL
Great round. I'd love to know The King's carry with his drive. His swing was super smooth and effortless.
A controlled fade is more precise than a controlled draw over many repetitive shots. However, a controlled draw is also a great way to play a golf course. Controlled trajectory is the key.
The key to success is to control your shots. Does not matter if draw or fade, as long as you can control where your ball will end up. Thats the hard part 😁
Loved watching this Sam. Well played.
The man
@@GolfSidekick was he using white castle tees?
I do the same grip down, tee down and fade it I to play.
It seems we short changed Sam. I think he shot +5 Sorry Sambo!
Sam him in the background on your round out there!! Now in his own video really cool!! He has a smooth swing for sure!! 🏌♂⛳
What a playa!! Love that he just plays HIS game! Are those Takomo 101 irons?
when is the Old Course video coming out Playa?
At 6:40, Matty is playing around with his trolly. 😂😂
Nice! The King kills it!
Looks like he’s driving 260-270 effortlessly - that’ll get it done! My not so power fader is more like 220 - so I really fight to straighten that bad boy out. When NOT to embrace the fade.
Play your fade and play the tees that work for 220 yards off the tee
A consistent shot is the most important thing. If that is a low spin draw, a high spin fade or a straight shot right really doesn't matter that much. As long as you know where it goes and you can drive it over like 220 yards, you can get a pretty damn low handicap.
I fluctuate between an 8-10 handicap. This is similar to my game. Though I think he has a more consistent short game
I think he is comfy on his home course.
Definitely short game will bring you down from 8-10....into the low singles
does gripping down on the club only benefit golfers that hit a fade?
Sam I am, great round, love the “& you can too!”
I get so hype when the birdie music comes in. Waddaplaya
I have a fade because i swing over the top but have somehow gained enough clubface control to reduce my slice.
Should i keep trying to eliminate my over the top move in my downswing, which I've always seen as a flaw, or just accept thats what i do?
My back wont work. My neck wont work. My turn is pure shite. I've hit that same shot since 1995. Tee up on the right, aim down the left and hit a little block cut into the fairway. The only thing I changed was learning how to hit a draw with my mid irons to a left flag I fancied. Keep fading Bro, perfect that with the driver and 3 wood and you are money!
I will say, I think choking down a little less would get the club path a little more around and straighten the ball flight out. It's consistent, though, so probably right that it's not worth the bother.
baseball grip on every club for Sam or just driver?
When are we getting the Old Course vid Matty Boom Boom🎉
That man lives in tempo town, what a man!
R2D2 going to town on hole 10. 😃
It is a different grip, but it seems to work well for him.
This game is alot like mine, but more consistent.
I think for this round yes sir....fluctuations will hapen but if he does this 8 time out of 20, he is a 4-5 handicap
I remember, Jack Nicklaus doing quite well with a fade.
WhadaFader
Pretty scary on #10 when the poltergeist took control of the cart, thank goodness there were no other further instances of the haunting.
solid
Ten fingers grip
6:59, but he hits almost every shot solid.
Classic baus... play your game
is he playing with P770/P790s?
There are no pictures on a score card, all that matters is the number at the bottom.
No OB's or lost balls. That's big when you're trying to go from double to single handicap.
Huge brother
In my mind there's 2 tiers - mistake avoidance and shot making. Can ezpz break 80 with just the mistake avoidance mentality... Keep balls in play, 2nd shots need to be near the green and you need a reliable short game. Tier 2 is same as tier 1 but hit the ball a bit further and hit more greens, ideally more than 11... Par & better becomes a reality. whaddaplaya
Agreed
This player is a 10? His approaches are better than mine and I’m 4
If you're looking for people with the propensity for entering into negative death spirals, look no further than Scotland during the bleak midwinter. It's the first thing you'll be told on the website of the Scottish Tourist Board.
First!
"He doesn't shot shape, hes not a Bubba Watson type player" xD Classic example - I don't know if I've ever seen Bubba hit a draw. If anything he his a mega slice
What does it matter if Sam doesn't have that extra 20 yards on a tee shot? Sam is playing his game and using his strengths.
There's still nothing sweeter than watching the boring path of a low baby draw off the tee with the big dog
I can attest to that. Used to be a power fader
Find a shape
Keep it safe
I've noticed that neither of you make what most would regard as a "full" backswing. There's no "club pointing at the target" at the top of the backswing.
I guess less distance on the way down, less can go wrong. Commit fully to the downswing. Accept the distance that that generates.
Don't try and hit your 7 iron further. Use a 6 iron.
Playa you got it right.
When i was a kid, there was always nonsense in Golf Digest (evil) about at the top of the swing the club should be parallel and point at target or whatever they were saying, so I realy tried to model that.
But working with a coach, I understood, as soon as I go too long, then I either overextend my upper body and collapse into the left leg OR I hinge my wrist just a little bit. The over extension and hinge come at the same time to me, as it feels like I'm getting more out of my swing, more distance....
But if I stop my swing short, i stop the over extension at the top and by default, if I stop short, I can't hinge that wrist to get parallel or below.
And as you say, less can go wrong. It is MUCH easier for me to sync up the rest of my body instead of lagging so far behind with my body. When I go too far, hinge the wrist, then syncing back up and having a square face is impossible. I don't know how I played golf like that for so long...just have good hand eye co ordination. By stopping short, I have brought my bad days down to mediocre days.
Now I don't fear those days where you think you can't swing a club anymore - I just feel like I'm hitting half swings and I can't screw it up.
He gripped down 3 inches while driving? Man…
And your point
playing to a fade is one thing...what I am seeing here is playing to a slice.....fades don't move 40 yards to the right....change that to an actual fade and he would drop below 80 easily.
Lol not all of his shots were a slice. I'd say a few of his bad shots were. Would you tell someone that naturally plays a draw that they always play a hook if their bad shot is a hook?
So you didn’t watch the video
Most drives were fades That started in the left rough and found the left side or center of the fairway . His irons had even less fade . Of course a few went right rough but he never lost one ball. Watch the video again since he clearly broke 80
