    They are old lenses, lots of things could had gone wrong in that time. My Konica are still painfully sharp, also at infinite. But I notice they are more depended on performing with how much light it gets. Dont underexpose them.

    Congrats on the new crib and thanks for the vid. In your estimation, hope does the Konica 40mm f1.8 compare to the 50mm f1.4 on the character scale?

      The 50 1.4 is more reliable, more predictable with infinitely better control of aberrations and other optical imperfections when shooting in tough lighting.
      The 40 is a bit of a wild card, slightly moody and unpredictable, but I loved it for its diminutive size and it's versatility, alongside the great sharpness and awesome tones it produces.

    Wow, so interesting. I've never used an Oly but I do happen to have exactly the same versions of the Pentax and Konica ones. I don't know the condition of your glass; my Pentax was purchased in mint condition and the Konica had been used and abused over the past half century or so but I cleaned it, relubricated the helicoid and adjusted infinity focus. I'll need to take these two for a spin one day and compare them side by side. Despite both Pentax and Konica being great brands with good quality control, their lenses can still manifest variance between individual units.

    Congrats on the new apartment! As you were telling me, it does seem that our copies of the Pentax produce different results, yours is much softer and has more chromatic aberration. Maybe one of the elements has come a little loose? Or, most probably, just some inconsistency in the quality control.

      My copy was recently cla'd by a professional, so I doubt it. It's in excelletn shape, both mechanically and optically.

    I picked up a copy of the Konica 40mm on your recommendation, and it definitely met the high standard you set. It was right there with my SMC Takumar 55mm as my favourites. Then I recently picked up a like-new Minolta MC Rokkor-PF 55mm f1.7 for the equivalent of $12 USD. It had decent reviews on Pentax Forums, where I tend to rely on getting accurate reviews of vintage lenses. I don't know if you have tried that lens, and maybe I managed to luck out with a great copy, but I am absolutely blown away by this lens. No noticeable CA. Very sharp. Great contrast and colours. If you have that lens, I would be interested to see what you think compared to the Olympus.

      I don't own that Rokkor you mention, but I as well have heard nothing but good things about MC Rokkors.

      @@1kwords Yes, I have 5 (28, 35, 45, 50, and now 55), and I really like them. The 45mm was my favourite until picking up the Konica 40mm that you reviewed. I have found them to typically be a bit softer than Konicas, but this 55mm seems to be much sharper than usual.
      BTW - is there a link somewhere to purchase your book? I don't see any links on this video, and your FB page shows the preview but no links to buy. Or maybe I missed it. Thanks.

    Not to push you further down the rabbit hole 😉… You might need to try the Konica 57mm f1.4 and the Minolta 58mm f1.4 as well as the plethora of 55mm f1.4 (I have the Chinon) as the background blur is pretty special and the center sharpness is quite good wide open. These lenses have an even more creamy bokeh due to the optical design and focal length. They are great portrait lenses and are extremely sharp around f8. Great work with the comparisons!

      Thanks for you suggestion, but I've since given up on vintage lenses. They were (extremely) fun for a good few years, but I've decided to go for practical vs fun and I am now shooting modern, native, auto-focus lenses on a Fuji X-T2.

    Hello! Nice video! I was thinking about to get a pentax, and after i watched some of your videos, i've decided to buy an olympus 50mm f1.4 and f1.8 instead. I got them recently, and i realized that i can't find any adapter, that could help me put these lenses on my nikon f body (d5200). Do you know about any solution how could i use them on my camera? Is it possible anyhow? Thank you in advance

    • @1kwords
      @1kwords 8 месяцев назад

      Nikon DSLRs are possibly the worst choice as far as adapting vintage lenses. Due to the flange distance it's practically impossible to adapt most lenses. And if you can you are usually left without the ability to focus to infinity.
      There are *some* adapters that feature an optical element that allows for infinity focus but they are generally expensive and degrade the image a lot.
