Devastating Argentine attack at Fitzroy (Falklands 1982)

- On 8 June 1982, two companies of the Welsh Guards Battalion were sent aboard RFA Sir Galahad from San Carlos to Fitzroy in order to join the first two companies unloaded on the previous night at Bluff Cove, just to the north. Poor coordination and other problems led to a delay and the Welsh Guards were still onboard the ship at about 2PM. Having been spotted by Argentine observers, they soon became the target for a flight of FAA's A-4 Skyhawks. The attack resulted in the biggest lost of lie for the British in the entire Falklands War.

Most assets in this reenactment are not 100% historically accurate. Sir Galahad and Sir Tristram are represented by somewhat similar (although larger) supply ships. Argentine Skyhawks used here are A-4E models with the hump while originally, they were B models with no hump. Daggers are represented by Mirage IIIs. HMS Plymouth was represented by a Leander class frigate. Aircraft skins and serial numbers are mostly not accurate either. These are not mistakes but simply platform limitations. Thank you for your understanding.
The Argentine Air Force and in fact all its Armed Forces showed they are no push over and very capable . As a Brit though im glad we won , sad though at all the loses of life from this Conflict but the Falkland Islands wish to be British and as long as that is the case . Long shall it be . Respect to that Argentine Forces , they was doing their job much like the Men and Women of the British Armed Forces and im sad at all their loses . This from an Ex-RAF member ....my loyalties are for our own Forces of cause but I have no ill will towards the Argentines .
Always amazed by the skill and accuracy of the Argentine pilots during this conflict.
Thanks for doing this great video. Argentine air assets were very brave and determined in this war.
Gloria eterna a nuestros pilotos que dejaron su vida por nuestra patria 🇦🇷❤️
Whats remarkable about this air attack is that the entire thing was filmed so this recreation is extremely accurate
I was fortunate to visit Falklands years ago and toured the various battle grounds and Port Stanley. It was a wonderful experience but also realized how rugged and harsh the terrain was. While standing in the cold wind staring at the remaining skeleton of a downed Argentinian helicopter, and listening to tour guides explaining British forces' strategy of approaching Port Stanley, how the various battles took place including the tragedy illustrated in this video, I was wondering why people killed each others over such a remote island where only the penguins enjoy. felt bad for the soldiers on both sides, doing their duties just for the ego of the politicians
Those Argentine pilots represented quite well. It would have been a more harrowing experience for the British in that campaign, if they had not had the good fortune of being hit by unexploded bombs. An excellent selection for treatment by Showtime112.
They fought against Sea Dart, Sea Slug,, Sea Wolf, Sea Cat, Rapier, Blow pipe missile systems, also Sidewinder L missiles from Sea Harriers. Mavericks!
Thanks for this👍 we operated A4 Skyhawks with our RNZAF.. A friend of mine was Tactical Radar Operator on HMS Invincible during the Falklands War he didn't know if he was going to live or die.. scary!.... We have a GR3 Harrier in a museum here in NZ..cheers from down under 👍🇳🇿✈️
The matching of the game footage with historical video film and photos is really good! gives it more of a documentary vibe 👏
Odličan video. Hrabrost argentinaca je velika. Zbog loše opreme su imali puno manji uspjeh nego što su zaslužili hrabrošću.
Fascinating.
The painting of the planes is right..........the serial numbers are on the mark.....very good video!!!!
I'm impressed. CG opens another world of historical understanding as demonstrated in this program. No other reconstructed format can match. Well done.
Great video as usual Showtime. Can only imagine how terrifying this would have been.
Glory, honor and respect for those who have fallen heroically in combat. Great video, cheers from Argentina.
Gracias por recrear tan bien el ataque a Fitz Roy del 8 de junio de 1982. Nuestros pilotos son coraje y huevos! Honor a ellos por siempre. Las Malvinas son y seran argentinas!! Va mi like
An excellent video, showing another chapter of history fought in the skies
thanks for doing this video, it's an honor for us to see that other countries recognize the expertise of our pilots!
