I think it's just some break in oil and rings seating, there was almost no smoke by the time it was being loaded. Easy trick for the header test to find a dead cylinder is just a spray bottle of water...
Randy, I share your affliction of big feet (size 14). That, and my 6'3" frame preclude the operation of a lot of cool cars with narrow foot wells and cramped ergonomics. The Brubaker Box, with its awkward ingress and egress and unnaturally elevated pedal set-up take the challenge to the next level. At least you're not a geezer like me. This car is most definitely for the younger and more agile amongst us.
Same. I've got my favorite driving shoes. My dimensions are 6'6" size 14 feet. My 1985 Pontiac Fiero fit me like a glove, oddly enough. Easier to get in and out of than a 1994 Corvette LT-1 I once had. Back problems caught up with me so low-slung vehicles are no longer on the menu for my old *ss.
On the road I find the front bumper looks great in relation to the rest of that gorgeous car. Up close in an enclosed garage setting it didn't make much sense to me. It lacked continuity from the rest of the car. What a huge difference after the environment expanded. Great work you guys! I am totally impressed. Sea Bass is my kind of people. Cheers!
Randy, the Brubaker Box sure has come along way since you unveiled it Sébastien has really come through for you, so nice to see it finally driving and from the sound of your voice I could feel you 😀 grining from ear to ear all the way up in Chico when Sébastien took it for a test drive!!!
Randy , Another shot of fire truck on ( exploring Alabama ) you tube page .look for Banned Nak bike man crashes parade. Go to 18.19 vw startes.. Ha Ha Ha! Checking the pipes for heat reminds me of taking my friend’s tv to the repair shop in Esfahan in 1978 for repairs. The shop owner tested the circuits by touching contacts with his fingers to see if he got shocked, if he did then that circuit was good! He must have gotten zapped 20-30 times before he found the problem. He may not have been able to afford a VOM but his knowledge of electronics was amazing!
The bumpers, number one complaint ( but you get use to it and become just noise). Make the bumper as smooth and clean as possible and have some on airbrush a woodgrain texture to it. On the shifter stick, cut it shorter and rethread to where the shifter with knob is about the height of your seats. I have some suggestions on getting a little more space with pedals ( I’m 6’1” , 230lbs, size 11 shoe ).
Randy, Did you see my comment about another vw fire truck looks like Yours - yt or someone to it down-- On yt the city of anniston Ala Parade has vw fire truck like yours go to 42.54 it starts thanks Mike please comment back so I know you got this and I will leave you along
I’m not sure if the exhaust will stay or go just yet. Need to fit the rear bumper plank and see how it all looks. I’ve not driven it yet, I want to get the pedals, shifter and steering set properly first. With my big feet it’s really clumsy to try to work it all as it is.
@beatglauser vor 1 Sekunde Honestly, maybe it is not original without it, but I personally think this bumper looks hidious. I bet removing it and adding a fiberglass lower part would make a huge step forward in apearance. If it was made in a way that it could be converted back I would surely go that road.
So many of the VW based kit cars suffer from the same issue. Namely, the designer/stylist draws out his vision and then turns it into fiberglass and only then does he try to fit a full sized American into it. The access to the driver's and passenger's seat is absurd.
Wow!
What a cool iddy biddy van
Super neat design and VW power
Who wouldn't want one? I want one!
Enjoy the rest of this restoration ❤️😎
Looks like an A.M.C product
Front signals are from a Hornet.
It's like a Scooby mobile... I like it! That engine sounds pretty punchy... hope it stops smoking.
That thing looks so badass!
Love it , brings back lots of VW memories when a kid building bahas etc. , looking forward to seeing it finished ,thx

It looks so good driving along and sounds excellent too.
I wish the whole thing was bigger; the size of an SUV. What a genius design.
wonderful to see another one on the road !!

groovy look to it....reminds me of an 80s hijet
Congratulations! 🤠👍
And when do you get to drive?
Stayin tuned! 👍👍👍👍
Well done to you (& Sebastian) All the small bits will take time but seeing it go was great.
So cool man! Great to see running and rolling. Of course stopping as well! That interior is a clean slate for some swanky ideas.
Whoo Hoo Adrenaline rush when it went down the street on its own power! 👍
Doug DeMuro needs to do a review of the Brubaker Box Minivan with all its quirks and features🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Very Soylent Green (1973) which, incidentally, is set in the year 2022.
what are those tail lights from? it's really cool seeing it go down the road; stands out from all the appliances parked in the neighborhood.
240Z?

Ha! At 6’5” and size 15 feet, I understand your pain. I can’t drive many Porsche’s...

I’ve already crossed that territory! Updates to come!
It's alive!!!!
That moved along very quickly, if all projects moved from a shell to the road we would get bored quick.
I hope you can keep those EMPI gauges....and those pedals sure look uncomfortable.
Oh definitely, the gauges will stay, and the pedals will be modified to be hopefully easier to reach

1. Are you waiting to drive it...or didntou drive off camera?
2. Is that exhaust design what was commonly used? Looks low.

Is it idling a little too high?
Maybe…this is just the first blast around the block. Fine tuning is still to be done!

Never!! The curious floating boards must remain!
Could be bad piston rings.

lol
I would like to find the molds for that. I would like to build one from scratch. I wonder if anyone still produces kits for vw.
There is a company that has the molds for most of the parts, but I don’t believe they are in production at this time.
