I've spent a good deal of time with these speakers, and they are, by far, my favorite sub $100 speakers. They sound good no matter where you put them. I even took them outside, and they great.
Thanks for this review Randy! I just bought a set of these for my rears on your recommendation. I needed something under 7lbs for the speaker stands I have for my behind-couch rears. These are now competing with Carver AL-III fronts, but they're doing it! Really surprising at how good these sound at the price, and they look great!
These are ghetto fabulous! My Harman Kardon makes these speakers pull down they draws! They are magnificent! For a yard and some change? I needs another set for my rig in the living room for the rears. The sound stage is awesome, especially when you already have a super tweeter in the rig. Hip hop certified! 5 stars
Love your content. Just recently discovered your channel. Thank you for this and many reviews. I had been rocking a set of Polk RTI4s for many years on my desktop. Running off the B channel of my vintage 1994 RCA 120+120 watts integrated stereo amp. Original floor standing 12s on the A channel and they are still pumping flawless. Polks in their age started experincing voice coil/dust cap rattle at certain volumes and tones so it was just time to replace. Landed a pair of these Neumis for about 100 bucks and WOW...they throw down better than i could imagine. They have a very good, neutral, but not muddy sound. The Polks always had a very strong Mid and bright Treble even when EQ flattened. Stereo field is great. Imaging and instrument detail not as good as the Polks but nothing terrible. They also look better than the old early 2000s silver paint scheme the Polks had. They sound better with evey passing minute of playing. So as another fellow speaker and music lover, thank you!
I bought the Neumi BS5 Dec 2021. Finally got the best small bookshelf speakers. Thumping bass drum. Clarity and great treble. Had bought and returned 4" Micca MB42X. They are great but lack bass.
Your recent post about the Sony speakers being on sale reminded me that these speakers have been on my Amazon wish list since this review and your under $100 speaker shootout. I tend towards front ports because the rooms in my 125 year old house are tight, and the description of it's sound was appealing to me. Just purchased them and I hope I did it correctly to give you the Amazon credit. Looking forward to hearing them. They're replacing some cheap & ubiquitous Sony SS B1000's in a bedroom setup but I'll try them on my main system for fun.
I run mine with a Topping PA3 on a desk at work. Nowhere near any walls. I absolutely love them. Added a $100 sub and that was it...end game for work lol.
Good review, I agree on all counts. And I also noticed that slight rollback in the upper mids that you mentioned. I would also recommend the Micca OoOs in the sub $100 category. The bass response might be just slightly less, though still pretty amazing for twin 3" woofers. But it has those dynamics in the upper mids that this speaker so slightly lacks. I was A-B'ing the two last night, and when used with a sub, I prefer the Miccas by a slight margin. However, the Miccas will not play as loud as these, so that could be a determining factor.
Thanks bro, I was ready to get the Rockville Rockshelfs until I stumbled upon your 5 sub100$ Speaker Battle Video. The Rockville are like 35$ cheaper but they are unported, plus I couldn'T find unbiased reviews they were always from some guy that worked for Rockville.
hey CAM, it would be really nice if you could make more comparisons to higher cost products to show where budget products shine. you mentioned how these BS5's did somethings better than speakers over $200, but you didn't elaborate on what they did better. these little things might be exactly what's needed for someone to realize they can save $$$ for other items needed because a cheaper speaker does better with the particular niche feature / function they desire. many thanks!!!
The bass is good but the treble is not clear and musical, but it is truly built well. Had the onyx studio 1 and had a much richer room filling sound. Cannot really hear the dialogue clear or people talking unless you postion yourself close to it. I recommend the emotiva b1+, JBL a130 or wharfedale diamond 12. Currently have the neumi bs5 Paired with a fosi bt20a-s amp not sure if adding a dac would make it sound good.
I really do appreciate you doing these videos I just recently found you and I really like the content and atmosphere that you create, and I really like the reviews themselves! I actually buy all my audio speakers and amps ext from reviews... Thanks I have a pair of these on the way lol I bought the moukey 4.2.1 kinda off of a review of yours and I was a little bit disappointed with the volume it's super clear just not a lot of volume, but you said that it would fill a very small room but wouldn't fill a medium size at all so you nailed it down... Thanks
This video reminds me of my youth. High school days. The washed-out brights. The cheap, but okay speakers. The fact that Randy was just figuring out his style. Script on cards, which equate to “wing it”. So cool, and warm.
Any chance you'll review the Neumi CS5? Curious to know how their choice to rear port the center affects speaker matching in a surround setup and placement.
@Randy. I was getting my hopes up for this speaker as I am looking for a decent pair for my computer system. While I do have the Sony SSCS5's, the problem is that that it has a rear port and I need a speaker that I can put right up against the wall. These looked promising in terms of size and that it has front ports, but then you said that placing them up against the wall affected the midrange, and not in a good way. Bummer, as I cannot change that situation. My desk is up against the wall and that wall is where the speakers have to go. So, that being said, what IS a good set of speakers (under $250) that sounds good right up against the wall? Again, keep in mind that it has to have a front port, or no port.
hello, i've recently purchased these and they seem to be great so far. however, my question is would the elac sub1010 pair well or would it over power the neumi's. Btw, I really enjoy your channel!
You know the last thing I need is a new set of speakers🤣 bc I have a couple of great sets of floor standers for full systems in different locations within the home (lucky to be in a decent size house, but I don’t have any small inexpensive bookshelf types, except crappy ones that don’t get used. They used to do computer sound duty. Not good. So the BS5 is what I’m missing .. Since I watched this video, I’m really wanting a pair of these to wire to a Douk M1 Pro that I was thinking about picking up for a portable streamer by employing my old iPhone 6s that has a recently installed new high capacity battery to get more years out of it. My cheap audio man version of a wi-fi and bluetooth DAC solution..🤣🤣
@@moniack Well I don’t know about Atmos, but the last thing in the world I probably need right now is a pair of stereo speakers. but I would really love to have a couple of small inexpensive portable units for moving around with a little class D mini amp and my phone, so I’m still tossing the idea around of getting these .. they seem like the best choice for the least amount of money. G.
Question Randy. Would you use any of the $100 to $300 range speakers you've auditioned for Dolby Atmos? I just wonder if you've tried in a set up for Atmos. I'm curious about the nuemi, Sony, Emotiva, or Kef. Frankly there's a few others you said that I thought might sound good as atmos speakers. Thank you for your videos.
In my country, the BS5 is almost same price as JBL A130 with shipping and import tax. Do you think I should get A130 instead? My only concern is I will be using these on desktop, the small size and front port of the BS5 are big advantage for me.
I am seriously considering these speakers, i have the Andrew Jones Center channel but i think that the series Is now discontinued, so i need so ething that Sort of marched the timbre of those speakers and doesn't cost me an arm and a leg. I wonder if anyone has both speakers
I am running Elac B6.2 for L/R and Micca MB42X-C for center. Don't have space for Elac C5.2 or C6.2 so tempted to get that Neumi CS5 for larger driver and tweeter to get closer to Elacs but not be as massive as the Elac centers. Might try them out!
96 euro is the cost without shipping on amazon.de, but "This item cannot be shipped to your selected delivery location. Please choose a different delivery location."
I don’t get it; I’m stumped ??!!! Why make a little Class D amplifier without an RCA output needed for a powered sub, but then make another 2.1 amplifier that has an RCA out for a powered sub, but also has an extra 100 watt amp built into it for a passive sub, and so a smaller 2-channel amp, AND include the RCA out for the powered sub !?? Makes no sense !! Inexpensive passive subs rated for 100 w don’t seem easy to find.. The RCA out needs to be on the 2.0 amplifiers !!! 2.0 +0.1 !!!
@@cheapaudioman Randy, I’m just not sure the best way to go about it. I only want to do it once. Btw, I have some Polks, and even after a crossover redo, I think Polk sounds veiled in general; EQ can fix it for the most part, but anyway they are my go to floorstanders for sub optimal source quality material, as they are very forgiving. what amp are you paring them with?
BS probably stands for Bookshelf Speaker!! Great speaker overall love the bass these guys produce . Definitely buying their next product

With the exception of the cabinet shape/design, the front baffle reminds me of the Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 which was a true overachiever.
I can't wait to do my first Warfedale review.

B is bookshelf...S for maybe satellite or stereo and 5 for 5"
The Neumi BS5 is now at 109.99 dls, the (powered) Neumi BS5P is at 129.99
