- NRM owned 60103 Flying Scotsman pauses at platform 7 Birmingham New Street for a crew change working 5z75 from Swanage to Bury ELR. After a couple of minutes the engine sets off with a slight wheel slip and a whistle before heading off into the tunnels.
I think it might be the first time Flying Scotsman has visited Birmingham New Street in preservation as I can’t find anything online that suggests different. The last time 60103 visited New Street would’ve been in 1964.

Excellent video
Thank you
A nice view of 'Flying Scotsman' at New Street. Excellent video.
I saw it coming into Crewe that day. I was heading south out of the station on a service to London. Total surprise.
It has passed through on a railtour recently (Manchester Piccadilly to Stratford upon Avon) but not stopping
Thank you. I completely forgot about that
Great video sounded lovely under the road bridge.
Very cool locomotive and beautiful station😃⤴️⤴️Excellent video :)
Thank you
Wonderful video Luke :)
Nice catch there Luke, shame she’s not back in Apple green and single chimney for her up and coming 100th anniversary but that’s just my opinion, cheers 👍
Cheers nige. She would look great in apple green even if it’s not authentic.
Apple green is the colour of the LNER Scotsman. This baby is under the care of the NRM. He looks fine just as he is!!!!
Brilliant footage luke!
I’ve just confirmed this locomotive is going to the swanage railway.
Cheers liam.
@@thebrummierailenthusiasts5329 For its annual service no doubt.
Luke, A great capture and a rare one. Regards, John
Thanks John.
What a shot Luke, the wheel spin though 😳
Cheers Jamie. Was nice to not be swarmed by crowds. I think a lot of people expected that at new street hence why a handful of people were there
You were also on the correct platform for the good shots. Again people get close because you could have been famous for the youtube train spotting calamity of another local commuter blocking your shot. But you got the last laugh.
Not much wheel slip, but then one support coach wasn't much of a load! Nice camera work though.
Cracking shots Luke, I bet there were some confused commuters seeing a one coach train hauled by Scotsman Lol. Cheers, Brian.
Thanks Brian. I Was very surprised to not have a swarm of people descend on the end of the platform. If my memory is correct it’s Scotsman’s first visit to New Street since 1964 but I’m sure somebody more knowledgeable will be able to correct me if I am wrong.
@@blackcountrysteamvideos8021 I think most people prefer to be close up on same platform but I'd have done same as you & took my chances lol. I got it at Widney Manor. Yes, I saw her in 64 as was a fireman at Saltley but no idea if shes been back, as you say, someone will tell you lol.
What precisely is a wheel slip? What causes it?
It’s when the driving wheels lose adhesion and spin around. Common causes of wheel slip are wet or greasy rail head.
Can someone please tell me where is Flying Scotsman currently at right now?
I think it’s at the east lancs railway. It’ll be running there March 1-25th
@@blackcountrysteamvideos8021thanks for the information but what is Flying Scotsman doing at the East Lancashire Railway? Is he there for another overhaul or for regular maintenance?
@@blackcountrysteamvideos8021can you please answer my question.
so embarrassing..........
