Many thanks from Puerto Rico Salsa legends may you rest in peace.✝️ ♥️Much love !🇵🇷Thank you Jon Fausty for the great work. Aside all the Grammys you deserved more recognition. 🙏🏽
JON FAUSTY, a legend, Fania's sound, great to work with, knowledge, generosity. I thank him dearly for making the Orquesta Royal, Magia Album, enjoy staying power, Fausty is part of our Magia Musical.
Pete, thank you for sharing your interview with Jon Fausty. He is a legend and one of the best engineers in Latin music. I absolutely love the work he did for Fania Records between 1973-79. In my opinion those recordings were engineered and mixed so well, you could practically hear ever instrument. On vinyl, it sounded like the musicians were playing right in front of you if you were fortunate to have a nice stereo system. A few of my favorite albums which Jon engineered come to mind including Apollo Sound 5 & 6, Justo Betancourt's Pa Bravo Yo & Sigo Bravo (1974), Chivirico Davila's Para Mi Gente, Latin Tempo 2 and Orch. Harlow's Salsa which is a masterpiece in itself. I have mucho respect for this man. Now I'm going to watch this interview.
I would like to confirm what I was told by one of the member of the Cesta all stars many years ago in NY. I quote “ We recorded the Jams sessions live in the village gate after 2:00 AM. I reserve his name, but I believe him.
Man was I in for a surprise a few years back when I walked into my neighborhood Radio Shack in the Tampa Bay area and saw an actual Grammy award for sale behind the sales counter at the low price of $1000.00. I asked the sales person about it and that salesman unbeknownst to me was Jon Fausty and he said he had 17 Grammys but the one for sale was just a joke and not really for sale. Got to hold it. Sent chills down my body. A true master recording engineer a mile from my house. I’m a professional sax player and dabble in recording and thoughts of myself winning a Grammy has been an unreached dream. Shortly thereafter I was diagnosed with cancer and didn’t get back to the Radio Shack in time before he had left as an employee. The store as with other Radio Shacks has now closed. Wanted to pick his brain about recording.Since he still may reside in the area, perhaps I’ll run into him again. Thanks for the video.
damn Pete...another one(as dj Khalid would say)lol. what a great interview!! so interesting.you're right, maybe his name wasn't on the front but it was on MANY of the backs of the LPs.killer engineer.this is for true connoisseurs.thanks papa
Bro, can you do a video with Jon Fausty and others that shows how to record and mix salsa music? It would be great to see what mics he uses, mic placement etc. as well as eq's commissions, panning etc. and how important acoustical treatments are in other words what types of rooms he recommends for recording percussion and all the different instruments used in Salsa music. Thank you!
