    I think now is when a lot of anglers might be putting that jerkbait away for the season. In the pre-spawn, I think a jerkbait can really shine and catch some really nice fish.

      You know me, I will throw that thing all year. Once it clicked on the different subtleties of that bait - wow, it can be hard to put down.

    Bite just started picking up here in Nor Cal, except we are under blizzard warning atm, but the spinner bait has been a big player in the bites I have been getting. Good info!

      This can be very tough for sure, whenever I am faced with those conditions I fish very shallow and along the hardest structure I can find. Rocks, sea walls, even timber and docks. But the hardest you can find. Then I like to throw a slower sinking jig or Texas rig right along that hard structure. And often times, you literally have to drop the lure right along side it. A few inches away and it may not get bit. I hope this helps some! Let me know how it goes for you.

    Bluegill swim jig, chatter bait, spinnerbait and soft and hard jerkbait always tied on year round. Everywhere I fish bluegill are a huge food source. And these baits I have tremendous confidence in all of them

    Really helpful video! I just started fishing with my son, we have a big lake next tonys with a lot of bass. What do you recommend we start with as far as poles, reels, bait, lures? We are going to fish from the shore. Also wanted to go with maybe some floaters, for some down time. What do you recommend for those? Thank you!

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors
      @SteveRogersOutdoors  6 месяцев назад

      Great questions. As far as a rod and reel, a medium or medium heavy power spinning rod with a size 20 or size 30 spinning reel will be a great starting point. A lot of those rods or going to be a fast action which will be fine. I would start off with a weightless wacky rig. A 5" stickbait(senko) and a wacky hook is all you need. Great technique that will work pretty much all year. Some small crankbaits would also be great and of course a Texas rigged worm is hard to beat as well.

    Swim Jig/Texas rigged soft plastics/Jerkbait/Spinnerbait for me personally. Maybe a lipless or buzzbait if the conditions are right for it.

    Seems like everyones throwing a chatter bait, the jackhammer, sloberknocker. I personally don't throw either just because I'm always trying to fish something different. I see a lot of those chatter baits. The only chatter bait I even carry in the kayak anymore is the willow vibes. Have you tried those? Much smaller blade & it's a willow. I like to yoyo them most of the time. I'm usually throwing big swimbaits more than anything. Trying for biggest bites I can get

  • @johndynneson662
    @johndynneson662 6 месяцев назад

    May sound stupid. But I’ve been thinking on how. You can make your spinner bait suspend. Couple seconds. While on your retrieve. Suspending any kinda bait seems too ad more bits too me.

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors
      @SteveRogersOutdoors  6 месяцев назад +1

      That would be a powerful presentation/lure for sure! That suspending part sure can trigger bites.

    Hey Steve, I have a question about weather you would know. In my state, it went from 70 and cloudy to 58 and cloudy. Today it’s raining and only projected to be between 42-45 with rain all day. Tomorrow it’s supposed to be mostly cloudy but jump up to the 60s. Is this enough to push the fish down? Is tomorrow enough time to warm anything to get them moving up? Moving baits vs finesse? Would this be “cold rain” or the “warm rain” I often hear about? I’m probably overthinking it, but this weather is confusing here in the Carolinas. Especially being from Florida originally lol! God Bless!
    In the Carolina’s if that helps.

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors
      @SteveRogersOutdoors  7 месяцев назад +1

      These are all great questions. Spring is such a massive swing in weather. One thing to keep in mind is that on a day-to-day basis, water temps are much slower to change than air temps. With that said, when you have a swing like that, I most often find that later in the afternoons, especially if some sun comes out, is when the fish will push up to the shallows. At that time I really like the moving baits a lot. If you find that they seem to be not there, or you are seeing zero life up there, then I try to pick the highest percentage area I can find. This could be from past history, map study, Google Earth, etc., and then I will fish the bottom edge of whatever structure/cover you are working. I have seen quite a bit when filming that those fish often do not move as far as we think they do. For example, I will have fish right under my dock, a strong cold front hits and they just slip down the slope from under the dock to where that shoreline slope stops. In this case, they just moved vertically down about 6ft. So not very far away from where they were before the front. When fishing that bottom edge of stuff I will slow down with more finesse-type stuff since they are likely a little less active. I hope this helps some.

    • @kidiraq8381
      @kidiraq8381 7 месяцев назад +1

      Absolutely it does! Thank you so much Steve. I was debating on going out tomorrow. But usually when I see or hear “cold front”, I just think they’re not biting and don’t go. So now I’ll go and try! I’m still new to this, so hopefully I can find those “high percentage” spots! God Bless!
