I wish i could talk to the first caller mom. My son has autism and the journey has been difficult. At first when I noticed things were wrong, it took me a while to convince others things weren't quite right- including professionals. Now he's 10. Hes come a long way. He couldn't put a sentence together until he was 6. He didn't understand speech for a really long time either. Today he can speak very well. It just took a lot of work and 8 years of speech therapy. All this to say, she needs to do what she can, try it all. She also does need the support system and not feel selfish about asking for help. I waited too long to reach out. The day to day stress ate me up inside but I didn't want people to judge me. I tried to look strong all while crying myself to sleep every night worried i would never have a conversation with my son. I liked the way John handled this. Shes obviously a great mom💗

I honestly hope she sees this comment. What a sweet and encouraging person you are, Teri! You should be proud of being your son's advocate, even when others didn't trust your intuition and your judgement about what was different. I am so happy that he was able to grow under your support and guidance. You are a great mom too! Thank you for sharing your story.

I'm a mom who needed to hear this. I remember being where she was 4 years ago. My girl is 6 and I've realized this is not a death sentence but something that can be celebrated. Still, I'm filled with guilt and cannot imagine creating another child with her challenges. It seems unfair and selfish.

When I was 11, I read a Reader's Digest article about Autism. That was 1973. I knew then that the psychiatrists and psychologists blaming mothers for a lack of empathy and healthy connection to their infants were dead wrong. My older brother was a genius. His IQ was well over 200. And he broke my heart because he was so frightened of everything and everyone, but me. We both had the same genetic mental health issues. He turned to drugs, and I turned to the protection of my younger sister. Protect the baby, and then wait for the phone call. Get the brother and start the laundry, and never sleep. My sister is beautiful and brilliant. My brother chose to take his life in his forties. His children are brilliant, and humorous. My sister has saved Thousands from Covid-19. Love to you and all of yours.

Hey stranger. I realize this comment is three years old. But nonetheless, you're obviously a great mom as well!! I read this comment, and, felt every bit of it to the core of my being. And I can empathize so deeply with that kind of pain. As if an invisible fist just punches you in the gut and takes all your breath away. That kind of stress, that feels like it can never be solved. I'm in the middle of that right now. And so I say thank you. For also telling how you overcome that and how your son is doing wonderfully, although many years later filled with patience and belief. As you wish you could speak to that mom in the first call, I wish I could speak to you. I don't typically comment on media much, but I just wanted you to know that your comment helped me. Similar to the way listening to Dr. John always inspires this feeling of positivity, you did that on a very personal level 🙏🫶

Doing everything you can to co-parent is SOOO true!! My kids are all young adults who grew up watching their parents live separate lives, yet came together for every sporting event, special activity at school and even Christmas morning. Was it difficult? Absolutely!! Was it worth it? ABSOLUTELY! I have very healthy and well-rounded kids today because of the work my ex-husband and I did throughout their childhood. And I will do it all over again when we have grandchildren.

Here’s a hint ( to myself included). We r failing! Look at this country!!! Quit blaming republican or democrats or current , future or past presidents. Dr D gonna help us though and we r all
Trying so although we fall short we r trying. But let’s all encourage others and forward this vid. We all need it, none more than me. I’m more involved with my kids since covid, and i thought I was before ha ha. But wow, don’t we all not only think about our kids and their peers non stop, but we have serious reflection with our spouse daily about them. Dr d thank u for the help. I need you and these type
If reminders daily to be a better husband and dad and it’s too easy to get in bad ruts if we r aren’t trying to get in nice smooth paved roads to give us a chance. God bless and. Thank u !

I choose to be controversial to say if parents divorce they have at that point chosen to live separate lives which means you dont get a vote on any aspect of the other ex spouse life choices including who he or she is with and when they decide to introduce the children to.The duty of the other is to make this a teachable moment for the child about multiple partners etc otherwise people must choose their marriage and to work things through as it seems to me how can you expect to successfully coparent if you were not matured enough to work through your marital problems.
By the way I'm not advocating that people must stay together in toxic situations .
I have two girls different fathers and I raised them by myself the fathers have no involvement because I was not going to force no body to be a father .They are the most gorgeous kids 18 and 26 we are super close we do everything together, they are well adjusted, compassionate, kind and they always receive compliments for being so confident and kind to each other from family members, neighbors, friends, school. I thank God for them

More accurate image of graduation is just pulling the diploma out of the mailbox, or pulling the diploma out of the mailbox along with the student loan repayment schedule. Perverse twist on the 'what's in your wallet' commercials.

My kids cash flowed their own college in 4 years and no loans so we could fund our retirement. Your grown adult kids in the future will resent If they have to help you even if you paid for their college. My projections show we need $1 or $2 million to retire and because we all worked as a team we will hit the $2 million. Our kids are proud they cash flowed college and got jobs with market place value.

No, mama. I was born into a horrifically gifted and talented family. I fell in love with teenagers with autism at 11 years old. The sound of their need, frustration, and inability to communicate struck me dumb. 35 years ago the medical community almost exclusively blamed moms for failing their infants. I never saw that or heard it. I have sensory processing issues and an older brother with an IQ over 200. I was always able to negotiate the social world for him and block him when his social needs became dangerous for children or women in his life. He was self-centered to the max, he was entertained by his own children, but he disliked all of his stepchildren. He was always a danger to himself. I have always been a danger to him. My commitment has always been to children first. I didn't have babies. I accepted my very young sister and his young children as my responsibility. Genius is lovely. But stupid is always exhausting.

I noticed its a little dull too but I figured he has to pay his dues and prove people are interested before they invest in an expensive studio. At least, that's how I would think about it as a business owner. I bet his studio gets nice in the future.

Could it be that he wants people to be more interested in the content and delivery, than in the visual atmosphere in the video? This is a talk show, not an entertainment program, so perhaps he wants the focus to be on the talking and not the environment. Just something I noticed.

Coparenting is not for the weak at heart. You can get a 3rd party order. This allows the other parent to date but not when they have visitation with the child.

Hi Doctor what if my ex just always cared about himself, had intercourse with my sister in our place.Never wanted to pay for anything.Made me bad with everyone.Left drink for drugs, and did all his games in front of our daughter which is no 32.We were so shocked my daughter is living with s man from a broken marraige, and my sister is back with me,which has a ex that is in drugs and a syndicate, not allowing her to see her sons which are 40,30 and 36 under his control.Threatened with lives.
