oh man! he was one of the most successful singers in Latin America. He was known as "The Prince of Song" (el principe de la cancion) and this song is just one of the many hits of his 30+ year career.
El príncipe de la canción, sus canciones sonarán por siempre. Y ahora lloran si no les ponen el autotune. La mayoría de "cantantes" son una pena ahora.
The name of the song is "El Triste" (The sad one), "En vivo" means it was recorded during a live session (a contest). The video quality is because of the year: 1970. José José, "El príncipe de la canción" (The prince of song) is one of the iconic music figures (performer and actor) of México, very well known in all Latin America.

This performance was for an international competition and he was representing Mexico. In the audience you see a lot of known performers of that time and you can see how amazed they were.

"El triste" means: "The sad one", "En vivo" means that this video was recorded "Live". He was the GOAT singer. Literally he was known everywere in latin America and some parts of the US.
The Sad refers to a man with a lot of sadness. José José was one of the most recogniced Mexican singers worldwide in the 70s, 80s, 90s, y 2000s, he was now as the prince of song...
The song translate to "The sad one". The brief of the song is, "everything feels sad since you left, this pain and sadness helps me remembering you and help me continue living" José José is arguably the best Mexican singer form the 20th century (maybe from all times). His career is not as long as it should have been because of his battle with addictions, but the combination of his great voice with three of the greatest song writers of the time, gave us Mexicans long strings of songs that were authentic jewels. Most people of my generation or older can say they fell in love listening to his songs. This video is from a singing competition in 1970, very early in his career. At this point he only had his first hit song, "La nave del olvido" playing in the radio, but that song was enough to make the crowd go crazy when his name was mentioned as you can see in the video. This was the first time "El triste" was performed and it became an immediate hit. As a Mexican, a standing ovation to this jewel of Mexican music is much appreciated.
This video is from 1970 (it says it on the screen at some point). It was from a "Music festival" that was held were up and coming singers from different countries would perform. For most people in the audience, this was the first time they had seen or heard this man.
For the longest time I thought this was a break-up song, at least whenever I got heartbroken I'd listen to this song. When he sings, "today I want to embrace my pain", I can totally relate. When my friends and family wanted to cheer me up and I just wanted to wallow in the pain a little longer. That's relatable. To my surprise, recently, I was looking up the lyrics and read the bio of the composer and why he wrote it. It turns out it's about the pain the composer felt at his mother's funeral. He said he wrote the song after the funeral. I kinda wish I hadn't found it. It changed it a bit for me.
The funeral of great José-José was carried on at the Palace of Fine Arts lobby, and thousands were able to bid him a much deserved farewell. On the wall was a picture of him and the first verse of THIS very song: «qué triste fue decirnos adiós» (“how sad it was to say each other good bye”). His parents were both accomplished classical trained musicians (singer and pianist), and he was a double bass player himself in jazz and bolero combos early on in his career. That explains a lot :) His life was kinda tragical, and as a musician myself I have the fortune of have met and performed with several of his regular musicians. The stories they tell are nothing short of amazing.
Wow😮 i'm mexican and your follower, and It's great your reaction to "el triste" (sad) from José José (RIP) he was called " el príncipe de la canción" (The Prince of song) for his amazing way of sing. I'm so happy and proud that you lied the song Bisscute❤❤❤

The sad part Jose Jose didn't win the contest 😢 Second Place. But nowadays no one talks first place, and his performance is still replay over the years since 1970.

In 1970, José José participated in the Latin Song Festival which was held in Mexico City at the Ferrocarrilero Theater, in that place José José took the ovation of those present after his extraordinary interpretation of "El triste" he didn’t win 🥺

Bisscute that performance by José José is from the 70's, it was in a singing contest called festival de la canción. a curious fact sadly despite his great performance he did not win on that occasion. As a Mexican, I loved your reaction to the talent of the Prince of Song.❤😊
José Rómulo Sosa Ortiz (17 February 1948 - 28 September 2019), known professionally as José José, was a Mexican singer. Also known as El Príncipe de la Canción (The Prince of Song), his performance and vocal style have influenced many Latin pop artists in a career that spanned more than four decades.[1][2][3] Due to his vocals and popularity, José José was considered by Latin audience and media as an icon of Latin pop music and one of the most emblematic Latin singers of his time.[
If I remember correctly March 15, 1970, without technology, son of an opera singer father, he was a prodigy, if life of successes and excesses in alcohol and drugs, then he had affections to speak and sing until he died a few years ago

Hello, I loved your reaction to El Triste from the one and only José José. Cheers from Tijuana, México.
This video is from 1970 (it says it on the screen at some point). It was from a "Music festival" that was held were up and coming singers from different countries would perform. For most people in the audience, this was the first time they had seen or heard this man.
The title is El triste, which means "The sad one". "En vivo" just means its a live version
Que emocionante saber que te haya gustado esta canción !
José José gran representante de mi nación, gracias por reaccionar a un grande de México

5:47 Una leyenda mexicana, eso es lo que es...
Y que en paz descance...
The very very best reaction to jose jose
Thank you so much
Jose Jose was a master of vocal technique. O seară frumoasă!
Almost the same story that "Amor Eterno" by Juan Gabriel.
That explains a lot :)
His life was kinda tragical, and as a musician myself I have the fortune of have met and performed with several of his regular musicians.
Sorry: liked The song😊
This was recorded in a live talent show in Mexico. Think of The Voice, America's got Talent, etc. that's kinda like what this was at the time. He didn't win, but everyone loved him. That's why the people afterwards threw their roses/flowers and went on stage. He's beloved in Mexico. This is where he became huge in Mexico for decades.
The sad part Jose Jose didn't win the contest 😢
Second Place.
But nowadays no one talks first place, and his performance is still replay over the years since 1970.
“¿Who is Jose Jose”? He’s the prince of Mexico!! ❤️
Yeap.... It doesn't matter if you understand him or what language you speak!! His voice, emotions, and passion is universally understood by everyone with a soul!
In 1970, José José participated in the Latin Song Festival which was held in Mexico City at the Ferrocarrilero Theater, in that place José José took the ovation of those present after his extraordinary interpretation of "El triste" he didn’t win 🥺
No ganó por increíble que parezca
They were evaluating the song not the performance, anyway incredible that he didn’t won
One of the best singer of latin america, the true singer with talent, love ur reaction and greetings from perú.
"El triste" (The sad one) March 25, 1970, when he represented Mexico in an international song festival, the "II Festival de la Canción Latina"
Es un festival de la canción latina en México en 1970
Irónicamente creo que no lo ganó.
I have seen a lot of coaches react to this song, but you are the first one ever seen soing a standing ovation to a video, thats the efectt José José does to must of the people seeing this vdeo. the perfomance was for a contest that took place im 1970. Unfotunalety he did not win, but thankfully for us, the song has won the heart of millions around the world, like you just did. EN VIVO means it was a live event, those contest were broadcast to the latin countries. I like to thank you for your reaction. From those days there are more mexican singers with the same quality as José José. You can try Emmanuel, Lupita D alessio, Manuela Torres, Lola Beltrán, Enrique Guzman, and so on. Looking foward to see more of your reactions. Grettings from México.

I love your reaction, and better yet your openness to different Languages and music genres. This song and Jose Jose are a gem, among so many Mexican and Latin singers. If I may please react to Lara Fabian “Je Suis Malade live” and or Eivor “falling free- live at the old Theater at Torshavn”
These two will not disappoint and it will make you feel things :)
Hi Bisscute, you defined very well, HE IS THE SONG, Despite Jose Jose did not win the first place in this event 1970, no one remember the first and second, after some years Jose Jose became the princess of the song
It's a great song. My next recommendation for the future is "hasta que te conocí" (until I met you) Juan Gabriel live version. I love your reactions
Also known as El Príncipe de la Canción (The Prince of Song), his performance and vocal style have influenced many Latin pop artists in a career that spanned more than four decades.[1][2][3] Due to his vocals and popularity, José José was considered by Latin audience and media as an icon of Latin pop music and one of the most emblematic Latin singers of his time.[
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your reactions! So lovely ❤❤
If I remember correctly March 15, 1970, without technology, son of an opera singer father, he was a prodigy, if life of successes and excesses in alcohol and drugs, then he had affections to speak and sing until he died a few years ago
You have an accent like no other. Love it. God's Blessings to you 😊
