the British have the advantage or disadvantage of having their own nuclear arsenal. in addition to this, our armies are similar and have been fighting side by side in all theaters of war for more than 80 years.

The UK has neglected defence so much that Italy now has a bigger army and airforce and ai impressive navy. We are proposing to cut our armoured units to 2 because the Treasury only allocated enough money to modernise 150 Challengers - Italy is now talking about buying 250 new Leopards.Its ordered about twice as many new f35 fighters as we now intend to ., plus new Typhoons. And our strike capability has now currently fallen to 12 F35s and any Typhoons we can spsre from their air defence role , from the 150 or so the Tories inherited in 2010. Italy even has air defnce missiles protecting is key bases, while we are sitting ducks for any attack.
We do spend a lot on the deterrent but are now unique in having one system and we now have fewer warheads and missiles than in 2010 and fewer ready for use than is fielded by any other nuclear power, possibly including N Korea. The axe has fallen here too.
Italy has also mastered the link to the economy. The Treasury here pours billions into designing new fighters to keep Bae in work, or developing bespoke armoured vehicles that dont work, and then buys everything slowly at higher cost - because it has spent whatever arbitary budget it comes up with.Italy seperates the two functions of defence spending and provides money from an industry budget to support defence facilities, and buy some units on top of whats affordable within the defence budget. T We end up with less and less equipment and programmes developing things that would have been bought of the shelf, or will turn up and may prove unsffordable , in a decade.
Given the number of major conflicts now underway or brewing, we cant afford the Treasury's' lets not bother, nothing will happen attitude ' any longer. Labour needs to recognise this as there"s now a defence vaccuum in British politics - awaiting someone else to fill it -by pointing out the irresponsibility shown since 2010. and promising to fill some holes in national defence.

@@JJ-ev9uz yes you can read the Mutual Defense Agreement (MDA) which allow the exchange of military information, decisions, technologies and materials between the UK and the US. The UK is the « junior » in this cooperation and cannot act without consulting the US. And as you might know, any weapons, military arms or vehicles on which there is an US technology cannot be used without the authorization of the US government, Congress and Pentagon. That’s why the General de Gaulle decided to build up France nukes without the US.

We share technology with the US, we design and build together, but in terms of how they are used, has nothing to do with the US what so ever. Its a myth

I think its good that the italian military is seen as weak, cuz when we come to punch after being pushed so much we WILL come to bite and they wont even know. Also, italian military is trained in every possible terrain...need i remind we have alpine training unlike most armies? Also Italian spec ops instructors teach some of the best spec ops organizations as well, that in it self says that our spec ops are recognized as well. We have nuclear powered carriers witch barely any military has, very few do. We also put a lot of work into our camo, witch for some reason some do not, our camo works very well. Understand that the quiet kid in the room that could be anyone, can always come shove insults down cocky spoiled kids throats. I love my country. Besides weve had more war done on our terrain that GB so we have more to learn from in defending our home.

Italy has a decent Navy, Air force and Special Forces. The army is terribly neglected, we have few tanks and of horrible quality (Arietes). Same goes for apcs and ifvs like Dardo. There’s a critical lack of Drones and integration with infantry, armor and artillery. Artillery is seriously lacking like in pretty much every european country. We have a few pzh2000 which look amazing in military exercises but have been shown to be too delicate for constant heavy use in Ukraine. Most of the infantry is still armed with aging ar-70/90 (basically a heavy ak in 5,56) , there are not many advanced optics going around. Same goes for anti tank systems, pazerfaust 3 are great but one shot and we have not that many of them. European armies lack an rpg7 equivalent that can shoot multiple cheap rockets to deal with enemy cover (leaving more advanced systems to kill enemy armor)
they are investing more in vehicles such as the Centauro 2 (look for it on the internet, it is a very interesting and very modern vehicle), you may have missed the 220 brand new Centauro 2 that entered service in 2022, perhaps you also missed the new "aircraft carrier" Trieste which brings the number of Italian aircraft carriers to 3 (which enters service this year), or the AW249 attack helicopter built by Leonardo and Finmeccanica. in short, Italy is modernizing itself, also considering the fact that it self-produces many of its weapons.
