    I saw Chicago 3 times in the 70s. No pyrotechnics, no flash, no special effects - just 7 musicians playting their music. They were at least as good live as on their records. Those early days they were a true rock band with horns.

    • @L33Reacts
      @L33Reacts  9 месяцев назад +1

      Man I love the horns so much. It's such a great touch to an already refined sound. It adds such a cool, piercing layer. These guys are legit

    You really need to listen to the album version - drums are up in the mix (where they belong), all instruments clear, excellent recording from the year I graduated high school and started college, 1972

    Terry Kath was an insanely talented guitarist, singer, and songwriter. We're coming up again to the anniversary of his death that happened on January 23, 1978, just a week before what would have been his 32nd birthday (born January 31, 1946). Though he was only with Chicago for ten years, it was those formative ten years that were Chicago's best.
    Listen to him shred on their debut album on tracks "Poem 58", Listen", and "Liberation". Those and his legendary performance on their second album's "25 Or 6 To 4" cemented his legacy. When Jimi Hendrix tells your band that "your guitar player is better than me", you have something special!

    If you liked the "proto ska" aspects of this record, you'll probably love their 1971 hit "Lowdown", which has even more prominent ska-like organ riffs and an aggressive guitar-&-bass-driven opening that reminds me of what the Clash were doing 8 or 10 years later. Very eloquent lyrics too.

    Lee-- I saw this tour back in '72 ( I think). Only time I saw them,for their album 'Chicago V'. Last great 'rock' album they did. After that, they got much more commercial and their ballads were the big radio hits moving forward. hang in there with the cold,bro..feel better! Music like this will get you through..rock on! T PS: The studio album is fab! ;-)

      You know what... you are so right. We are at the precipice right now... a turning point in our species. If we just talked together and maybe got to know someone you wouldn't think you'd be cool with usually.. you'd learn so much. You have to ask yourself would I want this said or done to me? Always put yourself in the other person's shoes.

    (Terry Kath and Chicago "Dialogue Part 1 & 2" 1975 New Year's Rockin' Eve) ... My favorite version. A lot of celebrities there.
    Also ....(Terry Kath and Chicago, "Wishing You Were Here", '74 New Year's Rockin' Eve.) ...Notice one is labeled 75 and the other 74. but it is the same concert. I wonder why the confusion lol.

    Great band, fine song. This is a jazzy album with a lot of good choices. These lyrics are even more pertinent now than then. Hypocrisy and the lack of concern are rampant today. Sadly the world has not changed......at least for the better. Chicago is up there with CSN&Y, Genesis, and Supertramp for me.
