Will pair to klipsh 8000f ii with to 504 center and matching rear surrounds and Atmos speakers in the future.. too expensive all at the same but slowly going there !❤

Your excellent perspective with a buyer perspective is exactly what most viewers look for and value from reviewers of A/V gear. Thank you both. I agree completely with your recommendations on A/V receivers, as long as the buyer is a HT enthusiast first and two channel listen is a secondary, if at all requirement. For those who value HT and two channel equally (or listen more often to two channel music) their prefered order list will likely change. I've listen to the Marantz 40, and own the Anthem 1140 (Yamaha Aventage in the past as well). I consider the 1140 the best receiver for two channel music listening, the Yamaha RX-A8A second and Marantz 40 third. I can't comment on Sony ES line, Onkyo, Pioneer and Denon as those were pretty poor two channel performers when I became an HT enthusiast in the mid 90's (after already being an avid stereo audiophile since 1979). Consequently they're off my list for consideration. Special thanks to Kristi, who pushes Andrew to deliver on comparisons.

Your initial review of the RZ50 was a BIG reason I got it. I needed an HDMI 2.1 capable AVR with pre-outs and room correction. At the time RZ50 was one of the few HDMI 2.1 compatible units available.
Sadly my unit has plagued me with issues on top of issues. I’ve taken it to the service center at least 3 times and I have no clue when I’m going to get it back or if the issues have been worked out. It’s been a extremely frustrating… and as much as I love that AVR I’m
Not 100% sure I’ll buy another Onkyo.
However it is good to know that if I do stay with them and give them one more chance at least the RZ70 still has that sound profile that I like. I was very impressed with the RZ50 (when it works). Glad to know they didn’t neuter it!

Not that I like to hear you argue, but you both explain your point of view so well it makes it easy to understand where both opinions are coming from. Ok Kristi, I grew up with Onkyo. Nothing wrong with this well developed brand. But, then I replaced my last one in March with my STR AZ5000ES (based on Andrew's review of the 7000ES) and, Holy S**t was it eye opening. I have developed my 'home theater' in my living room based on a compromise with my lovely wife on where the speakers should reside. Definitely not optimal for my 5.1.2 system. My Focals are right and left 80% up attached to the wall. My emotiva surrounds are similarly that high to the left and right of my seated position. My dual centers are above and below the TV so they are fine but my Atmos right and left Klipsch are on a shelf 8 ft high, upside down and standing on their ends so they are aimed mid ceiling in this non traditional placement. Strangly this provides the perfect angle and actually works well. The result with the Sony 5000ES is nothing short of astounding. What I get with 360 SSM is an entire front wall of sound stage unlike anything Onkyo produced. It physically changed and updated my entire system. Surrounds fill the sides and the Atmos heights are dynamic. Switching SSM on then off and back on is like my system wakes up. And putting it in Pure Direct for music is simply mind blowing. Thank you Andrew and Kristi for reviewing the Sony 7000ES. My Sony 5000ES has upgraded my entire system like I did not believe possible.

Currently running the RZ 50 in 9.2.2. and gotta admit im very happy with it. In my humble opinion the RZ 50 is the best value for the $ . You can add external amps for more power as well as 2 more height channels totaling 11 channels. Bootom line for me is the more i use it the more i like it.

The only snag I found expanding my RZ50 was the external amp for expansion has to run the Left and Right surrounds not the mains. So I’ve now got a dedicated amp running Center and side surrounds when I wanted it to run LCR.

Do you find that not having independent sub outputs is a big deal? I bought RZ 50 and am struggling with deciding on exchanging for the 70. But from what I've read you can calibrate dual subs without indenpendent outputs without issue?

    • @joescott701
      @joescott701 8 месяцев назад

@breger2323 I have no issues with it not having independent sub outputs. Dirac does take out a lot of bass on the room correction which I understand to some degree. Everything rattles with too much bass unless you have a dedicated built room. I've been in home theater for awhile now. All and all I stand by my statement of best bang for the buck.

After many hours and research, I ended up going with the RZ50, partially due to your review(before the RZ70 was released), the RZ50 won out over the Marantz for my system...needing 2 extra channels for my 7.1.4 system, I went with an Onkyo M-5010 2 channel for the surround backs(SVS Ultra Surrounds in DUET "mode"), overall, I'm very happy with my decision(s) concerning the entire system, and BIG action movies sound like you're in a theater, not my living room...

I just took delivery of my Sony 85X95L and Sony STR-AZ7000ES 3 weeks ago. I was playing with my tv getting it the way I like that I finally got to calibrating and setting up my Sony receiver. I am coming from a Pioneer Elite SC-99 (the last receiver I consider a true "Pioneer Elite" receiver). I loved my SC-99 but omg I was blown away by the capabilities of the Sony. I mean I felt like I was listening to all new material. Many movies, music, etc. The sheer oomph was mind blowing. As for the surrounds that Kristi was talking about. Sony really upped the information and the space of sound better than what I have ever experienced in the past. Like it is a massive upgrade in how the rear performs. It truly sounds like I'm in a bubble of sound where everything is all around. The most important part of this is that my setup isn't ideal as my rear surrounds are right behind my ears by only a few inches but wide apart because of the layout of the room so they almost look like they are side surrounds but Sony correction has given them a rear image that is very impressive.

Got an rz50 a few months back when they were on sale. 5.1(2).4 all klipsch. It's great. Dirac can be picky with the subs. Have to turn them way down or Dirac will give an error. But once set, you can turn them back up to fit your taste. Haven't played with the manual adjustments in Dirac yet, but I'm sure I will before long. I love how you can turn up the vocals for movies with no noticeable effect on the rest. It spoils you, especially when you change the mode to one that doesn't support it, like thx. My only gripe is that there is little to no imax content. Yeah disney+ has some....but its only the aspect ratio. Thinner bars on top and bottom......

Hello Andrew. Fortunately i have never had stress with my home theatre set up. Because i only watch movies and listen to music, i don't need a receiver. My 200 watt per channel power amplifier, tube line level preamplifier and tube phono stage is all i need for music and movies. When watching movies i insert a small device that gives me a true three dimensional soundstage. This results in musical instruments and other sound sources spread out in a large arc ranging from 45 degrees to 90 degrees. Sound images exist to the left and right, extending well beyond the limits of the loudspeakers and, occasionally, all the way to the extreme left and right.I can perceive a sonic stage depth 10 to 20 feet with sound images clearly "floating" behind and in front of the speakers. I can turn my head and "look" at the sound images and they will not move. Some sound images seem to clearly emerge from outside the walls of the listening room. Dialogue is extremely clear because i am only using 2 speakers.
I know you won't respond to this answer, but ,you never know, miracles do happen.

I admit. I should have listened to your review of the RZ50. which I think is a far better buy than the choice I made buying the Yamaha RX-A6A. the Yamaha loses a lot of power when configured at 5.2.4 or 7.2.4. I ended up adding an external amp which ended up costing more than the Onkyo RZ70. I should have waited for the RZ70.

    • @JadeB628
      @JadeB628 10 месяцев назад +1

@@BabyDeer_Red4 Don't get me wrong. The Yamaha RX-A6A is essentially identical to to A8A. Both are high end receivers, Knowing all the features of this receiver can take you at least a year. I would not recommend it for the average user. This receiver is meant for advanced audiophile users.
secondly. the Yamaha user manual is not helpful. Yamaha did not bother creating a YT video on either basic/Advanced setup.
to me? it seems like overkill. As long as you use 5.2..2 you'll have enough power. but if you want to run the full 9.2 or 11.2 setup you'll definitely need an external amp for the fronts.
you can also convert it into a processor. which means you'll need six separate 2-channel amps for every 2-channel output. aside from the sub, to get its full potential. you can have a complete home cinema with some serious power. only if you're willing to invest a lot in high end speakers.
even setting up the "Amp assign" is not explained well in the user's manual.
if Yamaha had a step by step for each configuration. That would be helpful.
I would advise you to have a look at the online user's PDF file before making a purchase. It's an excellent product. but Very complex.

There is a difference for sure, but the RZ50 is quite close, and a "non HT" person I don't think would hear the difference. Not to mention cost, in Canada the NAD is $10k, plus the $4K plus for amplification. Although I do miss the big set up, The Onkyo really kicks Butt! HT receivers have really come into there own, especially now DIRAC is built in. Can you dive into the sony mapping feature just a little bit more, maybe a bonus chapter in a future review.
With this review you suggested that its so powerful because it makes your rear ceiling surrounds act like real ear level rear surrounds rather than being ceiling mounted. So it can map untraditional layouts to the suggested dolby layout.
Could you just for experiment purposes place 4 of any speakers ear level, and deactive your ceiling surrounds. So you have the traditional setup, and test out this spatial mapping and see if the effect of it is just as pronounced?
Maybe save this for the upcoming integra 8.4 review/ comparison? chapter?

Dolby Atmos on Netflix up to 768 kbps. Dolby atmos on UHD Blu-ray. Dolby Atmos averages around 6,000 kbps when a 48kHz sampling rate is used. But Atmos can be encoded losslessly at up to 24-bit/192kHz, which results in bit rates that can soar as high as 18,000 kbps

I'm going to start this by saying I have never used separate having said that I do not believe I have ever come across a Commenter on RUclips, who has not claimed my going separates was not better, rather, they simply added an additional power amp to the receiver or completely, went full, blown separates with processor and power amps Having said that once again for probably 90% or better of people out there a properly set up receiver in most rooms should be plenty, but I am just going on the comments tons of people who have added a separate amplifier to their current receiver, and go yes, it's better than making the jump from that to a processor and separate amps and clean. Their mind was blown on how much better it was just my observation.

I enjoy your reviews and they were helpful choosing an AV receiver for my daughter and nephew. You review several home theater AV receivers that I would call upper middle market and some of us like to use a separate DAC for two channel music. It is important to know if there is an analog bypass circuit in the receiver so that our high-quality analog signal from our DAC is not digitized. It would be a small addition to your reviews, but I think it should be mentioned whether an analog bypass is present. There are very few AV receivers that have analog bypass, but some of your viewers will find that information important in their decision to buy or not.

I love Emotiva amps and yes, Herculean power on tap has its advantages for sure. But in our room, using speakers like the R11 Metas and B&Ws (+6 surround/atmos speakers) the RZ70 NEVER felt as if it was running out of steam. Even when I hooked up my XPA-11 to the Onkyo's preamp outs, I'm not sure there was a night and day difference in our room and on our speakers.

I was waiting for the Sony comparison and that's now what I care about the most about now with AVR's, I've compared Pioneer 505 to my Yamaha A4A and the immersiveness was so much better with Pioneer at the time. Which I assume was the case with the RZ50 since theyre designed by the same engineering group.... ultimately for my next move in AVR im going sony. The surround sound immersiveness is tbe #1 metric in my opinion.

Great Review as always. As a RZ50 owner who paid $1399 back in the day (you can get it now pre prime day for $1229), paying over double for a bit more power 120W vs 140W, maybe better processing, 2 more power channels and extra independent sub...not sure it is worth it here if the sound it not all that different. Personally, think they are overcharging at $2799 (and backordered till Sept most places) even if they are the lowest priced of the new 11.2 AVRs with DIRAC included. A RZ50 and a 100W 2ch amp will only be $1400 at most and you get like 85% of a RZ70. Most bang for the buck is important still. The gap at 9.2 vs 11.2 (powered) seem awfully artificial to me here. If the RZ70 was sub $2000, it would be a game changer.

I love all of your reviews, and really appreciate the quality and art you put into them; you both make an incredible team. My Denon 6700 died after 3.5 years. I picked up an open box Yamaha A8A from my local Best Buy and I've been using it for the last month. Playing movies from my Panasonic 4k player sound AMAZING. Music is alright from the Apple TV. And it's honestly pretty terrible when it comes to watching anything from a streaming service--the audio is just so empty, flat and almost zero surround (it does show Dolby Atmos and I've tested Surround AI, Straight, etc.). I've been debating between the Onkyo RZ70 and the Sony 7000ES. With the recent price cut and their integration with my 7.2.4 Klipsch system , I ordered the Onkyo RZ70 last night. This will be my first time using Dirac, so I'm pretty excited about that. I previously owned an Anthem MRX 1140, so I'm excited to see how all of the room corrections stack up.

On a similar vein, in the video you reference the RZ50 as a comparison, but the price drop on the RZ70 puts it in line with the 5000SE, which is quite intriguing. I’m not sure why the RZ70 was so expensive when it seems to be more aligned with the 5000SE. In fact, the Sony has quite a few features that the RZ70 doesn’t have. I’m curious your thoughts between the two, Andrew? I can’t find anything online that directly compares the two. Your reviews of the Sony SE line as well as the RZ70 are glowing, for the most part. The power is slightly down on the Sony, but it seems to be feature Rich. Minus the sub output. Which would you choose? 🙏

We are seeking an all in one box for 2 zone music listening (B&W old 704s inside and B&W 600 outdoor speakers -played simultaneously in good weather). And of course surround for movies. This happens on NR6050 and A4A. So, TCL has a problem or we still have issues with Panasonic HDMI Chipset. Did not have any issues with Onkyo RC360. Return window is expiring on Yammy. Also, as far as the center channel, how did the carbon dome tweeter and the two diamond dome tweeters on the Bowers And Wilkins speakers left and right versus the center carbon dome? Did you find any sound characteristics beyond software calibration that were notable versus having a 800 Series Center with the diamond tweeters? Have you ever experienced the center channel with the diamond tweeters? I’m just kind of curious because of the incorporation of different tweeter materials within the front range of the listening area. Thank you for any feedback you give.

They finally added a much bigger power transformer. which is critical for either 9.2 or 11.2 channels and above. One of the known ways to tell a good unit from a pro audio unit is by its weight. the RZ70 weight is 48.5 lb / 22 kg. It's supposed to perform far better than its predecessor RZ50 by far. being priced at $2799. although I did not hear it yet. at this price point, I would bet my money on the Yamaha Rx-A6A priced at $2299 or the A8A same price as the RZ70.
