      There were 438 entries at Pomona. Of those, 406 run to the quarter mile or 93%. The only ones that don't are the two nitro categories. Two main reasons they can't are the short shut down area - TF cars are going 100mph faster than when the track was built. The other is that the engines are hitting the rev limiter around 990’ …..if they go 50’ further under power they blow up! The only possible way to make them last to a quarter mile is to take the blower off……..and you already have that with the injected nitro cars in the TA class…..

    This is excellent! That girl is as cool as a cucumber!

      If your referring to the "Hemi", Chrysler was not the first to use this design. Lots of companies used it in different ICE's . Even the famous Ardun Hemi head for Ford flat heads was conceived by Zora Duntov around 1947, long before Chrysler. BTW Mr. Duntov was consider the father of Corvettes.

    • @392hemi9
      @392hemi9 Год назад +1

      Yes Lori you are correct. However Chrysler Corporation was the only company to develop and produce a engine with hemispherical combustion chambers that was widely used in production automobiles. The Audern/ Duntov heads to which you refer were very limited aftermarket designs. The 426 HEMI on which Brittany Force's engine is loosely based, simply illustrates the robustness of the original engine design. This is not suprising, as this engine was designed purely as a racing engine to dominate NASCAR. In drag racing the 426 was not initially successful. Most racers were using the 51 to 58 Chrysler Firepower engines. Eventually they discovered that the 426 engine required completely different tuning
      to live up to it's potential.

    • @lorimcquinn3966
      @lorimcquinn3966 Год назад +1

      @@392hemi9 I always like the early 331 and 354 Chrysler Hemis, had a 331 in my Bantam Roadster. Was a Factory "300" engine with dual Carter 4 barrels, Dual points and factory adjustable rocker arms. Pretty respectful for 300 Horse engine. Had the later 727 trans installed via a adapter. Nice combo.

    • @392hemi9
      @392hemi9 Год назад +3

      Another piece of technical trivia, the 51 to 58 engines were the only true HEMIS. If you look at a cutaway of the cylinder head the valves are set at a 45 degree angle to the cylinder bore centerline. This of course results in a very wide/heavy cylinder head. So in an effort to narrow the engine somewhat to better fit in engine compartments of the 1960's automobiles, the 426 engine had it's exhaust valves pulled in 15 degrees in toward bore centerline to narrow the overall width of the engine. Thus the second, and third generation of HEMI engines are technically not true hemihead V8's. Luckily Chrysler Corporation had brains enough to copyright the HEMI designation.

      Not to disparage Force and her record, but land speed racers might have something to say about that....

      Very little as the engines only run about a minute and a half. Methane turns into CO2 and H2O post burning. Methane also produces less CO2 for the amount of heat it outputs compared to other hydrocarbon fuels. NASCAR is more polluting per race than Top Fuel drag racing.

      David Grubnic and that whole team is something special. Mike Salinas is a billionaire 12 times over and he isn’t running that fast. Capco boys have a lot of budget.

    You mean God bless the engine tuners and mechanics. All she did was stand on the gas and remember to pull the Parachute. As silly as this new drag racing is with basically everyone running the same engines. Bow to the tuners and mechanics because they make it all happen.

      Mmm, it takes a lot more effort than that. Keeping chassis barreling down the track at over 300MPH takes skill. Don't diminish what she does to feel better about yourself. Drag racing is a team effort that even the driver can mess up. The fascinating part is everyone working as a team to make it happen, each playing their part.

  • @glyphs3

    It's a team effort. NOT just her. Ya'll keep forgetting that. Clutch management, fuel mix and how much, blower rpm, tire pressure. All she does is step on the pedal and steer, nothing else. Unless she is turning a wrench, she's just a pretty face.

      Ever drag raced a top fuel drag car? No? It takes a lot of skill to keep 30+ foot rail going straight for 1,000 ft and reaching nearly 340MPH while being subjected to 5-6G's. Tell me you don't know jack without telling me you don't know jack...
