EMPTY! 15 hours in Delta A350 ECONOMY CLASS Sydney to Los Angeles Trans Pacific

  • Join me as I review the Delta A350-900 in economy class from Sydney to Los Angeles. Delta completely surpassed my expectations. The A350 economy seat is very comfortable. It helped that the plane was 20% full… but still a nice seat. The crew were super attentive, very warm, and keen to help in any way they could. The food was some of the best I’ve had in economy. Portions were a bit small, but I guess that’s just a quality over quantity type thing. Snacks and drinks were available in the galley throughout the flight. Amenities included, pillow, blanket, headphones, and amenities kit.
    *Edit*
Final grade for Delta should have been 66/70!

@Erik, in the 70’s he flew cargo/mail then F’4’s in the military. He got hired on with Delta in 1980 on the DC9. I believe the journey went DC9, 727, MD88, 757/767, 777.

@Rosie H, thank you for your kind words. I will pass them along. Unfortunately partially because of COVID he did NOT get the send off that I feel like he deserved for 40 years. He has a big 777 print that a lot of pilots signed but I feel like he deserved more. Water salute or something. If you talk to him he says it’s not a big deal because in true pilot fashion he’s as modest as you can imagine.

I hope in your dad’s retirement that he will entertain the idea of writing a book. I am not kidding, flying all those years, he has stories that we can’t even imagine. I hope he will just start jotting things down. As the future progresses, So will air travel and those stories that your dad has are priceless.

I think the pilot did a wing wave at takeoff! Nice pilot!

    • @tristanhnl
      @tristanhnl Год назад +1

I don't think that was intentional; it was more likely an unexpected gust of wind that required quick correction. Wing waves and other maneuvers are fine if the plane were higher up off the ground. Doing a wing wave mere seconds after rotation and leaving the ground, is just asking for trouble.

Awesome, I took the same flight in the reverse direction in late 2021. Also mainly empty. Delta is surely the best of the US carriers flying to Australia, and I'd say the A350 with its spacious cabin and amenities is the best plane for the trip. Better than the A380 and B787.

Loved the video, thank you. I see you did the makeshift economy lie-flat bed thing, which is always hit or miss in my opinion. Some seats are just not comfortable for laying across, and the armrests can hinder the laying position. Hopefully you were able to get a restful couple of hours in.
I cannot believe that flight was so empty, wow. Then again, Australia had just opened up I guess. At least you were part of a little history with the pilot celebrating the last flight he would captain during his career. That's always a special event and, at 65 years young, a bitter pill for him to swallow, I'm sure.

Thanks for this video! I will be flying this route next February and March. I just sprung a little extra money for Comfort plus seats It was $149 extra each way but based on how my 63 year old body handled last months flight from London home to the USA at just 9 hours in economy I think it will be worth it for the extra legroom and recline. The recline is supposed to be double that of economy.

JAL at least used to run a 777-300ER on what amounts to a positioning flight from NRT-KIX (it flew overseas from KIX, back overseas to NRT, then to KIX to do it again). I flew it once and I counted five people on the entire plane. On a 777-300ER. That, after already having flown a 14 hour flight from JFK-NRT, was easily the weirdest flight I've ever been on, between my tiredness and the fact that it felt like I was on a ghost plane. I couldn't see another passenger even if I stood up and looked around. It did mean my wife and I had a personal flight attendant, though, which was cool.

That flight from SYD to LAX is what I call the Jet Lag Express. You leave in the morning (or afternoon sometimes) and arrive early in the morning. It screws up your biological clock in the worst way

Does it ever! I once flew PER - SYD - LAX - MSP - YQR (Regina, SK). Didn't sleep anywhere along the way. It took me about 2 weeks to sort myself out.

@@deedubya286 When I went on AA years ago I was routed SYD - LAX - STL - ATL (back when they had purchased TWA a couple years before) It took everything in me to get on that last plane in STL to ATL

Hi there - love the video - you said they set up a snack basket - for you to help yourself. I have flew 5 - 6 time s to the USA and never had the nerve or balls to ask for extra water or snacks. Is that something that happens alot and they let you do ?

Last time I flew on this route, the airplane had real seats. I couldn't imagine doing 2hrs in these seats, nevermind 15.

Fantastic video, such a shame you had to fly to Sydney just so you could choose from a different carrier that flies to the U.S hopefully United will be back flying into Melbourne soon.

Just a tip.... when transferring from Sydney domestic to Sydney international, if you dont have much luggage - take the train! Its much easier.

With a flight that empty, I would request a seat forward of the engines...ie ask the flight steward. It's much quieter than sitting aft of the engines and hence better sleep.
