I can't decide what I would like to see first. A Downton sequel set in the 1940s (beginning with the WW2 years) or a prequel in the late 19th century focusing on Robert meeting Cora and their early years as a married couple.
I don’t think it’s possible, the Second World War happens more than 10 years after the Christmas special episode. So the characters should be aged by 10 years? many of the main characters are already old in the logic of things they should then die
Moon Child I know. It makes me tear up too. I loved Matthew but he was apparently under contract to another film so they had to kill him off, otherwise the storyline would have been completely different.
BRILLANT !!GREAT STUFF !!LOVED IT ALL !!THANKS TO ALL WHO WERE INVOLVED IN THE MAKING OF" DOWNTON ABBEY " !!!!NOT A DRY EYE WATCHING THE VIDEO INDEED !!MANY THANKS FOR THE UP- LOAD !!!!FROM (U.K.).
Edith certainly deserved someone better than Bertie but he did become a Marquess with buckets of money so she will have loads more than Mary. Unfortunately all of this happiness happens just as 1929 looms on the horizon and we all know what that brought to their world ... money became worthless, people lost their all, and not long after that the world was faced with the advent of World War 2. No, the future is not a happy one, but as the series end we are happy for them for the moment.
I think nobility had more chances than the rest of the mortals, even in 1929. Bertie has lands and houses, and lots of other things. Rich people gets afloat very easily
@@vilwarin5635 Another thing that might have worked in their favour in 1929 - Mary, Edith and the lot would've been wary of any speculative investments leading up to to the crash, since Robert's disastrous experience with the railway stocks must surely be still fresh in their memory. Also, the estate depended largely on rents and local agriculture rather than the commodity cash crops of rubber and such. And no, money did NOT become worthless in 1929, at least not in the U.K. It was Germany that suffered hyperinflation.
@@edukid1984 true. It seems that Berie has better brains than Robert, and more experience with money and lands (he was the agent of his cousin after all)
+ozgurl6827 that is the only reason why I keep making excuses for Mary...but last episode was too much...I like her, but she really can be a b*** sometimes only for Edith. Even to Thomas she is nice...
I thought this was , thank you so much . Its another of my favourite films if not just for Robert Redford . It's the most beautiful music and makes me cry as I think of a very good male friend of mine that died like lady Mary lost him x
My thing is that this show felt so completely coherent through seasons 1-5...Maybe less so in 4 and back up in 5. But 6 (being In France and watching from streams) I felt the 8 episodes so far just put so many things in, and forced it to end, it feels like it will be a forced end in the Christmas special...but I am just so sad that a show so well conceived for so long could go this awry. It's upsetting to say the least. I thought that while the season wasn't as well thought as I would have wanted it, but the dialogue tried so hard to make up for it. I would have preferred as was stated several times (twitter etc) by actors and involved that 7 would have been the final. and I would have preferred that this was so, this season pushed so many things, pushed so many developments and forced them.
+Carey Coleman I agree with you on many of your statements....I am sad that the show will end....I guess love and relationships are our lives some much.
This series should have wrapped in the 4th season before Julian Fellows stopped caring about it's quality. Once he'd recovered from his burnout(or success), he could have reprised it with the same quality standards instead of contriving all these forced, simplistic endings. But live & learn. I hope Fellows gets another opportunity to do an Edwardian period series.
+tara thelen I think Edith and Mary would have had more in common in the 4th series and her bullying Rose wasn't so in her character. Her blowing up at Mary was only put there because it could be be not because it's brilliant, but because Fellowes could.
I have always hated the way Edith's parents neglected her, belittled her & let Mary bully her. They were both terrible parents who didn't know or care who their children were (but that's typical in many parents). I've imagined my own scenario for sociopathic Mary: a divorced woman in her 40's, alone & disliked by everyone (even her children). I imagine Edith & Tom will both have adoring families & do even more important work thru WW2 than in WW1.
gematria79 it was typical of the time for rich families. Nannies looked after thier children and they were presented to thier parents for one hour a day. It was horrible but that's how it was done and has been changed.
i agree, although i will give Robert credit that he at least grew to apreicate and love Edith, and he realized he treated her like dirty after he realized that Edith has such little trust in them that she had to keep Marigold a secret.
PsyduckWaterflower the reason marigold was kept a secret was because she was born outside marriage not because Edith didn't get on with her parents or vice versa. I was born to a single mother myself here in Ireland in 1975. She had no choice but to put me up for adoption.
it was yeah.... but Robert was deeply ashamed that he didn't notice all her suffering from season 5 (like more then 2/3 years) because of it. And Truly realized what an amazing and strong person his often ignored daughter really is.
PsyduckWaterflower agreed. I always much prefare Edith to Mary myself. Tom was right about Mary. She was a bully and a coward who resented any ounce of happiness her sister had.
Downton Abbey went to the crapper after Mathew died. Tom Branson and Thomas got no justice done to their story and Henry and Mary felt too forced...she should've ended up with Charles Blake who was both attractive and witty/intelligent.
Okey, now... Explain me... Why I hated this episode, but, your video made me LOVE IT SOO MUCH??!! Really... I'm sobbing... God! I hate this show that I'll miss so terribly much!
+Ana Holmes I hated this episode too but am willing to give it until the Xmas show. If Thomas and Edith don't get a happy ending to end all endings I am back to hating it.
a música de fundo - a partir de um certo ponto - é o tema do filme "Entre Dois Amores" (Out of Africa) de 1985. grande filme, música do extraordinário JOHN BARRY.
THOMAS and Rob James COLLIER deserved so much better. I hated the episode, Julian has no remorse. he handled Thomas attempted suicide so poorly it makes me sick. I hated it and was disgusted that a wedding was more important than a man who has been bullied this entire series life!
+Merlin Arthur Hear hear!!! The whole episode was really poorly written but tbh Fellowes is not a great writer. The story about Mrs Patmore was given far too much time if it was needed at all. Thomas got two minutes and a satsuma. In my humble opinion, they could have made this a two hour episode, centring around Edith and Thomas. The Xmas episode could then be more light hearted preferably ending with someone smacking Carson square in the face. Mary's wedding need not have been shown and could have just had the engagement announced.
+Yodel I agree. Due to this episode I will only forgive Julian is Edith gets engages and Thomas finds a man. previously all I wanted was Thomas to be happy but after this chiken shit episode Thomas needs love.
+Merlin Arthur oh dear your comment made me laugh and spill my tea everywhere :) :) I am slightly worried about Edith and Thomas. Bertie was a really nice chap but he did go on about his special relationship with his delicate cousin who liked watching fishermen in Tangiers. I wonder whether Gregson might turn up and Thomas goes to be Bertie's butler with benefits?
I can't believe how many fans have forgotten that since Season 1 Thomas has been a thief, an habitual liar, a blackmailer & a self-obsessed opportunist. He should have been shot him for cowardice during the war. After Bates saved him from the police(over the James fiasco) all Thomas wanted to do was find some way to hurt Bates (almost convincing the police that Bates was involved in Green's murder). Thomas wasn't disliked because he was gay. He was disliked because he is a sociopathic criminal (he was trying to blackmail his wealthy lover in season 1, so Thomas had no problem victimizing other gay men to make a profit). Changing this character in the last season was just one of Fellowes' lazy contrivances.
+Merlin Arthur I agree, Mary´s second marriage is something that was not necessary. Never liked here cause of her bullying towards Edith, her own sister! I always liked Thomas character, thought he was so misunderstood by the other servants. Jimmy was probably his best friend and his character was written out...
How ever people would like to change certain parts . I absolutely love this series ,nostalgia for a more refined existence. That I remember..... Many family heirlooms that have passed down to me . Of course Edith helps Mary find love...I hope this doesn't mean she will not have found it yet and will be content as a mother. I don't know who's grave, appears to have a long first name and a last name that begins with the letter B. Also, this would have to be in the future. Perhaps one day Fellows will care enough again to write a proper ending for the Crawley family's saga (maybe about this family's WW2 experiences).
