Make a Fast Charge USB cable
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 26 сен 2024
- In this video I show how to modify an existing USB cable to turn it into a fast charge cable, this is especially useful for Android devices using AC or Car charge adapters that are charging in USB mode instead of AC mode.
If the data pins (two middle pins) are shorted together, the Android device will assume it's connected to an AC adapter and try to pull more power than the usual 450-500ma it pulls when it thinks it's connected to a regular usb port.
Some people choose to cut their cable in half and then solder the wires, but this is a fiddly process and damages the cable shielding and general strength.

Gadget Addict Hi.. I short out the middle two pins by soldering it... after plugging in, the amps got reduced from 460A to 100A. Can you tell me why that happened? I used app called ampere to measure the amps
+Stanley Victor the app isn't accurate and 460A or 100A are insanely high. Most USB is below 3A
Gadget Addict sorry sorry it showed mA
It got reduced from 460mA to 100mA
For those who have no background about this things. Not well explained thats why ur bashed
bring thecamera closer to whats on your hands than having the camera looking at u
Very useful video - however, it is important to ensure the lead you are modifying can handle the higher current. Some cheap USB leads contain very thin strands of copper that are not intended to handle the higher current and may present a fire risk.
Um, why stuff up the USB cable with the strip? It would make more sense to put the aluminium strip on female USB on the power supply so that the cable can still be used as a data cable.
CarmenBonkalot ture u thought well see this is how ideas grow but will it work correctly..it sud ryt someone sud try
sheldon??? is that you?
Christian Del Rosario true that !
still better than "Fun with Flags"
I thought I would make a multi-USB cable for charging and powering models and speakers
I discovered that the mobile does not charge quickly
Now, after watching the video and after connect, both ends of the data
The mobile phone actually charged to its full capacity and quickly
Honestly, it is one of the few videos that provides a solution to the fast charging problem
Thank you very much
Are you sheldon???
LOL
me too walter

Thanks for the help man,seriously...my phone is charging hella fast, good video
Awesome! My Oneplus One charger is 2.3amps and it charges from Zero to Full in about 45 minutes... Looking at my battery status it states its charging at AC current so full power is being utilized for that quick charging.... Awesome! Now if I can find small Supercapacitors and mod them to fit inside my phone replacing my phone's battery then my phone will be able to charge fully in about 30 seconds or so!
Sick
lol ^_^
fool
i just now tried this trick..its work..i use Ampere apps for monitor my Mah..before modify the maximum is 760mah after modified i got 1160mah maximum..good luck for you all..
You remind me on Sheldon Cooper from "The Big Bang Theory" :D
Gadget addict you did a very good job on this video and I honestly don't think anyone else could have explained it so thoroughly that anyone could understand exactly what to do
Thank you :) I hope it helps :)
what app u r using to display amp/volt
ampere
j
He totally looks like Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory...
So you make youtube videos when not starring in the big bang theory

Thank you. This was easy and it really works. I just recently switched from an iPhone to a Samsung S5. It's been 3 weeks and I hate it, but I'm pretty sure that's because I don't know how to really use this phone. Do you have any website suggestions that would help me understand everything this phone is capable of?
Mmm sorry I wouldn't really know what to suggest. There are some things I love about iOS and some things I love about Android. Both have their pros and cons. To some degree it will just take some time to feel comfortable and enjoy when swapping between them. I recently moved back from android to iOS and I hated it at first.
Check out videos from PhoneDog, PhoneArena, Android Authority, Techno Buffalo etc...
Hope this could help!
+Lana Etherton If you want to fast charge iPhone from PC, install
"Ai charger" and you need no HW modification.
I think apple uses the same mechanism for detecting wall chargers, so it should work.
(and my primary recommendation is naturally not use apple products.)
Hello See Videos on RUclips Samsung Galaxy S5 review or so but I recommend everyone if you used iPhone and you switch or go to Android don't buy Samsung ! Samsung with his TouchWiz and Knox is not good for the one's from coming from iPhone ! Everyone that used Samsung phone will confirm you that the phone will slow down in 4 to 5 months use or earlier that's Samsung ! And you buyed s5 that is a problem phone I had a Samsung S5 plus the voice quality was shit and micro USB port went broke every 3-4 weeks and the battery lost his Battery was discharged very quickly although the phone was new it was swapped but the other new one was like that and I gave it back and buyed oneplus 5 with oxygen os Android system ,double Sim 8gb ram 128 Gb internal memory is the best phone ! Is very fast and I had never the problems that I had with Samsung ! At the moment they released OnePlus 6 see technical documents!
Regards ,
Wow I didn't know this thanks GA for showing this to all viewers.
Kuya, thank you for your service. It must be tiring to do this, esp for a foreigner, almost everyday... I salute you!
Filipina?
😂 now is 2024.. still browsing on "how to" btw..i think, Kuya is a native word from the Philippines, older brother..or anyone that is older than the person.. it's kinda showing respect to anyone! Kuya, huwag po!
Intuitive idea! Really hope it works without risking damage to devices.
Simple and well presented, thanks & GBU
You should do that on the USB plug end because you are using spliced usb cable to power cable, that way you do not mess up with the OTG cable, plus the aluminum might move around and shorted other pins when you push the plug.
Mozz Tzar Yep, I could do that. But I wanted to show people how to do it on a cable that they can move between many different chargers. I'm using aluminium tape which doesn't move once stuck in place and moulds to the shape once you use it once or twice :)
Hello gadget!since I can't comment in your blog clearing operation thank you I always watch your videos.
Too far from camera sir
Dangerous if the tape moves. Not for me, but hey! This is a cool tip if you really do this right. Short the two cables properly and you're done.
this guy is from the future
Please remake this video with closer camera . Major of followers can not see details of procedures or put photos zoomed of what you made over video frame
Thanks bro you really helped me out.
You've got bleed'n good eyes, mate. Smart kit!
i wish this channel grow up
What do you mean?
what i mean is i want you to be recognized by many people like pewdipie because your videos is so perfect and awesome
Which app do you use for getting voltage and milliamps?
Awesome post man. Thank you =]
Excellent..this will work for a PS Vita I think too.
you can use your original charger and put your phone on airplane mode i tried it it works
cool tip. what app are you using to detect and display the current?
Dennis Orcales Ampere
Dennis use AMPERE APP to measure the current and voltage
Use Ampere app available on Google play to measure accurately Current and voltage
It's a wallpaper which shows 400 amp and 1200 amp
l don't know if its just that l'm to high but this was very informative and for some weird reason l wanted to see what 24 awg micro usb wire size looked like was looking for a long micro usb charger dont know the size difference (im dyslexic 😳) and came across this was so good detailedly explained. Subbed! because feel clever and proud of my self for learning something while enjoying good content. stay awesome my friend. -H
very good information Great Idea and I will be trying to do it myself. Thanks!
would this work on electric tape
+Mrsotobean nope. Cos electric tape is not conductive.
Mrsotobean u r really dumb sir
What I found out is that not all cables are the same. Some charge as much as 3x faster rate. 400mah vs 1200mah for instance. So check your cables.
I don't understand what do you mean by short them together?
You're a Genius
Hello, the data cables (green and white) you connect to the power cable (red) to pass electricity to the terminals of the female usb?
Would this work on my drone battery it takes hours using the USB charger . Its a 3100 .11.4 v . Thanks
Awesome vid man! I'm a subscriber! by the way, what was that app you were using?
This is a really bad idea last i checked....
Unless you know the wire can take the current.
Most usb cables are only rated for 500ma, trying to pull more can in the best case melt your usb cable and in the worst case, burn down your house from an overheated cable that shorted out and caused a fire.
This looks like a great way to short out your phone.
This is so clever! Nice one.
Solder and heat shrink...
Sheldon is tht u
Power exchange works over data pins, which is how the phone tels the charger to change modes, and send more than 5v 1..5a. The only thing this accomplishes is removing the phone from thinking it's plugged into a laptop. Of its not a quality cord it will accumulate heat and possibly damage the phone, unsoldering the video card and or frying the circuit board the charging port. Do not attempt this
More MMDa videos more power
the video is not well detailed, cant see the items being explained properly
Might as well just get the proper cable to start with. There should be more manufacturers making quality 3AMP (slightly better than 24AWG) cables as time goes on.
Can you get shocked if a piece of alluminum foil was sticking out?
Is there a chance this might catch fire?
The two middle pins are data lines, they don't carry any power. Aside from that, USB power is only 5v DC which will not shock you. As for a fire risk, there should be none if you follow the directions exactly. If you're not confident, buy a special 'charge cable' instead of modifying your charger :)
interesting. however, now instead of being limited at ~450ma, it is now 927ma max. is suppose that is phone-specific?
wonder how the qualcom quickcharge works.
you should do a close up shot. can't see anything mate
hi, thanks for the video,
i connect my tablet to the usb 3.0 port of a Desktop, but it charge slowly draining .5 amps, my question it can this method fool the tablet thinking it is connected to Ac adapter thus charging faster?
AC adapter how much volt ?
Sheldon is that you
Bazzziiiinnnnggggaaaa!!!!!
don't show screenshots bro.
can I use general charger that include with Samsung intact box & with that general charger+your method to tap the pin.....will it work??
+Gadget Addict
will i have the picture of exactly attachment of the foil i cant see it please. I dont any idea about the middle points. sorry sir please i need tnx for responce
aries rafael I don't have a picture, sorry. If you shine a torch into the USB connector, you'll see 4 contacts (they look like silver/gold lines). It's the middle two you want to be connected together.
Who is watching this while charging you phone
What's the name of the app you used to measure the output???
+jonathan alvarez It's called CurrentWidget . You can find it in the app store :)
+jonathan alvarez you can use Ampere
does fast charging drains the battery faster than normal charging?
+JinRei Nope. It's a feature supported by the manufacturers of the phone, it's not a hack :) You can buy an official cable to do it, but they're more expensive. Charging the battery faster will decrease the overall life of the battery but it's not hugely noticeable. We're talking about after years.
Thank you for this video
I just want to be sure shorting the two data cables isn't permanent, all you have to do is remove the foil n its back normal, right?
That's right :)
OK thx
I have a charger 5.0v 1000ma charger. This method would also cause the charger to perform quicker.
?
And one more ? How did you get your phone to show exactly what about of charge it was receiving
the best is to use a charger that delivers top end 5.5V
Great video really helpful.. 👍
does it really work , i mean does'nt it put the phone in danger of overcharging or exploding or stuff like that.
Yes it works, as demonstrated in the video :) A phone will only draw as much power as it can handle. The charger I used in this demo is capable of pushing out 4amps at 5 volt but the phone is still only drawing its maximum of around 1200ma
thanks c",
Will it hurt the phone or the phone's battery using this method if your phone is not capable of fast charging?
Ron San Gabriel No. Your phone regulates how much power it draws :)
Gadget Addict so if the phone is not capable of fast charging then this method will not work? As you mentioned, the phone is the one who draws the power thus the phone knows how much it can accept. Did i get that right?
Ron San Gabriel If the phone is not capable of fast charging, it will just charge at its highest rate :) So yes, you're correct :)
my phone receives 1900mA but still goes down slowly when I'm using it rather than going up. what's up with that?
what thing can be use as a replacement for that aluminum tape something?
If your fingers are nimble enough, a soldering iron and a bit of solder. If you don't plan to regularly unplug the cable from the charger then a carefully place piece of aluminium foil with some glue. Or cut the wire and rejoin with the data lines shorted. Failing all of that, just go buy a fast charge cable :)
ahhhhh.. okay..
by the way sir, is it possible to charge one phone using another phone? is there any possibility to make a connector to do such thing?
btw, thank you so much for the reply ;)
wewang negapatan Unusual question :P I don't think it would be possible using just a cable but you could design a circuit that would allow you to remove the battery from one phone, boost the voltage and use it to charge a second phone. It wouldn't be very convenient but it could work. It would probably be better to just carry a portable power bank :)
Greate video... thank you so much. Ill subscribe!
So i tried this and i still get 300mha charge current. I am using a 2A output charger and charging an S4. Does the quality of the cable matter?
The quality of the cable can make a difference, if the cable is very long or the wires inside are very thin then it can limit the amount of power the cable can supply to your phone. Also if your phone is very old then it may really not be capable of charging at a higher rate. Although I've not heard of any phones charging as low as that.
There got to be a safer way to get higher charger
what app are u using mate ?
can it damage the phone?
ty it works!
by shorting you mean to cover the 2 middle pins so they don't make contact or to short circuit so somehow it messes up the contacts and don't work anymore? Won't this mess up the charger?
Shorting the middle pins together means the two pins in the middle are making electrical contact. In my case the aluminium foil is put over the two middle pins meaning they are effectively joined together, They're only data pins and don't carry power.
good info...thank's much....
You could be Jorge Lorenzo brother :)
my phone is Samsung j500h..it is otg supported ...if i use this cable that u r made ..so is it harmfull for my phone??
It's not harmful, no.
Ehh i am watching this with 5% phone battery wish me luck
I tried shorting the two middle pins as instructed. Before that, my charge's reading was: reference 100mA; max: 100mA;average:100mAh; After:reference: 466 mAh; max: 400mAh; average: 400mAh. I thought I was going to get something higher. My charger has 2000mA. What is wrong? thanks
Maybe your phone isn't capable of drawing anything above that.
In comparison to the stock cable from samsung, ref:1698; max 1000; ave: 1000. Maybe the cables I used are really poor quality.
Mark Lemuel Yanuaria That is a possibility, some cheap cables are made with the lowest quality and least amount of actual wire.
Wat app do you use for showing the amps
The only app I've found that works is 'CurrentWidget' which you can download from the Play Store - play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.manor.currentwidget
I customized the settings to make the text much bigger than the defaults :)
Wow.. love u man
what application you are using to show the Ampere value while charging?
It works with regular tape or electric tape? Because I can't find the aluminum tape. Thanks.
+LOLLIPOP - Agar.io It needs to be a conductive tape. Regular sticky tape or electrical tape wouldn't work since they work as insulators instead of conductors. The idea is to short the two middle pins together so they make electrical contact with each other.
+Gadget Addict ok so much thank you and i have a last question. This tactic is can be start a fire?
+LOLLIPOP - Agar.io Nope because the data pins don't carry power. It's the two outside pins that carry the power. If you have any doubts, I'd recommend just buying a quick charge cable from amazon :)
+Gadget Addict ok so much thank you :)
Your idea of shortening it with Aluminium Foil Tape strip is not at all good and more over not safe at all. The Foil Tape may slip from its position any moment once the adhesive loosens up so do not show something which is unsafe.
What happens if the stuff you shove into the socket moves after some time, and you're shorting VCC to D-
then your phone will be toast. i intend to do this but I'll be cutting a tiny strip of foil then stick that on a transparent celotap cut to the size of the two pins, then i'll extend the tape and wrap it to the outside. tjis tape will effectively hold the foil over the two pins without ait accidentally moving around
Hi gata! Do you know what cellphone currently in the market has dual sim active? Most dualsim is just switching
why not using power supply that have 5A to charge the phone?
what app are you using to check the charging
What kind of AC adapters charged in USB mode instead of AC mode ?
V. Kansil It's just a regular AC to DC wall wart. 110/220V AC input and 5v DC output. It's pretty common for various devices.
Gadget Addict How about if we use non-factory charger with original cable ? For example : Motorola charger + Samsung original cable (4 wires, non-shorted) + Samsung phone. Should we shorted it as well to get faster charging ?
V. Kansil It shouldn't make a difference what charger or cable you use. The same principle still applies :) They're all pretty much universal, thats the idea behind USB :)
Can i know., the charger input and output??..
The charger in the video is a regular AC power supply which can push out up to 4amp at 5v. But of course no phone will draw that much. Most phones/tablets wont draw more than 2amp.
Hi gave you thumbs up as I am sure it works but I tried this on several Leeds and charging points but no improvement, I even went as far as to solder center pins together an still no joy I have two different generic USB chargers 2.1amps and 2.5 amps and an original Samsung with 950mA where am I going wrong tried with different cables same result, is there an amp measuring app you recommend?
Great idea. So you have an AC adapter wired straight to female USB? I assume 5V DC output?
Scott Krieger Yep that's right :)
Gadget Addict Did you just figure out pos/negative and wire it to the corresponding USB wires?
Scott Krieger Yep. Best to use a voltmeter but you can optionally trust the wire markings (e.g. white line on one wire).
And one more ? How did you get your phone to show exactly what about of charge it was receiving?
+john moore it's an app or widget. You can find more info in the video description :)
