Grateful to be here! It was a blast being on your show and connecting with your amazing audience! Thanks for having me. I had a great time sharing my stories and insights.
I learned about this when I rented an apartment and the landlord was just horrible to me and my roommate. The landlord stole our camera after we noticed the landlord's son kicking and damaging our cars. Then they started to cut our cable lines, cut the water, cut the electricity and then jam our locks so we couldn't leave or come back in. We called the police so many times over months of this going on. Finally the district attorney helped us and we took them to civil court. I learned so much about tenant rights and I can see how people with bad intentions could use this take advantage .
I had to do it pay cash for keys twice, even got strangled, cops are so evil they know who owns the home, it is not that hard to prove ownership, it is the worst criminal behavior.
Yes - lawyers filing False Claims and lying that they’re representing some bank, financial institution that has never even heard of them! Since WHEN are all lawyers totally honest, ethical?? Give any man/woman too much unsupervised power, the temptation to abuse it is very real.
"If bad guys can easily steal your house, it’s just as easy for you to take it back. It's simple-just check your deed change notifications. When you receive an email saying your deed has been changed, all you need to do is follow the same steps the bad guys did: prepare the necessary documents, go to the registry and deeds office, and re-record your ownership deed. Then, file a police report against the person who stole your home. The bad guy might show the police a copy of the deed, but you can show your current deed, proving you're the rightful owner. There's no need to go to court or spend money on lawyers. It’s that straightforward.
@@Retipster The first important step is to take ownership of your property, rather than allowing a scammer to hold it as the owner until the court makes a decision. Even if the property is transferred to your name, you'll still need to provide proof of your previous deed. A fraudulent deed can complicate proving true ownership upon closer examination. If someone buys your house from the scammer, it’s not your problem; it becomes the responsibility of the person who paid the scammer.
I WISH it were that easy! First of all, even tho most States will offer to notify you if/when forged docs are filed, they won’t do ANYTHING to help you. “It’s a civil matter”.
@@user-xc7iq4cm8t Yes, it’s that easy. If you believe your home has been stolen, all you need to do is pay the registration fee at the register and deed office, and your home will be back in your name. Don’t believe me? Try it tomorrow. You could even change your home deed to your son’s name. And you can go to your county's online register and deed search portal to monitor every day if your deed is still in your name. And when preparing the documents, make sure the information matches your original home title exactly. After that, everything will return to the way it was before. And anyone who bought the house from the scammer might try to sue you. However, the problem is they have to prove who sold the house to them, who the realtor was, and who the title lawyer was. They won’t be able to, so they can’t sue you. The only problem is that your filing is the same as what the bad guys did. So, technically, you're stealing your own home. LOL
spoke with a guy in MO who had an old mobile on land he was renting. tenants quit paying, he informed the sheriff his plans, waited till they were out for day, emptied their contents on the lawn, proceeded to set fire to it, problem solved.
What this landlord did is a legal minefield. Tossing out tenants' stuff and burning down the mobile home is asking for serious legal trouble. We're talking lawsuits for illegal eviction, destruction of property, and maybe even arson charges. Telling the sheriff doesn't make it legit. This guy took a simple non-payment issue and turned it into a potential criminal and civil liability nightmare. He'd be better off following proper eviction procedures, even if it seems like a hassle.
Squatting is wrong, yes.. So is rent gauging. So is mortgage discrimination, so is creating an environment where people have no other options. Government failed the people. Transfer of wealth isn't over yet but. If you think squatters are bad, wait another 5years when the top 10% own everything.
In Iowa, that would get serious prison time. Damaging the property is highly illegal while the tenants are still living on the property. I looked it up after seeing squatting in the news so much. I was stunned; squatters have more rights than the owners.
@@Retipster- when the very ppl suppose to serve and protect us, are in on it?? ANYONE filing docs into our Land Records, including lawyers, shd have to PROVE they’re actually representing who they claim to be.
I think there were laws passed here in Florida lately that makes this a crime. People can do jail time for fake lease's and this type of fraud. They don't get to just walk away. I've had a tenant that wouldn't leave and instead of taking them to court I paid them off, just to get them out. it was cheaper faster and less of a headache than an eviction.
Exactly!! It’s NOT difficult to have deed “transfers” signed and filed - esp by law firms. Spend some time researching your land records - specifically, looking at WHO owns a multitude of properties. There’s numerous public records of known “robosigners” who have admitted they had no right/authority to sign documents. Most courts are IGNORING this!
I am very much interested in this topic. Since stealing a house is a civil matter, if you 'steal' your own home, there’s no one to sue you. Therefore, you would get your home back without having to go to court or hire a lawyer. I believe every homeowner should prepare documents with a notarized fake signature. Then, if their home is stolen, they can go to the registry and deed office to re-register as the new owner. After that, who can sue you for stealing your own home? It's a civil matter, after all.
Owners can contact the utility companies and give them a security code in order to activate the utilities- you can also contact the police in advance and let them know you have a vacant property and that it will be empty for a period of time and that there is a squatter in the area- and that you would like to leave your contact info on file letting them know that you own a property that’s in a high squatter area and if ever you have to call the cops here is a code number that a squatter must give to prove they are a legal renter- however also letting them know you are not renting out the property at this time- if you can’t accomplish this also video yourself standing in front of the property stating the date and time only and that you are the owner holding up your deed semi and that if for any reason a squatter tries to ever evade your property you are the owner and have contacted the police in advance regarding if the problem comes up please ask the squatter what the code is in order to validate its legitimacy it’s so scary that owners investors have to go through this security camera to alert you where you can see what’s going on no matter where you are
Last year I bought a property from someone who claimed to own it and got title insurance on the house. The fake seller went to the title company office to sign the paperwork, but they got an id from the government office the same day as closing, impersonating the true seller. I then sold the home to another buyer but they only caught onto the situation a few months later after the true owner saw the dumpster out front and some repairs had been done
If your ordinance doesn't allow rentals, or lease then the owner can't be a landlord and the squatters are not tenants. You can't evict them, you have to eject them. If you can't be a landlord, turn the electric off, lock the meter. Turn the water off. If they leave for 1 night, lock them out. The squatters have to file a repleven just to get their belongings
There was a pastor in seattle, wa that had a lot of kids. Rented a house and from hear say .. they didn’t pay rent over 10 years and i dont know if they ever left .. or eventually got evicted.
wouldn't a Title Fraud need to have a legit Lawyer endorcemeht attached to this? What actual lawyer is going to stand up and lie for a fraudster? Does anybody know how this works?
In most states, a lawyer is not needed to draft a deed. If you know how they're written (and it's not difficult to do), you can make a fraudulent one and get it recorded. It's a very insecure system with not nearly enough checks and balances.
Well being a home owner myself, if this happens to me, why should I be on the hook for their frivolous system? It works for 99.9% of the people and the rest are on their own? NO Somebody other than the homeowner needs to be accountable for this...they know it's a problem they have the means to fix it somehow, someway?
I wish I didn’t know. The truth is shocking and title ins from years ago claim they only covered homeowners for 30 days for any title defects. This isn’t about squatters but title or deed theft which we all need to be educated on.
Whatever happened to the Laws, which governed Trespassors. How did this become legal? What are our taxes paying for... The police have to be retrained in how to discern squatters who may or may not belong in your house/s. The from the police should be, "Do you have any information which verifies the landlord's information or receipts for rent to verify your occupancy?"
Does it make any difference or more difficult to steal if the property is paid off? Or what about if it’s paid off and in a trust? This is wild and pretty scary.
Yeah, fair point. It was backwards... although, when I eventually called the ACTUAL Verizon, they also had American accents. You can never tell these days.
I think that's the idea behind security cameras that capture evidence of a squatter forcing entry. If you can prove they broke in, that would (hopefully) be enough for the police to kick them out.
All land is ABANDONED if U never laid claim to it. If you recorded a deed, you don’t own it you just paying for it anything in the public record is up for grabs. That’s why its a public record! Duh! No law can change! that PeriodT.
How does stealing speak to anyone. Section 8 has Fed funding not going to homeless, is what I'm seeing tho. This seems like indirect theft, from what I'm getting without all the books about it. What is this granting for mission statements that do or don't actually happen
The squatters already know. Ordinary people usually get blindsided because they have no idea this can happen. I looked it up in Iowa where I live. Even in Iowa, squatters have more rights than the owner.
Not sure, you want to make a video admitting to false pretenses and then broadcast it cause it becomes wire fraud at that point. But good luck with your research project.

GA passed a new law in April 2024 to make squatting criminal and a non-jury trial within 7 days
Sounds like they've got the right idea.

That's why you pay for title insurance when you do your mortgage paperwork.
If someone squats on my land , they’re getting buried on it

Interesting approach. I wonder if this would still create a cloud on the title with a fraudulent deed in the title chain?

Why can’t the Recorder’s office permit the owner to Require 2Factor authentication to a cell phone and email on file?
Interesting idea. You'd have to get the cell phone or email on file first... but once that's done, maybe this could work?
