It also means Malaysia needs to synchronize its workers' salaries to be globally competitive and not rely on low wages for its skilled workforce to attract foreign capital.

If Malaysia pay high salary comparable to global standard, why should companies set up their business in Malaysia? They can simply manufacture goods in their own country

Useable income or high degree of disposable income is what we want. Those at B40 live from hand to mouth, from paycheck to paycheck. They work 2 or more jobs to buy food that increased in price faster than their savings or salaries.
That's a strain on any household and not generally felt. ...knowing that M'sia has managed to educate it's young people that >80% now have a basic diploma or degree.
It means the employers know the situation but choose to keep the size of their profits and not investing enough in human capital and improving productivity.
      Now that is a shame.
We can't equate Malaysia with Myanmar or Laos or Timor Leste friends

most of the big project was led and planned by tun M itself even he retired as the 4th malaysia PM, but the project still goes on at that time.
i think now malaysia will do well under anwar government as the economy is growing back. but it takes time.

... No country in the world has enough expertise local .. In today's globalization world, what a country needs is the right environment for skilled workers. There are millions of skills workers around the world you can attract as long as the country provides the right environment... The famous silicon valley full of skilled Asian and Eastern Europe workers... China who now leads world technology also employs thousands of Skills workers from Europe and the US... even snatching IT workers from Taiwan...
So what does Malaysia need to do, training their local to close the gao and creating an environment that can attract skilled workers from around the world....

Whether it with low wages or lot of times involved but with glory of advance economy at the end. They also don't mention our looking at austerity measures around public spending. As always, we look good on paper but I think we have a long way to go to transform the potential into reality. If Malaysia followed the Philippines or Myanmar's footsteps [ income inequality, poverty, homelessness...etc, it could have suffered a long time ago. So far, it's on the right track. The rich can't survive in a divided society and I believe the government understands that, hence the improvement in infrastructure, education..etc.

The speaker elaborated "rather too much" on Vision 2020 - which to official views, 'failed' to reach its objectives & has been replaced by a new one called the MADANI Economy Framework and the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030
The Madani framework largely sets out the values and high-level targets for Malaysia to achieve its goal of becoming a leading Asian nation known for humane economic development or growth that upholds the values of humanity and social justice, while the NIMP is a commitment to bolster the nation's manufacturing sector, with ambitious microeconomic targets.
