Installation is successful (thanks!), but like so many others, the performance of the updated tablet is really poor.
I understand you have a stock answer: That the RAM usage is very low and I should uninstall or disable unused apps. I have done this with a clean, "almost empty" installation, and with just the bare minimum services running, about 680MB of a total 890MB is consumed -- over 75%.
I don't know if this is 'normal', but it isn't obvious to me what else I can disable to get decent performance!
At the moment, I can use it as a dedicated Kindle reader (waiting an ice age for it to load up a book), and basically nothing else.

I finished the installation of the new version of Android 7.1.2.
It works slower, OF COURSE, but what do you expect from a multi-year old tablet. At least now you have options to add some new apps from Store-Play.
try the "Developer Options" settings on the XDA forum ... search for:

Downloaded the p5100 and copied the required files to my tab 10.1 and did the home and lower volume push down but seems not to be showing the android logo
Sir press and hold volume down, home button, and power button
My tablet is galaxy 10.1 and it has just power button, down and up volume. I have tried but instead, the tab just comes back on

One back off wifi then go to menu check
I restarted the device when it was stuck on the updates and then it worked 👍

Hello sir! How can I put the Recovery mode I have a Tab 2 10.1 but it doesn't work with the same Vol up and power Button
sir in odin software off auto reboot after flash. now flash complete display showing download now press and hold volume down + power. now tab is power off then immediately press and hold power + volume up. now samsung logo come immediately release power button only after some time screen is black now release volume up then wait until recovery is coming see video correctly then try step by step one step missed then not succeed all the best😊👍

I just bought galaxy tab A for $235 but I didn't realize I got the old version for 2014 with 5.1.1 didn't say on the details what year I bought, so I bought it from wal mart, trying to download some game doesn't support that version so I can still get 7.1.1 version from downloaded from the file

Got as far as running the first stage of Odin. Restarted the tablet whilst holding the volume key and i'm presented with an android logo saying "No command" and a boot menu, instead of the Unmodified system partition screen. Any advice please?
Sir in odin unchecked reboot after flash then flash, after flash press hold volume up and home and power button, now device restart Samsung logo coming immediately release only power button, after few seconds display comes black now release all button wait for recovery mode please see tutorial once try step by step its possible

After I made the post, I figured out that the tablet you used in the video has TWRP installed. My tablet does not, so I get the android recovery screen. Will this make a difference?

Android system recovery (3e)
Volume up/down to move highlight:
power button to select
- reboot system now
- apply update from ADB
- apply update from external storage
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
- apply update from cache
So I can't finish your procedure.
