From how I've seen the SMW goal work in this, I'd wager there's a hitbox for the goal and for the tape. The moment you hit the goal hitbox it ends, and if at that moment you're also touching the tape's hitbox then you get a 1-up or coins/score. The range for 1-ups seems not too picky, but the tape's hitbox is only at the top of the goal for a few frames, meaning if you came from the side you'd get a 1-up, but not if you came from the top.
6:30 once he knew he is screwed at least he should have collected some coins. it's funny how smm players still don't see how coins and therefore lives are on a much higher value in smm2. also, once there are three lives already collected, the coin count should be around 90sh or so.
Last video, the first comment I read was something along the lines of: " watch him lose all his lives on a 10 seconds speedrun next episode". This was not a bad prediction.

You would do so much better if you weren't allergic to coins. Like at 6:05 when there are coins everywhere but you just hit "start over" without collecting them. You only got 2 lives out of that level but with all those coins there was NO reason you shouldn't have gotten 3. And this happens a lot.
To get a 1 up at the end of Mario World courses you have to cross the white bar at the top. The point value is based on where the white bar is when you cross it. If you don't cross the white bar then it doesn't count.
The fact that you don't always get 1-ups for tape endings is probably because the game doesn't register you as cutting the tape. You're in the zone where it auto cuts the tape, and you're not directly on the tape because you're above the highest point the tape could be cut from. It's probably a bug that could be solved by checking if the tape is above a certain y-value and if Mario is above the tape's max y-value and Mario is in the tape-cutting zone.
