You're an incredibly talented teacher and I'm so happy I found your channel. Its an absolute crime you only have 60k subs. But quality content invariably brings people in. Keep doing what you're doing, you have been a huge help to so many people.
Excellent tips and thank you for not using the song Let It Be in your tutorial, a song I've come to hate since every online piano teacher tends to gravitate to it in explaining techniques and giving tips : )
Loving your chord based approach and the tips on singing. Songs sound so much better when sung, the words add another dimension. Everyone has a voice, let it be heard. It may not be the power fullest voice, but the joy in sharing songs with others is so uplifting. Anyone considering Nate's piano course, I can fully recommend it. It's so well thought out and you can immediately notice the progress your making.
Wonderful tips. I admit the best thing to happen in my piano journey has been finding your channel. Your teaching method is easily understood and geared toward all skill kevels. BTW, Thanks for all the wonderful Beatles piano tutorials
Thank you for these wonderful tips, Nate! I can relate to tip #3 as I found myself automatically humming a song I'm trying to learn so I can get the changes on the chords down. Memorizing the words to the song will come with time. (I don't even remember the lyrics right now 🤔!) And I love the song, Simple Man! My hubby laughs every time I say, "I'm gonna learn how to play that one too!" My list of songs to learn is growing bigger every day! Love it! Thank you! 😄 ~Joelle
Great tips, thank you. I have found that “mumbling” the general melody of the lyrics without attempting to sing them properly allowed me to progress quicker than trying to sing properly, so I’m happy to hear you recommend that yourself and I’m not just being weird 😁 thanks Nate
Long time follower of your channel here - and student of both of your very well done courses. These are good tips. One more that I would share as well that has helped me is for songs that I'm less familiar with - just listening to the original track (or the end of your videos where you do the playthrough) several times in a row also helps imprint the lyrics into my brain and speeds up the process of syncing the singing with playing. Thanks for all your videos!
That is such a good point and now I wish I mentioned it in the video! Really knowing a song by heart is a huge help...in terms of listening to it a lot and also singing along with a recording. Also, thanks for the kind words, I'm so glad you're enjoying the courses!
Really great and necessary video, thanks Nate. One bit of feedback - Maybe I'm the only one who really doesn't like these bits of stock footage sprinkled throughout the videos, but... I know lots of folk seem to do it now, but IMHO if you have something valuable to say then just say it, and edit accordingly. Please be happy to "you do you". :)
I appreciate the feedback! I'm on the fence about it as well. I've been trying to make these general lesson videos more engaging for new viewers. I'd be very curious what others think as well!
Oh, humming helped so much! Sometimes I am trying to think what words are next ( even with your sheet music) and I lose my place when playing n trying to sing n making sure I am hitting the right keys (new to piano playing) AGH…. Can all be overwhelming but humming seemed to help. So this was very very helpful! Thanks Nate!
Nate. This is so true and helpful. It all rings so true. Your analogy of riding a bike could not be better. It looks so easy, and of course is to all of us who learnt when a child and have continued adding to all that muscle memory over a lifetime. To the casual onlooker, singing and playing looks a piece of cake, but this ‘ease of doing so’ has only been arrived at after hours of ground work and practice. All your thoughts and tips in this video are so helpful. Your clarity of thought and ability to break down problems into little chunks is so helpful and inspiring. Thank you
I like to break the song down into mastering blocks ; intro, verse , chorus, etc, humming along and isolating the hard parts to get them fluid. Also I watch your Play-through over n over to get the feel right. And play the song regularily so I don't forget,....that's another issue.
Hey, Nate! I was wondering if you could demonstrate the new Billy Joel song “Turn the Lights Back On.” I can’t figure out that piano solo for the life of me! 😂

I'm so glad this resonated with you!
Thanks for the tips. I hadn't thought about humming first, will have to give that a try.
Hey Nate. I have a request can you do a tutorial on maxwells silver hammers by The Beatles?
I like to break the song down into mastering blocks ; intro, verse , chorus, etc, humming along and isolating the hard parts to get them fluid. Also I watch your Play-through over n over to get the feel right. And play the song regularily so I don't forget,....that's another issue.
Totally!
great tips as always.. thank you! if you don’t mind, i’d like to request “you don’t know my name” by alicia keys piano and singing tutorial. thanks🙏🏻
Could I request REM - At my most beautiful. Such a beautiful piano song
Hey, Nate! I was wondering if you could demonstrate the new Billy Joel song “Turn the Lights Back On.” I can’t figure out that piano solo for the life of me! 😂
That would be awesome
Awesome tips, Nate. Thanks so much!
My pleasure!
Awesome brother 💗
Thanks ✌️
Always love your videos Nate!!!
I appreciate that!
Hi Nate. Great tips, thanks. Can you maybe do a tutorial on Something by George Harrison?!
Oh man. Yea...it's a daunting project but I will definitely do it
Can you do a tutorial on the never ending story 🙏🏼
can you make a tutorial on how to play "Thats Life" by Frank Sinatra?
How often should i practice memorized songs in order to keep my "chops"? Can i just do a condensed version of the song?
Once you master a song, as long as you play through it every week or so (at least) you should be able to hold onto it!
Awesome thanks! I can't read notes so I just have to commit them to memory.
Sing?…😂😂😂me??…😂😂😂good one Nate think I’ll just stick with the piano for now
Wow just 2 hours old usually 2 years old
heaven knows i’m miserable now
