Excellent tips and thank you for not using the song Let It Be in your tutorial, a song I've come to hate since every online piano teacher tends to gravitate to it in explaining techniques and giving tips : )

Long time follower of your channel here - and student of both of your very well done courses. These are good tips. One more that I would share as well that has helped me is for songs that I'm less familiar with - just listening to the original track (or the end of your videos where you do the playthrough) several times in a row also helps imprint the lyrics into my brain and speeds up the process of syncing the singing with playing. Thanks for all your videos!

That is such a good point and now I wish I mentioned it in the video! Really knowing a song by heart is a huge help...in terms of listening to it a lot and also singing along with a recording. Also, thanks for the kind words, I'm so glad you're enjoying the courses!

Great tips, thank you. I have found that “mumbling” the general melody of the lyrics without attempting to sing them properly allowed me to progress quicker than trying to sing properly, so I’m happy to hear you recommend that yourself and I’m not just being weird 😁 thanks Nate

I like to break the song down into mastering blocks ; intro, verse , chorus, etc, humming along and isolating the hard parts to get them fluid. Also I watch your Play-through over n over to get the feel right. And play the song regularily so I don't forget,....that's another issue.

Nate. This is so true and helpful. It all rings so true. Your analogy of riding a bike could not be better. It looks so easy, and of course is to all of us who learnt when a child and have continued adding to all that muscle memory over a lifetime. To the casual onlooker, singing and playing looks a piece of cake, but this ‘ease of doing so’ has only been arrived at after hours of ground work and practice. All your thoughts and tips in this video are so helpful. Your clarity of thought and ability to break down problems into little chunks is so helpful and inspiring. Thank you

Really great and necessary video, thanks Nate. One bit of feedback - Maybe I'm the only one who really doesn't like these bits of stock footage sprinkled throughout the videos, but... I know lots of folk seem to do it now, but IMHO if you have something valuable to say then just say it, and edit accordingly. Please be happy to "you do you". :)

I appreciate the feedback! I'm on the fence about it as well. I've been trying to make these general lesson videos more engaging for new viewers. I'd be very curious what others think as well!
