This gives me teary eyes. I used to worked here back in the 90's when I was in HS at the cinema checking tickets. I've even met my wife here when she was working at Hecht's and I used to bring my daughter here specially on Holidays. Fun times! Now they about to demolish this mall.

The holiday setup was stunning. I went to this mall this year often. I would go on the Ride On bus to get there alone sometimes and I was just in 9th/10th grade. Babbages was the spot then they had a Funcoland across the street I think. Jerry's Pizza was always hitting.

I saw this mall on some abandoned mall series. Sad that it went from this to being abandoned. In Christmas 1994 I was 16 years old in 11th grade. Malls were still bustling at this time.
Around 1995 I was chasing my sister on the frog pad and hit my head hard on the brown wall where parents sat. I remember crying in pain and people standing over me. someone using my sisters jacket to clean up the blood. My step dad bolted in a store to phone 911 they thought he was robbing it
Nope, its essentially a ghost town now and we’ve seen countless times that it takes more than a tad bit of nostalgia to restore a business. If people wanted to preserve it, they wouldn’t have stopped shopping there.
I was the construction manager on both...this is Lakeforest in Gaithersburg. Over the last 50 years most of the projects our team put our hearts and souls into are now at the end ot their lives or already gone. Life goes on!

The Funcoland! I completely forgot about that
I did same as well when i was a kid take the ride on bus there.For buying a game from babbages or kaybee toy store.

I am from Malaysia and had been to the Lakeforest Mall a few times in 1984 and 1985 during two work related visits to Gaithersburg, MD.
It's a nice mall, I love Christmas shopping at the mall. It's very sad all the malls are closing. 💔😞

Even as late as much of the 2010's it was still bustlin'. The bottom didn't fall out until 2019 or so.

Are the citizens rallying to restore Lakeforest Mall to its former glory?
Nope, its essentially a ghost town now and we’ve seen countless times that it takes more than a tad bit of nostalgia to restore a business. If people wanted to preserve it, they wouldn’t have stopped shopping there.
Developers are going to make a ton of money turning the site into mixed residential/retail.
