Master Welding Techniques for Jewellery Making | Quick & Easy Prong Tacking Tutorial!

This is one you might want to save if you’re interested in getting to grips with welding! One of the most used tools in my studio has to be my Sunstone Orion 150 welder. I mainly use mine for tacking before soldering, and closing jump rings.
In this video I’m using it to tack prongs in place, and yes you saw me wiggle them in the video to get them perfectly aligned after welding. That’s the great thing about a tack weld, it holds things in place, but they’re not permanently fixed and these little tiny adjustments can be made before soldering.
If you’ve tried soldering on prongs before, you’ll know it takes a while to get things set up ready to solder. From starting tacking to soldering, this took less than 5 minutes.

I recently got an Mpulse. I find it really hard to hold the pieces together and tack them. The best I’ve done so far is tack some jump rings. When it comes to more complex shapes my hands seem to be in the way.

I have a m pulse. Not as powerful as the 150. But I have been able to tack things to solder. I close jump rings and make loops on wires too. I do wish it would make bigger balls on the end of wire because they are so nice but not big enough.
