    Tim Walz!!! Hes a real democrat who is bold and unapologetic for fighting for the working class. He is absolutely killing it as far as messaging and we really need that. He's like Bernie's bold, but smiley, cheerful cousin. NO Kelly- not a great debater. Another bad devate would devestate the campaign. The Dems need someone with his background and experience who has a record of appealing to folks in rural areas and in red districts. • @davidwave4
    @davidwave4 Месяц назад +42

    The difference between Walz' margin and Shapiro's is that Biden carried Minnesota by a wider margin than he did PA, so Shapiro's "overperformance" is relative to Biden's 1.2pt win, vs. his 7.5pt win in Minnesota. Walz overperforming Biden means he won by 8 points in an off-cycle election, which is still pretty impressive. Shapiro winning against a nothing candidate in a year where there was a major Senate race on the ballot too looks a bit less impressive.

The South was opposed to ratification because such a large proportion of their population were slaves. The census, which was to occur every ten years, would determine how many representatives each state would have in the House of Representatives based on that State's population. Which would kill the South because 1/3 of their populations were slaves. So, they came up with a compromise. Slaves would be counted as 3/5th of a citizen for the purposes of representation. Which gave them parity in the House. Then each State would be granted a proportional amount of electors in the Electoral College for Presidential elections, based on the census. It was a bargaining tool to get the southern states to ratify the Constitution, nothing more. It's a throwback to the times of chattel slavery. Democracy literally translates to “majority rule” in Greek. I’m not a proponent of letting any party have complete and total power with virtually little to zero ability to prevent the minority party from having a voice. There’s a reason pure democracies haven’t lasted nor been proven to have longevity in the grander scheme of history.
      In an easier sense, you could argue “We Dems have complete control now since we hold the House, Senate and WH! We can pass whatever we want whenever we want and radically transform the landscape of this country to suit a Democratic agenda!”
      But would we truly want the same abilities to exist if the shoe were on the other foot? No, because the GOP would turn us into a Christian Fascist Theocracy in heartbeat.
      Systematic checks and balances are frustrating, but I’d argue it’s the same reason the Constitution has been such a damned durable document for almost 250 years.

      I really, REALLY like Shapiro. He's right of Harris, which I think is a good thing (don't hang me younger libs, but seriously, it's not abnormal for a prez to shift to the center to appeal to more people). I know his stance on Gaza might upset some, but I have a hard time seeing them getting so angry that they would take Trump dealing with Gaza over Harris just beacuse she went with Shapiro. Axelrod seemed to think it was a negligible issue. However, I do think you're right in the double-lawyer on the ticket. That doesn't broaden appeal. Shapiro has a 60%+ approval rating in Pennsylvania. I think he will deliver it for her, regardless.

I believe you're looking at a landslide instead of squeaking by in Pennsylvania with Josh Shapiro.

    Pete Buttigieg is the closest thing to a superhero the Democratic Party has! Of the remaining candidates, he's definitely Harris' wisest pick for VP. By far the best communicator, he refuses to be bullied by today's ill-willed Republicans -- without ever needing to raise his voice or resort to exaggeration. Buttigieg actually thrives in debates and interviews, and he always comes prepared with verified facts and figures, simple analogies, and quick responses -- even when he's being grilled by Congress or far-right news hosts. His ability to convey a message with fewer words and in less time is extraordinary, and it's pure joy to watch him not only win his opponents over, but put THEM on defense! After a solid education at Harvard (degrees in History and Literature) and as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford (Politics, Economics, and Philosophy), worked as a highly paid management consultant at McKinsey & Co. and could be earning much more money than he does. But his devotion to our country led him to public service where he knew he could make a greater difference. And what a patriot! He served in our military as a Naval intelligence officer. His military experience and deep understanding of US and world history, economics, and politics uniquely position him to support Harris in international affairs. Buttigieg entered politics as a transformational mayor of South Bend, Indiana, completely changing the trajectory of a crumbling city by investing in poorer neighborhoods and infrastructure, increasing its employment rate, and much more. His educational record and his accomplishments in the corporate world, as an intelligence officer in the Navy, as a transformative mayor, as a father, and within the Biden-Harris administration make him a more qualified VP than a person decades older. He will further fire up the voters and be her best weapon in the campaign. A Harris--Buttigieg ticket will be unbeatable and give Democrats the landslide victory they need to send Trump packing!
