I really loved your personal comments on the pros n cons of quilt kits. It really helped how you broke down all the components needed for a quilt n how the cost compared to buying all the components i.e. bundles, backing, pattern individually.
@rebeccalallier9907, Thank you so much for you kind comment. My real life friends call me an old soul LOL!! I think that their way of saying in old like.
Thank you for this informative video. I've never bought a quilt kit and now have a better understanding of all the variables one would consider. Your project bag is fabulous!
Since I like to over cut and trim down just about everything, I’ve always been concerned about running short on fabric. But i see that’s probably not a problem after all. Thanks for sharing this. The project bag is fabulous!
This video is very helpful! I’ve always wondered about whether the amount of fabrics supplied in kits was enough for starching and for the project itself. Thank you for doing this. 💕
Beautiful project bag. Erica is full of great inspiration. TFS. I dont understand why companies offer quilt kits and do not include the pattern. I will not buy a kit if the pattern is not included. I'll buy the pattern alone if I absolutely love it.
Would you consider making a pattern of your own of the project bag you modified from Erica’s pattern? I really like all the sections you made and the size of it. I would definitely buy your pattern.
Great video! Quilt kits are great! It is really nice for quilts with a lot of small fabric requirements because they can package what you need and you don’t have to buy a store’s minimum. Also you don’t have to buy from multiple vendors to find everything. I learned the hard way that if there is a lot of fussy cutting involved, make sure you cut your fabric out while it is still readily available….just in case you make a mistake! 😂
Nice video! I have also purchased kits and found the same thing as you shared, consistently regardless of the brand and I love being able to jump right in and not have to choose my fabric. I've bought from a magazine a Jinnie Beyer (sp?) kit and changed a few features and fabric with great results. I think it was my first or second kit. I also bought from a local shop while attending a SEW Expo held in Puyallup, WA. Tge kits there were all on sale, which is my favorite way to buy a kit. I love being able to give my money to quilt shops. After all, they are teaching me about colors, cutting, and so much more. So when I buy a kit, II also think of the tips and tricks one might learn from. Thank you again for a terrific video. I look forward to more! Take care. ❤
@lorimedley2074, I had to look where Puyallup, WA is located Lol. It looks like a very pretty town. One of my midterm goal is to travel and visit quilt shop in each of those places. first will quilt town USA!!!
Quilting is an expensive hobby. I enjoy quilting and so decide to spend the money. I very seldom buy a kit though. Enjoyed your discussion of pros and cons of different manufacturers. I do believe the pattern should be included with kit.
The pattern is included in 99% of kits with the exception of Books that for instructions. For example, the Tula Pink butterfly quilt kit didn't come with the pattern. FQS does not includes the pattern in their kits for the sew sampler sew along, those patterns comes in the monthly boxes.
Thanks for the great info Kate! I followed a link from Brenda at Conquering Mt. Scrapmore and am so glad I did. I just subscribed and look forward to seeing more of your videos.
Good Evening Kate, Thank you for discussing your experience on buying a quilt kit vs buying all the fabrics, pattern, background etc. yourself. I have wondered and you answered any questions I might have had and more, so helpful. 🥰👍 I’ve bought a few kits that I haven’t made yet and I feel more comfortable with my purchase now. This is the first time I’ve written to you but I have been a subscriber for several months and you have made wonderful videos with thorough instructions, very easy to follow each block and I am so happy to have found you! 🥰👏 I plan to go back through several of your videos when I have time to make a few of the quilts you have already have completed. They are Spectacular❣️❣️❣️🥰👏 Thank you so much, 🥰 Chris
@chrislittebrant5235, Thank you so much for commenting. These were the type of question I had prior to buying quilt kit as well. I thought I would talk about it since there were clouded answers about this topic. I am so glad I was able to assist in answering your questions. Thank you so much for watching.
Thanks for such an informative video. I just recently purchased my second quilt kit from fat quarter shop. The first one I bought a couple of years ago was short on fabric. I made one cutting error and I had to buy additional fabric. They only gave enough to make the quilt exactly. So I was turned off and did not want to buy any more kids. It was a specific shop quilt kit. Now I feel more comfortable purchasing quilt kits.
I am sorry that you had less than positive experience in the past. I wanted to give my honest opinion on what my experience has been. Hope my explanation has helped.
Thank you for doing this video I've always wondered if it's worth it. It seems convenience is a plus. Block of the month kits seems to cost much more than if you bought yardage yourself. I ran across one and was interested until I saw the price of $525 for a double size quilt and backing was not included.
I think I’ve only bought two kits before and only one of them I’ve made they were both for fundraisers. Thank you for all the information. I have to tell you your project bag that’s a showstopper. It’s beautiful and very functional.
@katherineanderson8570, The original pattern Idea was from Erica Arndt here on RUclips. She did a tutorial for a craft to go case. I mimic the pattern and tweak it a little (or a lot LOL), I made my bigger to fit my need wig more pockets. Her measurement is completely different from mine. Please watch her video to get better better idea if you you like to make it. Thanks you so much for watching.
The bag was inspired by Erica @confessions the homeschooler here on you Tube. T watched her tutorial and made the bag a little different to fit my need

Wow, your Project bag is amazing!
You and your bag are beautiful! Good job!
Great video!! I'll definitely start looking at kits more often.

You have really surprised me! I always thought you had to be so careful cutting kit fabrics believing they barely gave you what you need. Great video!
Thank you for this great video!!!

Thank you so very much for this video ! I have been in the fence about the kits but now I can make a more informed decision.

I plan on buying the EZ8 to draw out all the patten I want to write. Right now I am just drawing it on graph paper old school style. LOL
A paper pattern is fine. When will you have the craft bag pattern available to purchase?
Cute project bags
Good information. I just joined a quilt along, and I was leary of spending the monthly amount. But, now, I am really looking forward to it.
Hi Kate, I LOVE the project bag! Could you do a video or offer a pattern on how to make it? Keep up the great work!
Love your project bag!
I think kits are great values and it’s fun to open one and just get started on the project.
I like it because it includes everything I need to get started!!

Just found your channel. I am also a nurse, I love making baby quilts for my coworkers.
@rw3365, welcome!! Sewing is like my second calling after nursing. Thank you for watching!!
Thank you, very helpful info.
Really enjoyed the video and the information. Would you do a video on how you made the project bag? Thanks 😊
That’s in the works

I started buying kits in 2020, during the time when shops were closed. I think they are worth the price.
I agree

Thank you. The project bag was Morphed from Erica confession of the home schooler here on You Tube.
@@katescraftingnest thank you
I’ve purchased so many jelly rolls and layer cakes. But I think I should buy fat quarter bundles for more fabric
Fat quarters bundles cost more, but you get more use out of them. Whereas layer cake and Jelly rolls are for more specific use/purpose.
Thank you
Hi. Enjoyed the content. New subscriber.
Is the project bag your pattern? It is great!

What is the sew tight? Beautiful bag. How long did it take to make your bag. Looks like a lot of work. Lol beautiful
Sew tight is a super strong magnet that hold holds your fabric in place while you are hand sewing. This bag was a weekend project
Thank u Kate. 🥰
Love the bag great job❤️
Do you have a pattern for your bag 🫶🏻
