Please can’t you write “the soldiers canned the blacksmiths and the carpenters”?

It is not wrong. However, if you follow the rules of summary writing that makes emphasis on substitution or writing answers in your own words, some marks can be deducted. The goal is to compress large information in to small. The blacksmiths and carpenters were at work and so they are workers. Replace the three words with just one word.
